Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is an uncommon clinical problem and even more rarely presents to the ophthalmologist. A case is described in which a 60-year-old Fijian woman presented with sudden, sequential, complete visual loss in association with signs of scleritis. Direct eyewall biopsy and nasal mucosal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of lymphomatoid granulomatosis. Despite intensive high-dose oral prednisone therapy her vision remained at no light perception and she developed recrudescence of disease necessitating the use of radiotherapy. All systemic investigations failed to show any other o…

Two patients with lymphomatoid granulomatosis are presented. The radiographic characteristics of this disease are similar to the limited form of Wegener's granulomatosis. It shows a predilection for males in the fifth and sixth decade and can progress into a malignant lymphoma. The radiologic features, histologic characteristics, differential diagnosis and therapeutic approach are briefly discussed.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis developed in a patient with pemphigus vulgaris who had been undergoing immunosuppressive therapy for three years. At autopsy, typical angiodestructive and angiocentric lesions with large lymphoid cells (immunoblasts) were found in the lungs and mediastinal nodes. Although a direct causal relationship between immunosuppression and lymphomatoid granulomatosis is lacking, the association of the two has been described. Immunoblastic sarcoma is also seen in immunosuppressed patients, and the role of the immunoblast in both of these disorders indicates that they may be re…

Two cases of misdiagnoses of lymphomatoid granulomatosis are discussed here. Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is an Epstein-Barr virus-associated lymphoproliferative disorder with aggressive behavior. Due to its rarity and many presentations, delay in diagnosis and treatment is common. Its histological features including large atypical B-cells, T cell predominance, angiocentricity, necrosis, and evidence of EBV-positive cells should elicit the diagnosis of lymphomatoid granulomatosis. The settings that are described here have not yet been described in the literature.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder which affects extranodal sites, most commonly lung. Radiologically, it typically presents with multiple nodular opacities that may wax and wane. The reversed halo sign has previously been reported in cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and more recently in South American blastomycosis. We describe a case of histologically proven lymphomatoid granulomatosis in a patient who presented initially with the more typical nodular opacities, which subsequently progressed into the reversed halo sign. To the best of our knowledge, this assoc…

A case is reported of central retinal artery obstruction appearing during the course of a Liebow lymphomatoid granulomatosis. Extrapulmonary manifestations of this necrotizing angiitis, and the differential diagnosis with Wegener's granulomatosis are discussed.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a rare Epstein-Barr virus-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. While LYG mainly causes pulmonary lesions, it is also known to cause extrapulmonary lesions involving the kidney; however, there are limited reports describing the pathology of extrapulmonary lesions in detail. We report the case of an 82-year-old woman who presented with fever and multiple pulmonary nodules, along with elevated urinary β2-microglobulin and proteinuria. A renal biopsy revealed granuloma-like interstitial infiltrates consisting predominantly of CD3+ and CD4+ T lymphocy…

In this report, we discuss an unusual case of pulmonary lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG), a rare form of angiocentric and angiodestructive lymphoproliferative disorder. This disease is thought to be caused by Epstein-Barr virus-induced lymphoproliferation. A 39-year-old male with no signi ficant past medical history presented with flu-like symptoms. Upon further evaluation, laboratory studies noted pancytopenia, and a chest X-ray showed bilateral nodular densities. A computerized tomography (CT) scan demonstrated bilateral pulmonary nodules and splenomegaly. A biopsy of the pulmonary nodules …

BACKGROUND: Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is a rare disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) with few cases being reported in literature. We present the case of an adult with an unusual lesion of the CNS who presented with motor seizures and was diagnosed with lymphomatoid granulomatosis, followed by a discussion of the process of evaluation and management.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 42-year-old male presented with motor seizures and loss of consciousness for 10 minutes along with dysarthria and left hemiplegia. Neurological examination and imaging with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brai…

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a rare Epstein-Barr virus-associated B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder and was incorporated into the WHO classification of Tumours of the Lung, Pleura, Thymus and Heart in 2015. LYG is known to be associated with the host's immune function, and can be caused by some immunosuppressive agents, including methotrexate. A woman in her sixties with an 18-year history of methotrexate treatment for rheumatoid arthritis visited our hospital after detection of an abnormal chest shadow on her radiograph. She had been having anemia and a slight fever. Computed tomogr…

A female patient with lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) involving lung, liver and spleen is described. Our case presented with signs and laboratory data indicating severe hepatic failure. It is not clear if this disorder represents a distinct pathological or clinical entity. In this report the differences between LYG and the two disease groups which it most resembles, Wegener's granulomatosis and malignant lymphoma are discussed.

We report the case of a 55 year old man who presented as Pancoast's syndrome associated with a left sided Horner's syndrome, a mass in the left supraclavicular fossa and marked weakness with wasting of the left arm consistent with a left sided brachial plexus lesion. Biopsy revealed the typical features of lymphomatoid granulomatosis. Neurological involvement is a rare presenting manifestation of this uncommon disease. Lymphomatoid granulomatosis should be considered as a rare but potentially treatable cause of Pancoast's syndrome.

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) is a rare angio-destructive lymphoproliferative disorder (LPD) of uncertain etiology, with prominent pulmonary involvement. Recent studies indicate that LYG is an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated B cell LPD with large numbers of background reactive T lymphocytes (T cell-rich B cell lymphoma). Although the disease frequently, but not exclusively, occurs in various immunodeficiency states, it has not been reported in association with the transient immunosuppression following autologous bone marrow/peripheral stem cell transplantation (ABM/PSCT). We describe a…

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LG) exhibits many similarities both clinically and pathologically to angiocentric T/NK cell lymphoma and was until recently considered to be part of the same disease spectrum. However, recent data indicate that LG is an EBV positive B cell proliferation associated with an exuberant T cell reaction. LG presents in extranodal sites, most commonly the lung (Katzenstein and Peiper, 1990). Other frequent sites of involvement include kidney, skin, central nervous system and liver. The pattern of necrosis in both LG and T/NK cell lymphoma is very similar, emphasizing the …

The lymphomatoid granulomatosis was first definded by Liebow, Carrington and Friedman as a vascular angiodestructive lymphoreticular proliferation process. The clinical symptoms and signs are pruritus, acquired ichthyosis and the following cutaneous alterations: widespread skin nodules and plaques, patchy alopecia and anhidrosis. Our patient revealed the cutaneous pattern mentioned above and a pathological pneumonography, showing diffuse infiltrates in the lower lobes of the lung. Epithelial islands are a characteristic feature of the lymphadenoid infiltrate in our patient. To our knowledge, o…
