Research interest on dental sealant in dentistry based on the 100 most cited articles: bibliometric analysis.

The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the characteristics of the 100 most cited articles about dental sealants (DS) in dentistry. In September 2023, a search was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC) database. The following information was extracted from each article: number and density of citations, year of publication, authorship, journal, impact factor, keywords, study design, theme, continent, country, and institution. The citations of the WoS-CC were compared with those of the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The VOSviewer software was used to generate c

Bibliometric assessment in implant-retained overdenture articles: Mapping citation and journal impact factor trends.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Implant-retained overdentures are a recognized treatment option. However, a comprehensive assessment of all articles on implant-retained overdentures to identify publication standards such as mean citation and the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) impact factor is lacking. PURPOSE: The purpose of this bibliometric assessment was to evaluate the association of mean citation and JCR impact factor with bibliometric parameters in articles on implant-retained overdentures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Articles reporting randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) and nonrandomized co

Biofilm and dental implant: The microbial link.

Mouth provides a congenial environment for the growth of the microorganisms as compared to any other part of the human body by exhibiting an ideal nonshedding surface. Dental plaque happens to be a diverse community of the microorganisms found on the tooth surface. Periodontal disease and the peri-implant disease are specific infections that are originating from these resident microbial species when the balance between the host and the microbial pathogenicity gets disrupted. This review discusses the biofilms in relation to the peri-implant region, factors affecting its presence, and the assoc

Pulpotomy in primary teeth: review of the literature according to standardized criteria.

AIM: To assess the relevant literature using a modification of the criteria listed in the introductory paper to this issue [Curzon and Toumba, 2006], and to review several new publications on pulpotomies with different materials and techniques that appeared after previously published reviews. METHODS: A search of the literature on pulpotomies was identified using Medline between the years 1966-2005. The search generated 358 citations and sieving of these papers was conducted by examining the paper title and assessing its relevance [Loh et al., 2004]. Only clinical studies (non-specified) and

Jonathan Taft: dentistry's great forgotten hero.

One of the greatest figures in the development of the dental profession to the high status it enjoys today is all but forgotten. Jonathan Taft was dean of the second dental school in the world and wrote the most important clinical textbook of his time, one that was reprinted in many editions over a quarter of a century. Later appointed dean of the new University of Michigan Dental School, he instituted innovations in admission requirements and course of study that were copied by all subsequent schools and are the standards adhered to today. The editor of one of the most important dental journa

Are open science practices in dentistry associated with higher Altmetric scores and citation rates?

AIM: Open science, a set of principles and practices, aims to make scientific research more accessible and accountable, benefiting scientists and society. This study evaluated whether adopting open science practices (OSPs) correlates with higher citation rates and Altmetric scores. METHODS: A random sample of randomised clinical trials (RCTs) on dental caries published between 2000 and 2022 was selected. A systematic PubMed search identified relevant RCTs, and data on OSPs - study registration, open methodology, open software, open scripts, open analysis plan, open data, open peer review, and

[Changing methods of pain- and fear-relief in dental treatments based on reports published in 'Fogorvosi Szemle'].

In the dental practice--for more than a 100 years--it has been a vital topic how to prevent, eliminate, or at least relieve pain and fear associated with dental treatments. 'Fogorvosi Szemle,' the scientific journal of the Hungarian Dental Association is now a 100 years old. Authors present how the approaches and methods of relieving pain and fear have changed in the past century, based on the reports published in this journal. The reports are grouped in three main topics: local anaesthetics and sedatives; ambulatory narcosis and sedative analgesia; hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Based on the publ

Discussing a Forensic Dental Examination of 1861--A Scientific and Historic Overview.

This work is a discussion on a report of dental examination and exclusion made by a British dentist Francis Robertus Lloyd on 30th April 1861. The report entitled: 'Dentistry as a means of Identification' was published in the 'British Journal of Dental Science' under the section 'Miscellanea' in 1861; Mr. Lloyd was contacted by the Indian authorities in order to identify a skull. He may well be the first British dentist to officially report a dental examination in an academic journal. The aims of this discussion are to briefly analyze the difficulties of access to scientific techniques in that

Informed consent for photography in dental practice.

There are many reasons why patient images are used in dental practice. They are incorporated into the dental record as an adjunct to clinical care, displayed to colleagues, students and other audiences in educational settings, and published in scientific journals or other media as part of dental research. In each case it is not only prudent, but necessary for the patients' protection and interest that appropriate consent be obtained. While scientific journals invariably require written consent for photographs that may identify the patient, the format of the photograph consent form is usually n

Charting the use of mini-clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX) in nursing and dental education: a bibliometric analysis from the Web of Science database.

BACKGROUND: Workplace-based assessments, such as the mini-clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX), are increasingly used to evaluate clinical competence in authentic healthcare settings. This study aimed to map and evaluate the global research landscape of mini-CEX in nursing and dental education through bibliometric analysis. METHODS: A literature search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection on July 1, 2025, using the terms "mini-CEX," "mini clinical evaluation exercise," "nursing," "nurse," "dental," and "dentistry." The eligible articles were studies published in English that

The dental water jet: a product ahead of its time.

The dental water jet was invented by Dr. Gerald Moyer, a dentist, and John Mattingly, an engineer, in Ft. Collins, Colorado, in the late 1950s. The dental water jet, also known as an oral irrigator, was introduced to the dental profession in Texas during the 1962 Dallas Dental Convention. Numerous studies measuring the irrigator's efficacy in different cohorts have been published in peer-reviewed journals. The results of those studies are discussed in this article. The bulk of research has been conducted on one product (Waterpik dental water jet, Water Pik, Inc, Fort Collins, CO). This article

Analysis of research trends in Korean dentistry journals by assigning MeSH to author keywords.

Researchers seek to identify optimal journals for submission based on their studies but tend to rely on journal impact factors or scientific journal rankings. We investigated research trends by selecting high-frequency words from author keywords (AKs), analyzing subject areas, and performing quantitative data analysis of Korean dental journals. Consequently, we suggest a method for choosing journals that fit a specific subject area.We used a corpus of 9 Korean dentistry journals regarded in Korea as quality internationally approved journals. AKs occurring more than 10 times were assigned to Me
