Transport workers were among the most affected by the COVID-19 crisis. In several countries, public transport and delivery drivers were considered essential workers during the pandemic, while the demand changed dramatically. In this context, little is known about the actual effects of the pandemic on the lives of drivers, and whether those effects depend on the type and formality of the corresponding job. In this paper, we analyse the impact of the pandemic on the daily jobs of public transport, ride-hailing, and delivery app drivers: we study changes on working time and income, pandemic-relat

Therefore, this study aimed to assess the level of job satisfaction and its associated factors among midwives working at public health institutions in northwest Ethiopia.
METHODS: An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from Feb

Introduction: Living donation increases the organ supply, but associated non-medical expenses can disincentivize donation. Programs aimed at increasing living donation need to better understand how financial obstacles, including lost wages, impact the decision to pursue donation. Methods/Approach: Forty-eight interviews were conducted and analyzed using a grounded theory approach. Findings: Three key themes were identified that influenced decision-making: emotional attachment, temporal flexibility, and job security. These themes emerged when dividing interview participants into 3 groups: close

BACKGROUND: Voluntary resignation among nurses poses a growing challenge for healthcare organisations, with implications for workforce stability and quality of care. While intention to leave has been widely examined, little is known about the experiences of nurses who have already enacted their decision to resign, particularly across different life stages.
AIM: To explore the reasons underlying voluntary resignation among nurses and examine how these reasons vary across generational cohorts, with the goal of informing life-stage-sensitive workforce retention strategies.
METHODS: A qualitativ

There are high levels of work disability, absenteeism (sick leave) and presenteeism (reduced productivity) amongst people with inflammatory arthritis. WORKWELL is a multi-centre, randomised controlled trial of job retention vocational rehabilitation for employed people with inflammatory arthritis. The trial tested the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the WORKWELL programme compared to the receipt of written self-help information only. Both arms continued to receive usual care. This article presents synthesized evidence from 16 studies examining initiatives with potential to mitigate workers' exposure to precarious employment through the adoption of minimum wage policies. All studies were set in low-income countries and focused on both formal and informal workers. A systematic review of evaluated initiatives addressing precarious employment identified the evidence. We consider minimum wage policies as initiatives that could address precarious employment because of the central role of minimum wages in establishing employment terms for workers in precarious situations.

In the post-pandemic era, healthcare workers face moral dilemmas balancing individual rights with public health concerns. Taiwan's COVID-19 measures, while effective, have raised privacy concerns, highlighting these challenges. An observational survey of 169 healthcare workers evaluated moral judgment across Non-Moral, Impersonal Moral, and Personal Moral Dilemmas, considering sociodemographic factors, employment details, pandemic experience, empathy, and job stress. The study found job stress significantly impacts moral decision-making. For Impersonal Moral Dilemmas, higher job stress-often r

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the relationship between employment quality and workers' health and well-being in China.
METHODS: Data were drawn from the 2018, 2020, and 2022 waves of the China Family Panel Studies. We constructed an individual-level panel sample and measured employment quality using 4 dimensions: reward, job satisfaction, working-time quality, and social security. Individual fixed-effects models were used as the main estimation approach. Robustness checks were conducted using a balanced panel sample and an alternative employment quality index excluding the job satisfaction

An attempt to investigate the types of jobs held by people with mild mental retardation in Hong Kong has been made by this pilot study, to evaluate the job-related skills required and to build the foundation for the development of a computerized job evaluation system. A local market survey was conducted, and 14 supported employment staff, five employers and 38 people with mild mental retardation were interviewed. Eleven job analyses were also conducted. All of the interviews were carried out with an interview guide sheet developed from O*NET. The majority of the jobs were unskilled (70.4%) and

This study examines the relationship between multidimensional economic insecurity, structural socioeconomic change, and female suicide vulnerability in China. The analysis employs a qualitative secondary-data approach using annual national time-series data for China covering 2000-2024, sourced from the World Health Organization Mortality Database, World Bank World Development Indicators, and International Labour Organization labour statistics. Descriptive trend and comparative analyses supported by graphical visualisation techniques were used to examine patterns and associations among the vari

Digital labour platforms are reshaping the world of work across a wide range of sectors, offering greater flexibility and accessibility than traditional labour markets. However, existing research suggests that platform work is often associated with low-quality working conditions and may exacerbate inequalities. This study examines the economic and social dimensions of digital platform labour in Italy-a country characterised by labour market fragmentation and the widespread use of non-standard employment-using official survey data collected in 2018 and 2021. This paper proposes a model of job quality, developed from interviews with blue collar workers: bus drivers, manufacturing operatives and cleaners (n = 80). The model distinguishes between core features, important for almost all workers, and 'job fit' features, important to some but not others, or where individuals might have different preferences. Core job features found important for almost all interviewees included job security, personal safety and having enough pay to meet their needs. 'Job fit' features included autonomy and the opportunity to form close relationships. These showed more

Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home (WFH) has become a common practice in the workplace. This raises the question of whether WFH changes the non-monetary benefits of work, such as job quality or social contacts. Thus, in this article, we investigate how working from home affects Jahoda's latent functions of employment as well as job quality measures. To this end, we use panel data from the German Panel Study Labour Market and Social Security (PASS) and estimate the effects of changing work patterns on the aforementioned outcomes. Our findings reveal basically no effects o
