Signatures of Edge States in Antiferromagnetic Van der Waals Josephson Junctions.

The combination of superconductivity and magnetic textures leads to unconventional superconducting phenomena, including new correlated and topological phases. Van der Waals (vdW) materials emerge as a versatile platform for exploring the interplay between these two competing orders. Here, we report on individual NbSe 2 / NiPS 3 / NbSe 2 Josephson junctions behaving as superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs), which we attribute to the interplay between the superconductivity of NbSe 2 and the spin texture of the vdW antiferromagnetic insulator NiPS 3 . This behavior persists f

Using molecular amphiphiles to dope nano-Au with Cu2+: 20-fold higher magnetic dopant density and evidence for a proximity Kondo effect.

Kondo scattering was originally observed in Au alloys containing dilute magnetic dopants. While higher densities reveal additional exotic quantum phenomena in other materials, advances combining Au and molecular systems have only increased magnetic dopant density to 0.1%. We demonstrate for the first time a doping method employing ions (Cu2+ or Zn2+), bifunctional, amphiphilic molecular wires (4-mercaptobenzoic acid) and nano-Au systems (nano-aggregates or thin films). (1) The high surface-to-volume ratios of nanostructures and (2) the abilities for bifunctional molecules to form closely-packe

Tunable multistate field-free switching and ratchet effect by spin-orbit torque in canted ferrimagnetic alloy.

Spin-orbit torque is not only a useful probe to study manipulation of magnetic textures and magnetic states at the nanoscale but also it carries great potential for next-generation computing applications. Here we report the observation of rich spin-orbit torque switching phenomena such as field-free switching, multistate switching, memristor behavior and ratchet effect in a single shot, co-sputtered, rare earth-transition metal GdxCo100-x. Notably such effects have only been observed in antiferromagnet/ferromagnet bi-layer systems previously. We show that these effects can be traced to a large

Enhanced Rashba Spin Orbit Coupling and Magnetic Behavior at Oxide Heterointerfaces by Optical Gating.

Complex oxide heterointerfaces have been a hot research spot due to their rich physical phenomena and broad quantum coherence that respond to multiple external stimuli. Among these external stimuli, light is a very powerful one to manipulate properties such as carrier density and spin characteristics. However, achieving a light-magnetic correlation is in high demand for multifield responding devices, and its intrinsic mechanism remains unclear. Here, by illuminating Nd0.86Sr0.14Al0.86Ni0.14O3-SrTiO3 heterointerfaces using 360 nm light, we observe a series of interesting physical phenomena, lik

Tunable unconventional spin orbit torque magnetization dynamics in van der Waals heterostructures.

Two-dimensional quantum material heterostructures can offer a promising platform for energy-efficient non-volatile spin-based technologies. However, spin dynamics experiments to understand the basic spin-orbit torque phenomena are so far lacking. Here, we demonstrate unconventional out-of-plane magnetization dynamics, and energy-efficient and field-free spin-orbit torque switching in a van der Waals heterostructure comprising out-of-plane magnet Fe3GaTe2 and topological Weyl semimetal TaIrTe4. We measured non-linear second harmonic Hall signal in TaIrTe4/Fe3GaTe2 devices to evaluate the magnet

Canted spin order as a platform for ultrafast conversion of magnons.

Traditionally, magnetic solids are divided into two main classes-ferromagnets and antiferromagnets with parallel and antiparallel spin orders, respectively. Although normally the antiferromagnets have zero magnetization, in some of them an additional antisymmetric spin-spin interaction arises owing to a strong spin-orbit coupling and results in canting of the spins, thereby producing net magnetization. The canted antiferromagnets combine antiferromagnetic order with phenomena typical of ferromagnets and hold great potential for spintronics and magnonics1-5. In this way, they can be identified

[Radiological and magnetic resonance aspects in cerebral venous angioma].

This report based on a series of 8 cases deals with the appearance of cerebral venous angiomas with computed tomography (CT), arteriography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The CT data are not conclusive, and venous involvement is demonstrated by arteriography, as well as the site of involvement. Magnetic resonance imaging seems to be useful owing to the morphological information and data on flow phenomena it provides.

Controllable Quantum Phase Transitions and Frustrated Spin Responses in Multiferroic FeS Nanotubes.

Geometric frustration drives exotic quantum phases and transitions in condensed matter. One-dimensional frustrated magnets with inherent controllability are particularly promising for studying fundamental quantum physics, yet experimentally tunable systems remain scarce. Here, using first-principles calculations and confined structure search, we predict a novel one-dimensional platform: confined FeS nanotubes with twisted-triangular geometry. These nanotubes exhibit a triple-well energy landscape, hosting two ferroelectric and one paraelectric phases, exhibiting collinear antiferromagnetic and

Mechanical Sensing of Metamagnetic Tricriticality in Two-Dimensional CrI_{3}.

Layered Ising metamagnets are antiferromagnetic (AF) materials consisting of monolayer Ising ferromagnets coupled to each other via interlayer AF interactions. They exhibit rich magnetic phase diagrams, featuring tricritical and critical end points, due to the competing magnetic interactions and the Ising anisotropy. While conventional thermodynamic probes can identify these critical points in bulk Ising metamagnets, achieving this in the two-dimensional (2D) limit, where enhanced fluctuation effects can substantially modify critical phenomena, remains to be realized. Here, we combine a nanome

Spontaneous Magnetization Induced by Antiferromagnetic Toroidal Ordering.

