Orally administrated Lactobacillus gasseri TM13 and Lactobacillus crispatus LG55 can restore the vaginal health of patients recovering from bacterial vaginosis.

UNLABELLED: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common infection of the lower genital tract with a vaginal microbiome dysbiosis caused by decreasing of lactobacilli. Previous studies suggested that supplementation with live Lactobacillus may benefit the recovery of BV, however, the outcomes vary in people from different regions. Herein, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of oral Chinese-origin Lactobacillus with adjuvant metronidazole (MET) on treating Chinese BV patients. In total, 67 Chinese women with BV were enrolled in this parallel controlled trial and randomly assigned to two study groups:

Lactobacillus gasseri alleviates type 2 diabetes via modulation of gut microbiota-host metabolic networks.

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a multifactorial metabolic disorder characterized by insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and inflammation. Although probiotics have shown potential in improving glycemic control in T2DM, the systemic mechanisms underlying their therapeutic effects remain largely unclear. METHODS: A high glucose-induced insulin-resistant zebrafish model was established to explore the interventional effects of Lactobacillus gasseri GDMCC AM63 (L. gasseri). Biochemical assays combined with untargeted metabolomics were used to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of L.

Lactobacillus gasseri associated severe soft tissue infection of the lower extremity: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Lactobacilli are gram-positive, lactic acid-producing, facultative anaerobes of the human microbiota located in the human gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary tract, and the oral cavity and are considered non-pathogenic. When certain risk factors are present, they have the potential to cause serious infections. The incidence of localized infections associated with Lactobacilli are rare and to our knowledge we present the first known case of severe soft tissue infection of the extremity linked to a Lactobacillus strain. CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 41-year-old man

The Lactobacillus gasseri G098 Strain Mitigates Symptoms of DSS-Induced Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Mice.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a recurring inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract with unclear etiology, but it is thought to be related to factors like immune abnormalities and gut microbial dysbiosis. Probiotics can regulate host immunity and gut microbiota; thus, we investigated the alleviation effect and mechanism of the strain Lactobacillus gasseri G098 (G098) on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Three groups of mice (n = 8 per group) were included: normal control (NC), DSS-induced colitis mice (DSS), and colitis mice given strain (G098). Our results s

Adaptive laboratory evolution of Lactobacillus gasseri-01 toward a safe probiotic for enhanced sulforaphane transformation.

Sulforaphane is a potent isothiocyanate with significant physiological activity. Its bioavailability from dietary sources is relatively low and relies on biotransformation by the gut microbiota from glucoraphanin. Lactobacillus gasseri (L. gasseri) is a promising candidate for enhancing sulforaphane transformation because of its probiotic safety and inherent myrosinase-like activity. However, the natural transformation efficiency of the wild-type strain is limited, necessitating enhancement of its transformation capability. This research employed adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) to enhance

Oral administration of Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 is effective in preventing Porphyromonas gingivalis-accelerated periodontal disease.

Probiotics have been used to treat gastrointestinal disorders. However, the effect of orally intubated probiotics on oral disease remains unclear. We assessed the potential of oral administration of Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (LG2055) for Porphyromonas gingivalis infection. LG2055 treatment significantly reduced alveolar bone loss, detachment and disorganization of the periodontal ligament, and bacterial colonization by subsequent P. gingivalis challenge. Furthermore, the expression and secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 in gingival tissue was significantly decreased in LG2055-administered mice af

Oral Administration of Lactobacillus helveticus LA401 and Lactobacillus gasseri LA806 Combination Attenuates Oesophageal and Gastrointestinal Candidiasis and Consequent Gut Inflammation in Mice.

Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogen that causes mucosal gastrointestinal (GI) candidiasis tightly associated with gut inflammatory status. The emergence of drug resistance, the side effects of currently available antifungals and the high frequency of recurrent candidiasis indicate that new and improved therapeutics are needed. Probiotics have been suggested as a useful alternative for the management of candidiasis. We demonstrated that oral administration of Lactobacillus gasseri LA806 alone or combined with Lactobacillus helveticus LA401 in Candida albicans-infected mice decrease th

Screening, antioxidant and probiotic properties of a fermented beverage based on buttermilk, Lactobacillus gasseri LG08 and curcumin.

