Evaluation of Insecticidal Activity of Macrolide and Neonicotinoid Insecticides Against Zeugodacus tau (Walker) and Their Residue Dissipation Dynamics in Luffa cylindrica.

Zeugodacus tau (Walker) is a major invasive pest that targets cucurbitaceous plants and other economically significant crops, causing substantial yield and quality losses. The pest's method of infesting the fruit, however, limits the efficacy of conventional chemical control strategies. This study comprehensively evaluates the insecticidal efficacy of seven insecticides from two key classes-macrolides and neonicotinoids-against various developmental stages of Z. tau. Additionally, it investigates the distribution and degradation patterns of pesticide residues on sponge gourd. Laboratory toxici

Effects of Luffa cylindrica (L.) Roem Extract on Microglial Activation-Mediated Mild Cognitive Impairment via Regulation of CREB Signaling Pathway.

Neuroinflammation is increasingly recognized as a pivotal contributor to mild cognitive impairment (MCI), with microglial activation playing a central role in this process. While Luffa cylindrica (L.) Roem is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, its effects on MCI and its active components have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we evaluated the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of Luffa cylindrica extract (LCE) on microglial activation and MCI-like behaviors induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). BV2 microglial cells were stimulated with LPS (1 μg/ml) and treated with

Combination of zero-valent iron and anaerobic microorganisms immobilized in luffa sponge for degrading 1,1,1-trichloroethane and the relevant microbial community analysis.

1,1,1-Trichloroethane (1,1,1-TCA), a dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL), is relatively slow to remediate naturally; combination of zero-valent iron and immobilized microorganism is a potential means to accelerate DNAPL biodegradation. We first adopted high density luffa sponge (HDLS) as immobilized microorganism carrier. The experimental results demonstrated that (1) the supernatant liquid microorganisms were the optimal immobilized microorganisms for HDLS and (2) the combination of zero-valent iron and immobilized microorganisms accelerated 1,1,1-TCA transformation. Furthermore, in the lo

Organic extracts from Luffa aegyptiaca (Mill) and Prosopis laevigata (Humb. et Bonpl. ex Willd) M.C. Johnst fruits exhibit in vitro larvicidal activity against Haemonchus contortus.

Haemonchus contortus is the most harmful nematode responsible for severe anemia and mortality in lambs. Conventional control strategies rely heavily on synthetic anthelmintics; however, this approach promotes the generation of anthelmintic (AH) resistance. Plants with AH properties offer a natural alternative for sustainable control. This study evaluated the in vitro nematocidal activity (NA) of hydroalcoholic extracts (E-HOH) obtained from the fruits of Luffa aegyptiaca (sponge gourd) and Prosopis laevigata (mesquite). Qualitative phytochemical analyses were performed to identify secondary co

Evaluation of the inflammatory process, collagen production, and MMP-2 and MMP-9 expressions produced by Luffa aegyptiaca Mill using the subcutaneous rat implanted model.

The subcutaneous rat implanted model is a preclinical approach used in studies to characterize the histocompatibility of materials that could be used as biomaterials. Biomaterials are obtained synthetically or from the environment, and they can be used to treat or replace any tissues or organs that the body has lost. To execute their roles, the biomaterials must present any level of histocompatibility and a lower level of inflammatory reaction. This work aimed to evaluate some aspects of histocompatibility, such as the inflammatory process, collagen production, and MMP-2 and 9 expression as re

Long-chain unsaturated free fatty acids control gut motility via nitrergic ganglia of the enteric nervous system.

Although mechanical tension from luminal distension is a primary regulator of gut motility, we reveal a parallel chemosensory pathway wherein long-chain unsaturated free fatty acids (LUFFAs) from dietary or enterobacterial sources directly modulate gastrointestinal motor function. Using ex vivo and in vivo contractility assays in human and murine intestinal tissues, we found that LUFFAs, particularly Omega-3 fatty acids, suppressed spontaneous contractions and delayed intestinal transit in a double bond-dependent manner. Mechanistically, selective activation of free fatty acid receptor 1/4 (FF
