Effect of the aqueous extract of Justicia insularis T. Anders (Acanthaceae) on ovarian folliculogenesis and fertility of female rats.

Justicia insularis T. Anders (Acanthaceae) is a medicinal plant whose leaves and those of three other plants are mixed for the preparation of a concoction used to improve fertility and to reduce labour pains in women of the Western Region of Cameroon. Previous studies have demonstrated the inducing potential on ovarian folliculogenesis and steroidogenesis of the aqueous extract of the leaf mixture (ADHJ) of four medicinal plants (Aloe buettneri, Dicliptera verticillata, Hibiscus macranthus and Justicia insularis) among which the later represented the highest proportion. This study was aimed at

Optimization and Metabolomic Profiling of Justicia spicigera Extracts: Response Surface Methodology for Solvent and Extraction Technique Evaluation.

Muicle (Justicia spicigera) is a traditional Mexican medicinal plant rich in phenolic compounds and pigments, yet its extraction conditions have not been systematically optimized. Using a 3² factorial response surface methodology (RSM) design, solvent type (water, ethanol, hexane) and extraction technique (stirring, decoction, sonication) were evaluated in leaves and flowers. Total phenolic content ranged from 2.77 to 97.39 mg GAE/100 g in leaves and reached up to 139.82 mg GAE/100 g in flowers, while ABTS antioxidant capacity was remarkably high in both tissues. RSM models (R² ≥ 0.70) identif

Pharmacological activities and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis for the identification of bioactive compounds from Justicia adhatoda L.

The current study aimed to assess the pharmacological potential of Justicia adhatoda by evaluating the presence of biologically active compounds using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry approach and to undertake biological activities for the effectiveness of the present compounds using standard tests. A total of 21 compounds were identified in the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of the ethyl acetate fraction in which 14 of the identified compounds are recognized for their pharmacological potential in the literature. In total, four fractions (ethyl acetate, chloroform, n-hex

Characterization and Evaluation of Justicia adhatoda L. and Its Green Synthesized Nanoparticles for Its Efficacy in Culex quinquefasciatus.

BACKGROUND: Justicia adhatoda L., commonly referred to as Vasa or Vasaka, is a significant therapeutic shrub in traditional ayurvedic practice. This study examines the therapeutic potential of leaves from J. adhatoda in treating Mosquito-borne diseases. We hypothesized that J. adhatoda extract and its green synthesized silver nanoparticles may have antibacterial and antilarvicidal effects. METHODS: The aqueous leaf extracts of J. adhatoda were employed as a reducing and capping agent for the AgNP synthesis. The synthesized AgNPs were confirmed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Dynamic

Preclinical safety and anti-inflammatory activity of a standardized Justicia pectoralis Jacq. extract in experimental models of respiratory inflammation.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Justicia pectoralis Jacq. (Acanthaceae), known as chambá, is traditionally used in Latin America for respiratory ailments as an expectorant with bronchodilatory and anti-inflammatory properties. However, scientific validation of its efficacy and safety is limited. AIM OF THE STUDY: To develop a standardized extract (TI-138) and evaluate its stability, pharmacokinetics, efficacy, safety, and molecular mechanism of action. METHODS: The extract was standardized and characterised by LC-MS/MS. Pharmacokinetics and CYP3A4 interaction were studied in rats. Efficacy w

Green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using Justicia adhatoda for photocatalytic degradation of malachite green and reduction of 4-nitrophenol.

Achieving the smallest crystallite/particle size of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) reported to date, measuring 5.2/12.41 nm with Justicia adhatoda (J. adhatoda) leaf extract, this study introduces a facile green synthesis. Utilizing aqueous J. adhatoda leaf extract as both a reducing and stabilizing agent, the method leverages the plant's rich phytochemical composition to produce highly crystalline and morphologically controlled ZnO NPs. This precise particle size control highlights the effectiveness of the synthesis process in morphological tuning. The synthesized NPs were thoroughly char

Identification of alkaloids from Justicia adhatoda as potent SARS CoV-2 main protease inhibitors: An in silico perspective.

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS CoV-2, is responsible for millions of death worldwide. No approved/proper therapeutics is currently available which can effectively combat this outbreak. Several attempts have been undertaken in the search of effective drugs to control the spread of SARS CoV-2 infection. The main protease (Mpro), key component for the cleavage of the viral polyprotein, is considered to be one of the important drug targets for treating COVID-19. Various phytochemicals, including polyphenols and alkaloids, have been proposed as potent inhibitors of Mpro. The alkaloids from l

Justicia flava leaf extract potently relaxes pregnant human myometrial contractility: a lead plant for drug discovery of new tocolytic drugs.

NEW FINDINGS: What is the central question of this study? Can Justicia flava leaf extract (JF) inhibit human myometrial contractility as was previously shown in mouse myometrium? What is the main finding and its importance? JF abolished human myometrial contractions and therefore presents as a lead plant in drug discovery studies involving drugs for preterm birth. ABSTRACT: In the search for new potent therapies for preterm labour, Justicia flava leaf extract (JF) was previously shown to potently inhibit uterine contractility in both pregnant and non-pregnant mouse uterus. This study took the
