Effect of various abiotic stressors on some biochemical indices of Lepidium sativum plants.

In this study, the regulation of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) specific activity, anthocyanin, carotenoid, hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxidation, and protein levels in cress leaves in response to different abiotic stresses were investigated. The total APX specific activity was significantly elevated after 9 days of drought treatment, short-term (2 h) exposure to 10, 100 and 370 µE of light, long-term exposure (at least 6 days) to 100 mM NaCl versus the specific APX activity in the controls. Furthermore, a significant change in total APX activity was detected in response to treatment with differen

The influence of maca (Lepidium meyenii) on antioxidant status, lipid and glucose metabolism in rat.

This work focused on the effect of Maca on lipid, anti-oxidative, and glucose parameters in hereditary hypertriglyceridemic (HHTg) rat. Maca (1%) was administred to rats as a part of a high-sucrose diet (HSD) for 2 weeks. Rosiglitazone (0.02%) was used as a positive control. Maca significantly decreased the levels of VLDL (very low density lipoproteins), LDL (low density lipoproteins), and total cholesterol, and also the level of TAG (triacylglycerols) in the plasma, VLDL, and liver. Maca, as well as rosiglitazone, significantly improved glucose tolerance, as the decrease of AUC (area under th

The influence of some important barbiturates on the capacity to stimulate or to stop the growth of seedling of Lepidium sativum L. was tested and the results statistically evaluated. Phenobarbital, cyclobarbital and pentobarbitial show a significant stimulating effect on growth between 10(-2) and 10(-4) moles/l. All barbiturates in concentrations over 10(-3)M act strongly inhibiting. The average inhibitory concentrations (ID50) show a clear dependence on biological properties, in the first place the partition coefficient.

Morpho-physiological and molecular responses of Lepidium sativum L. seeds induced by bismuth exposure.

Bismuth (Bi) is considered a "green metal" as its toxicity has been reported to be lower than other metals, particularly lead. Even though the low presence in the environment, an increase of Bi concentrations in soil and wastewater is predictable due to its enhanced uses for many industrial and medical applications. Therefore, given the little literature on the matter, particularly in plants, information on the effects of Bi on living organisms is needed. In this study, seeds of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.), a model plant for ecotoxicological assays (OECD), were exposed to increasing Bi

Lepidium meyenii Walpers Promotes the Regeneration of Salivary Gland and Prevents Xerostomia After Irradiation Injury.

OBJECTIVES: Lepidium meyenii Walpers (LMW), a high-altitude plant, is known to stimulate hormone release, counteract neurodegeneration, and protect against oxidative stress. Saliva is vital for oral health, and reduced production leads to xerostomia, often caused by aging, radiation, or Sjögren's syndrome. Key pathological features include mesenchymal fibrosis and acinar atrophy, largely regulated by the TGF-β1 pathway. Current treatments are limited, with many patients relying on artificial saliva. Developing therapies to restore salivary function could offer significant benefits. METHODS: I