The magnetic toroidal dipole moment, which is induced by a vortex-type spin texture, manifests itself in parity-breaking physical phenomena, such as a linear magnetoelectric effect and nonreciprocal transport. We elucidate that a staggered alignment of the magnetic toroidal dipole can give rise to spontaneous magnetization even under antiferromagnetic structures. We demonstrate the emergence of uniform magnetization by considering the collinear antiferromagnetic structure with the staggered magnetic toroidal dipole moment on a bilayer zigzag chain. Based on the model calculations, we show that

The direct role of nuclear motion in spin-orbit coupling in strongly correlated spin systems.

The interaction between the magnetic moment of an electron and the magnetic field generated by a moving charge is one component of the spin-orbit interaction. The nuclei in a molecule or solid are charged, are generally in vibrational motion, and so contribute to this interaction, but the direct coupling between nuclear momentum and electron spin is normally ignored in discussions of spin-forbidden phenomena such as transitions between states of different spin, even when the nuclei are recognized as playing a fundamental role (spin-vibronic coupling). Here, we investigate the spin-orbit intera

The challenging path toward high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall effect in MnBi2Te4.

Since being theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed as an intrinsic antiferromagnetic topological insulator in 2019, the MnBi2Te4family of materials has greatly propelled the development of condensed matter physics over the past several years. This family naturally integrates long-range magnetic order with topological band structure within a two-dimensional van der Waals layered material, providing an unprecedentedly clean platform for exploring quantum phenomena such as axion insulators, the quantum anomalous Hall effect, and the topological magnetoelectric effect. However, the t

Artificial Life in-materio: Creatures in a Nanomagnetic Metamaterial.

Artificial life in-materio is the exploration of emergent life-like phenomena within physical material substrates. A rich variety of physical phenomena may support life-like behaviours, exploiting fundamentally different principles than biology. Here, we uncover life-like behaviours in artificial spin ice, a nanomagnetic metamaterial. In artificial spin ice, virtual creatures can be defined as spatio-temporal magnetic patterns that exist in the collective state of interacting nanomagnets. Pairing magnetic simulations with a genetic algorithm, we discover a diverse set of creatures, with behavi

Coherent magnetic and electronic structure symmetry broken in frustrated bilayer Kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn2.

In this letter, by measuring resistivity and magnetization with magnetic fieldHrotated inabplane and currentIalongcaxis, we studied the magnetic and electronic structure symmetry of frustrated topological bilayer Kagome ferromagnet Fe3Sn2. We observed that the curves of the resistivity and magnetization both showed broken two-fold symmetry from 5 K to 380 K. The further analysis indicates that there is a close causality between the spin arrangement and the electronic states in Fe3Sn2even above room temperature. These phenomena are closely related to the change in spin-orbit coupling (SOC) unde

Infra-cardiac Total Anomalous Venous Connection to Portal Vein - Unusual Dynamic Hepatic Flow Phenomenon Demonstrated with MRI.

Functional information regarding fluid movement within the body can be derived by magnetic resonance methods. This presentation illustrates an unique, intra-hepatic haemodynamic phenomenon, demonstrated by magnetic resonance imaging, in a case of infra-cardiac Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (TAPVC) Demonstration of such phenomena is unreported even after widespread use of cardiac MRI, although patho-physiology of such a phenomenon is expected in TAPVC. Magnetic field effect on the exciplex between all-s-trans- 1,4-diphenylbuta- 1,3-diene and 1,4-dicyanobenzene: a comparative study with other alpha,omega-diphenyl polyenes.

The exciplex between all-s-trans-1,4-diphenylbuta-1,3-diene and 1,4-dicyanobenzene has been studied by steady state fluorescence along with the magnetic field effect (MFE) and compared with the other alpha,omega-diphenyl polyenes. The exciplex formation and magnetic field effect are dictated by the chain length of the polyene rather than the electronic requirement of these phenomena. The wavelength dependence of the MFE confirms the presence of two different charge-transfer complexes.

Coexisting Non-Trivial Van der Waals Magnetic Orders Enable Field-Free Spin-Orbit Torque Magnetization Dynamics.

The discovery of van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials exhibiting non-trivial and tunable magnetic interactions can lead to exotic magnetic states that are not readily attainable with conventional materials. Such vdW magnets can provide a unique platform for studying new magnetic phenomena and realizing magnetization dynamics for energy-efficient and non-volatile spintronic memory and computing technologies. Here, the coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orders in vdW magnet (Co0.5Fe0.5)5-xGeTe2 (CFGT) above room temperature, inducing an intrinsic exchange bias and canted perpen

Effect of Magnetic Heating on Stability of Magnetic Colloids.

Stable aqueous suspension of magnetic nanoparticles is essential for effective magnetic hyperthermia and other applications of magnetic heating in an alternating magnetic field. However, the alternating magnetic field causes strong agglomeration of magnetic nanoparticles, and this can lead to undesirable phenomena that deteriorate the bulk magnetic properties of the material. It has been shown how this magnetic field influences the distribution of magnetic agglomerates in the suspension. When investigating the influence of the sonication treatment on magnetic colloids, it turned out that the h

Obsessive musical hallucinations in a schizophrenia patient: psychopathological and FMRI characteristics.

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) are relatively common and clinically significant phenomena in schizophrenia patients, suggesting the existence of a separate schizo-obsessive subgroup of the disorder. Although a majority of schizo-obsessive patients have typical ego-dystonic OCS, a meaningful proportion exhibits diagnostically challenging psychopathological phenomena, psychotic in content and obsessive in form. We report the clinical and functional magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of a schizophrenia patient who developed auditory hallucinations with musical content and obsessive i