This Research Paper addresses the hypothesis that the use of a probiotic and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action of curcumin will improve the use of buttermilk, which is a by-product of the dairy industry that is still little used, despite its nutritional and technological properties. The production of beverages using buttermilk as a basis will contribute to the development of foods that support sustainability, reduce waste and have high nutritional quality. The aim of this research is to develop a functional dairy beverage with high antioxidant potential, combining probiotic (Lactoba

Qing-Chang-Hua-Shi granule ameliorates experimental colitis by modulating Lactobacillus gasseri-mediated ferroptosis metabolic pathway.

BACKGROUND: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory disorder marked by epithelial barrier disruption and persistent intestinal inflammation. Despite extensive research, its complex etiology continues to pose therapeutic challenges. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by lipid peroxidation, has recently been implicated in UC pathogenesis. Additionally, the gut microbiota and its metabolites play a pivotal role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis and barrier integrity. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of a phytotherape

Lactobacillus gasseri LGV03-derived indole-3-lactic acid ameliorates immune response by activating aryl hydrocarbon receptor.

Previous studies showed that the female genital tract microbiome plays a crucial role in regulating the host's immune defense mechanisms. Our previous research has shown that Lactobacillus gasseri LGV03 (L. gasseri LGV03) isolated from cervico-vagina of HPV-cleared women contributes to clearance of HPV infection and beneficially regulate immune response. However, the mechanisms behind the regulation of L. gasseri LGV03 in immune response remain unclear. To better understand the interaction between female genital tract microbiome and immune function, the immunomodulatory activities of L. gasser

Lactobacillus gasseri RW2014 Ameliorates Hyperlipidemia by Modulating Bile Acid Metabolism and Gut Microbiota Composition in Rats.

Hyperlipidemia is a leading risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Dietary supplementation with probiotics has been suggested as an alternative intervention to lower cholesterol. In the current study, we isolated a strain of Lactobacillus gasseri RW2014 (LGA) from the feces of a healthy infant fed with breast milk, and it displayed bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity. Using this strain we determined its cholesterol-lowering and fatty liver-improving functions. SD rats were randomly divided into four groups. The control rats were fed a commercial chow diet and the other three groups

Lactobacillus gasseri suppresses methionine-driven epigenetic programming of trained immunity-like priming to attenuate metabolic dysfunction.

Trained immunity-like epigenetic priming contributes to persistent metabolic inflammation in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but the upstream metabolic and microbiota-dependent regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we performed an exploratory study to examine whether Lactobacillus gasseri (Lact. gasseri) attenuates metabolic dysfunction by suppressing methionine-dependent epigenetic priming of innate immune cells, and to characterize how metformin regulates Lact. gasseri colonisation in the intestine. A diabetes-prone mouse model was established using high-fat diet (HFD) and low-dose st

Breast-Milk Lactobacillus Gasseri FN136 Alleviates DSS-Induced Ulcerative Colitis Through Microbiota-Independent Metabolite-Host Interactions.

Chronic, relapsing colonic inflammation defines ulcerative colitis (UC) and heightens long-term colorectal cancer risk. Probiotics, proven beneficial, have emerged as a promising adjunctive strategy for UC management. We conducted a two-tiered evaluation of the breast-milk-derived strain Lactobacillus gasseri FN136. In vitro, FN136 secreted anti-inflammatory amino acids and indole derivatives‌, displayed pronounced acid- and bile-salt tolerance, and exhibited significant antimicrobial activity. In vivo, daily oral administration of 1 × 10⁹ CFU FN136 markedly attenuated DSS-induced UC: serum L-

Acetate modulates the inhibitory effect of Lactobacillus gasseri against the pathogenic yeasts Candida albicans and Candida glabrata.

The exploration of the interference prompted by commensal bacteria over fungal pathogens is an interesting alternative to develop new therapies. In this work we scrutinized how the presence of the poorly studied vaginal species Lactobacillus gasseri affects relevant pathophysiological traits of Candida albicans and Candida glabrata. L. gasseri was found to form mixed biofilms with C. albicans and C. glabrata resulting in pronounced death of the yeast cells, while bacterial viability was not affected. Reduced viability of the two yeasts was also observed upon co-cultivation with L. gasseri unde
