Artificial intelligence and personalised medicine in liver cancer.

Primary liver cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, represent a growing global health burden marked by rising incidence and high mortality. Clinical management requires integration of tumour stage, liver function, and patient-related factors to guide treatment decisions, yet current frameworks capture only a fraction of underlying disease complexity. In this setting, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a key enabler of precision medicine in liver oncology. AI encompasses machine learning and deep learning approaches capable of identifying complex, non-line

Diagnosis of liver diseases based on artificial intelligence.

Due to a series of problems in the diagnosis of liver disease, the mortality rate of liver disease patients is very high. Therefore, it is necessary for doctors and researchers to find a more effective non-invasive diagnostic method to meet clinical needs. We analyzed data from 416 patients with liver disease and 167 patients without liver disease from northeastern Andhra Pradesh, India. On the basis of considering age, gender and other basic data of patients, this paper uses total bilirubin and other clinical data as parameters to build a diagnostic model. In this paper, the accuracy of artif

The role of artificial intelligence in the management of liver diseases.

Universal neonatal hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination and the advent of direct-acting antivirals (DAA) against hepatitis C virus (HCV) have reshaped the epidemiology of chronic liver diseases. However, some aspects of the management of chronic liver diseases remain unresolved. Nucleotide analogs can achieve sustained HBV DNA suppression but rarely lead to a functional cure. Despite the high efficacy of DAAs, successful antiviral therapy does not eliminate the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), highlighted the need for cost-effective identification of high-risk populations for HCC surveil

Evaluation of a hybrid artificial liver module with liver lobule-like structure in rats with liver failure.

We studied the recovery of rats with fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) by treating them with our original hybrid artificial liver support system (HALSS). We developed an original artificial liver module having a liver lobule-like structure (LLS). This module consists of many hollow fibers regularly arranged in close proximity and hepatocyte aggregates (organoids) induced into the extra capillary space of the module by centrifugal force. The LLS module can express some liver specific functions at high levels and maintain them for several months in vitro. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy o

Advancements in artificial intelligence applications for liver ultrasound imaging.

Liver diseases consistently plague people's daily lives as a result of their high morbidity and mortality rates. Ultrasound (US), favoured by its flexibility, free of radiation, cost-effectiveness, and real-time capabilities, has been commonly employed as one of the first-line imaging tools for hepatic conditions. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are increasingly applied to automatically identify intricate patterns and perform quantitative analyses in US imaging, potentially reducing radiologists' workload and improving diagnostic efficiency. AI-based US has been of substantial assistan

Comparison of Two Artificial Liver Treatments for Acute Liver Failure: A Retrospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Liver failure can lead to severe disorders in the body's metabolism, detoxification, synthesis and other functions, with a high mortality rate of 60%-90%. The dual plasma molecular adsorption system (DPMAS) is a new artificial liver technology that has received much attention in recent years. However, it cannot provide coagulation factors, albumin or other substances during the treatment process and may even consume albumin during the adsorption process. The DPMAS typically needs to be used in combination with plasma exchange (PE). Few studies have compared PE alone and DPMAS + PE.

Prognostic value of serum alpha-fetoprotein kinetics in liver failure on artificial liver support.

BACKGROUND: Liver failure, particularly acute-on-chronic liver failure, is associated with high mortality (50%-90%). The plasma exchange (PE) mode of the artificial liver support system has been shown to improve clinical outcomes, although its efficacy may vary depending on the regenerative capacity of the liver. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), an oncofetal glycoprotein, is reactivated during liver regeneration and may serve as a prognostic biomarker. Previous studies have reported significantly higher post-PE AFP levels in survivors than in non-survivors (286.5 ng/mL vs 82.3 ng/mL at day 7). However
