The association of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) to breast implants (breast implant-associated ALCL) has brought back the discussion on the clinical safety of the use of silicone implants. A 63-year-old woman came to our institution in early 2015, reporting a gluteal augmentation with silicone implants in 2006 and a recent increasing volume and distortion of the left buttock. Radiologic imaging showed a large amount of fluid collection around the implant. The left side implant was removed and the capsule was left intact, presupposing a future reimplantation. The fluid collected was pos

A case is presented of CD30+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma of the spleen. The patient, a 61 year old woman with a history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was seen for the sudden development of splenomegaly with thrombocytopenia. A splenectomy was performed which showed massive replacement of the spleen by a population of large atypical lymphoid cells showing bizarre nuclear forms and multinucleated tumor cells reminiscent of Reed-Sternberg cells. Immunohistochemical studies showed strong membrane and dot-like paranuclear positivity in the majority of the atypical cells for CD30, with co

Large cell anaplastic lymphoma (LCAL) is a recently described entity recognized by its constant expression of the CD30 antigen and by its morphology. LCAL is classified as high grade malignant lymphoma. We report 10 patients with LCAL of the skin, three with primary LCAL and others in which it developed with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, mainly mycosis fungoides. The immunophenotype in all but one of these cases, was that of activated T cells.

ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is an aggressive non-Hodgkin T-cell lymphoma. Compared to ALK-positive ALCL, patients with ALK-negative ALCL typically are older, present with nodal disease, and have lower survival rates. We report a unique presentation of ALK-negative ALCL in a pleural fluid. Cell block preparation enabled both confirmation of the diagnosis via immunohistochemical staining and gene rearrangement testing for prognostic information.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a T cell subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Typically, lymphoma rarely infiltrates vascular structure. In this article, we present a case of retroperitoneal ALK-positive ALCL with splenic venous tumor thrombosis. A 62-year-old patient presented to our institute with the symptoms of epigastric pain, abdominal distension, and reduced bowel movement. Physical examination indicated no enlarged peripheral lymph nodes or abdominal mass. Laboratory workup revealed granulocytosis, abnormal coagulation function, an

CONTEXT: Fascin is an actin-bundling protein involved in the formation of dendritic processes. Fascin is a sensitive marker for classical Reed-Sternberg cells and has a high negative predictive value for diagnosis of classical Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL). Fascin has been used to distinguish CHL from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Recently, it was shown that fascin might not help differentiate CHL from anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Moreover, fascin has not been extensively studied in the context of other large cell lymphomas.
OBJECTIVE: To analyze fascin expression in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

Large B-cell lymphomas include several subtypes. Recently, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive large B-cell lymphoma has been delineated as a distinct entity involving mostly lymph nodes and rarely affecting extranodal sites. We describe the first case of a primary cutaneous ALK-positive large B-cell lymphoma in a 48-year-old man with a solitary nodule on the back, and describe the histologic and phenotypic features. Accurate staging confirmed the absence of other lesions, and so surgical excision and postoperative local radiation therapy were initiated and resulted in complete remission

Purpose: To describe a case of T-cell lymphoma with bilateral vitreous involvement. Methods: A case report was reviewed, and a literature review, including search terms such as "anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL)" and "T-cell lymphoma with ocular involvement", was performed. Results: A 56-year-old man presented with slurred speech, left-sided weakness, and floaters in his right eye. He was found to have an enhancing right frontal lobe mass with biopsy positive for ALCL. The right eye demonstrated 2+ vitreous cell, with a vitreous biopsy consistent with ALCL. His floaters resolved, and the p

ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) represents approximately 6-7% of the mature T-cell lymphomas. This subtype contains a translocation between the ALK gene on chromosome 2 and one of several other genes that together form an oncogene. The most frequent translocation is t(2;5) which combines ALK with NPM1. This lymphoma has a median age of 34 years, is more common in males, and is in advanced stage at the time of diagnosis in most patients. ALK-positive ALCL is the most curable of the peripheral T-cell lymphomas. The CHOP regimen has been most frequently used, but results are im

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is an uncommon type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), as well as one of the subtypes of T cell lymphoma, accounting for 1 to 3% of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and around 15% of T cell lymphomas. In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified anaplastic large cell lymphoma into four categories: ALK-positive ALCL (ALK+ALCL), ALK-negative ALCL (ALK-ALCL), primary cutaneous ALCL (pcALCL), and breast-implant-associated ALCL (BIA-ALCL), respectively. Clinical symptoms, gene changes, prognoses, and therapy differ among the four types. Large lymphoid cells wit

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma has histopathologic features that necessitate a broad differential diagnosis. Diagnostic considerations include carcinoma, melanoma, and hematopoietic malignancies, including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, classical Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloid sarcoma, and peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified. Unusual features can include subtle sinusoidal involvement, histiocytic morphology, cytokeratin expression, CD15 expression, and variant patterns of anaplastic lymphoma kinase expression. Cases with unusual morphologic or immunohistochemical findings will be pr

Most solid pancreatic tumors are exocrine adenocarcinomas. We presented a patient with primary ALCL of the pancreas masquerading as a carcinoma of the head of pancreas. She was scheduled for a Whipple's operation and the intra-operative frozen section showed anaplastic carcinoma. The proper diagnosis was only derived later with CD30 immunohistochemical study. This carries important implications on the management, as radical surgery is indicated in resectable carcinoma but not for a chemosensitive lymphoma.

Primary renal lymphoma is a rare disease. There is still no agreement on its development primarily in this non-lymphoid organ. Some of the reported cases are questionable because of the incomplete staging of extrarenal disease. In the present study, we describe a rare case of a 73-year-old white man presenting with right flank pain. Physical examination did not reveal any peripheral lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly. An abdominal computerized tomography (CT) showed a large tumor in the right kidney with no enlarged liver, spleen or lymph nodes. On morphological and immunohistochemical exam
