This report describes a patient with severe high angle class II malocclusion and mandibular retrusion in whom surgical orthodontic treatment to prevent an increase in ramus height resulted in a significant improvement in esthetics and long-term stability. The patient was a woman aged 30 years 5 months who presented with the chief complaint of maxillary protrusion. She had a convex facial type, a chin button on lip sealing, and a gummy smile. Cephalometric analysis revealed a normal maxilla anterior-posterior position, but significant mandibular retrusion with pronounced clockwise rotation. The

A 10-year-old girl with maxillary protrusion and crowding of the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth was treated in 2 phases. In the first phase of treatment, maxillary anterior growth was restrained and mandibular anterior growth promoted for skeletal improvement. In the second phase, at age 13, 4 first premolars were extracted, and an edgewise appliance was used for alveolar improvement. Because the patient had a high mandibular plane angle with a large Frankfort-mandibular plane angle, special care was taken from the beginning to prevent mandibular clockwise rotation. The Frankfort-mand

The transverse dimension, often overlooked in orthodontics, plays a crucial role in malocclusions, affecting not only occlusion in that dimension but also sagittal and vertical dimensions. Posterior crossbites, indicative of transverse maxillary issues, are commonly addressed through palatal expansion. This case report explores the clinical insights into addressing a constricted maxillary arch in Angle's Class II malocclusion using a nickel-titanium (NiTi) expander. The NiTi expander provides constant and optimal expansion forces by incorporating a temperature-activated NiTi alloy. A 16-year-o

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: High-angle skeletal Class II malocclusion is one of the most challenging dentofacial deviations to treat and, in adults, a combination of orthodontic treatment and bimaxillary orthognathic surgery is often indicated. This study examines the rate of clinically significant relapse and whether a genioplasty affects the treatment outcome of high-angle Class II malocclusions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Cephalometric tracings of 36 consecutively treated high-angle Class II patients were evaluated from pre-surgery to 3 years post-surgery. All patients had undergone bimaxillary

Background/Objectives: Soft tissue profile plays a crucial role in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. However, limited data exist regarding differences in facial soft tissue angles among adolescents with different classes of malocclusion. This study aimed to evaluate variations in soft tissue facial angles among patients with Angle Class I, II, and III malocclusions aged 12-16 years using profile photographs. Methods: This retrospective observational study included 489 patients (330 females and 159 males; mean age 13.69 ± 1.30 years) examined between January 2008 and December 2018.

AIM: The contemporary article aims to review and compare various literatures concerning different conclusions regarding the correlation between tooth size discrepancy (TSD) and Angle's malocclusion groups.
BACKGROUND: Acquiring the ideal occlusion plays one of the major roles while designing the treatment plan for an orthodontic patient, any alterations in the individual tooth sizes are called TSD and will hinder this prime requirement. By determining the correct tooth size ratio, it further helps in acquiring the accurate interdigitation, balanced occlusion, and also predicting the orthodont

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to determine whether Angle Class II subdivision malocclusions have skeletal or dental asymmetries between the Class II and Class I sides.
METHODS: A sample of 54 untreated Angle Class II subdivision patients with pretreatment photos and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans was used. The photos were used to identify the Class II subdivision malocclusion and to record the amount of crowding per quadrant. Landmarks were plotted on each CBCT volume so that direct 3-dimensional measurements could be made to compare the positions and dimensions of t

The treatment of skeletal anterior open-bite malocclusion requires complex orthodontic planning that considers its multifactorial etiology, treatment limitations, and high relapse rates. This case report illustrates a successful treatment approach for a skeletal high-angle Class II malocclusion in an adult with a severe open bite. The treatment consisted of a high-pull headgear therapy after mini-implants failure during fixed orthodontic therapy. Adequate esthetics and function were achieved. Despite its low probability, the unexpected event of mini-implant loosening during complex treatments

Low-angle skeletal class II malocclusions are often observed with sagittal and vertical developmental abnormalities of the mandible. Two-phase orthodontic treatment of functional orthopedic therapy combined with fixed correction is one of the most common methods to treat of skeletal class II malocclusions. This case report describes the two-phase orthodontic treatment of a patient with severe low-angle skeletal class II malocclusion. A Twin Block orthodontic appliance was used to improve mandibular growth, and the adjustment of the occlusal relationship using a fixed appliance after functional

BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW: Previous studies have suggested that occlusal discrepancy is a risk factor contributing to periodontal disease. Occlusal discrepancy could increase the risk of developing infrabony defects. The authors present a case of a patient with severe periodontitis who exhibited many infrabony defects in the molar region due to malocclusion-induced trauma. They report the 7-year treatment outcomes of the patient after periodontal regenerative and comprehensive orthodontic therapies for functional recovery with implant prosthodontics.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 56-year-old woman sought
