Induction of apoptosis by ethanol extract of sapodilla leaf in HGT-1 cells involved caspase-independent signal transduction pathway and activation of Nrf2/HO-1.

Gastric cancer has become one of the most common cancers globally. Sapodilla or known as Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen, has been traditionally applied for cough, cold, and diarrhea. The detailed mechanisms in modulating sapodilla leaf 70% ethanol extract against HGT-1 human gastric cancer cell line have yet to be fully studied. Apoptosis induction was evaluated using an Annexin V-FITC/PI staining kit with flow cytometry. Caspase-3 and -8 expression were determined by colorimetric analysis. To explore the molecular mechanisms of action of the 70% ethanol extract of sapodilla leaves in HGT-1 ce

Novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying anti-nociceptive effect of myricitrin against reserpine-induced fibromyalgia model in rats: Implication of SIRT1 and miRNAs.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen, also termed sapodilla or chikoo, is a significant plant in ethnomedicine because of its long history of traditional medical applications. In diverse cultures, sapodilla is believed to protect against oxidative stress, inflammation, and some chronic diseases because of its high antioxidant content. The naturally occurring antioxidant myricitrin (MYR) flavonoid is primarily found in the leaves and other plant parts of sapodilla and it is well-known for having therapeutic qualities and possible health advantages. AIM OF THE STUDY: T

Combined Effect of Operating Parameters and Nanoparticles on the Performance of a Diesel Engine: Response Surface Methodology-Coupled Genetic Algorithm Approach.

This paper's goal is to ascertain the optimum input parameters and nanoparticle concentrations for least emission and better performance by utilizing the genetic algorithm (GA) and response surface methodology (RSM) in a single-cylinder diesel engine running with 20% blend of biodiesel derived from Manilkara zapota seeds. Experiments to be conducted on the engine were designed with a central composite design (CCD) with input parameters of loads (20-100%), nanoparticle concentrations (NPCs, 0-80 ppm), compression ratios (CRs, 16.5-18.1), injection pressures (IPs, 190-230 bar), and injection tim

Comparative analysis of the performance and emissions of a multi-cylinder diesel engine using biodiesel from underutilized feedstocks.

In this work, an RSM-based DOE approach was adopted to investigate and perform a comparative study on the performance and emission characteristics of a multi-cylinder transportation-type diesel engine running at variable speeds using 20% biodiesel blends of Manilkara zapota (MZME), Bauhinia variegata (BVME), Karanja (KME), and Simarouba (SME). The powerful desirability-based optimization technique was used to optimize system performance while reducing emissions, thereby meeting the demands of sustainable energy targets and stricter environmental regulations. To further validate the effectivene

Pharmacological and computational evaluation of Sapodilla and its constituents for therapeutic potential in hyperactive gastrointestinal disorders.

OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate various gastrointestinal effects of Manilkara zapota (Sapodilla), exploring its anti-diarrheal, anti-secretary, anti-spasmodic, anti-ulcer and anti-motility potential. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Antidiarrheal and anti-secretary activities were investigated using castor oil induced diarrhea and castor oil induced fluid accumulation. Isolated rabbit jejunum tissues (antispasmodic) were employed for in vitro experiments. Antiulcer, antimotility and molecular docking were performed using ethanol-HCl induced ulcer assay, charcoal meal transit time and

Concentration-driven structural evolution and enhanced photoluminescence dynamics in Ho3+-activated SrMoO4 nanophosphors.

Rare-earth-activated molybdate phosphors have attracted considerable interest because of their tunable structural and luminescence properties for photonic applications. In this work, Ho3+-doped SrMoO4 nanoparticles were synthesized through a controlled hydrothermal method employing Chikku (Manilkara zapota) leaf extract as a plant-derived processing additive. Structural characterization revealed the formation of a phase-pure tetragonal scheelite SrMoO4 structure for all investigated Ho3+ concentrations, with no detectable secondary crystalline phases. The observed structural changes are consis

Excellent photocatalytic and antibacterial activities of bio-activated carbon decorated magnesium oxide nanoparticles.

Green production of nanomaterials are restrict toxic substances and motivated the noxious free environment. Photocatalysis and antibacterial resistance are more promising and efficient fields for their chemical reductants and clean environment. Herein, we adopted a green and simple method for the biosynthesis of MgO NPs using Manilkara zapota as a bio source. Recently, the green synthesis of magnesium oxide nanoparticles has been a keen interest amongst researchers and scientists due to its simplicity eco-friendliness, non-toxic, inexpensive and potential to perform as an antibacterial agent.

Anastrepha ludens and Anastrepha serpentina (Diptera: Tephritidae) do not infest Psidium guajava (Myrtaceae), but Anastrepha obliqua occasionally shares this resource with Anastrepha striata in nature.

This study examined whether economically important fruit fly species Anastrepha ludens (Loew), Anastrepha serpentina (Wiedemann), and Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) (Diptera: Tephritidae) may opportunistically exploit guavas, Psidium guajava L. (Myrtaceae), growing near preferred natural hosts. We collected 3,459 kg of guavas and 895 kg of other known host species [sour orange, Citrus aurantium L.; grapefruit, Citrus paradisi Macfadyen; mango, Mangifera indica L.; white sapote, Casimiroa edulis La Llave and Lex.; sapote, Pouteria sapota (Jacq.); sapodilla, Manilkara zapota L.; and wild plum, Sp

Plant Antimicrobial Peptides as Potential Tool for Topic Treatment of Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Among chronic skin autoinflammatory diseases, Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) stands out for its chronicity, highly variable condition, and profound impact on the patients' quality of life. HS is characterized by suppurative skin lesions in diverse body areas, including deep-seated painful nodules, abscesses, draining sinus, and bridged scars, among others, with typical topography. To date, HS is considered a refractory disease and medical treatments aim to reduce the incidence, the infection, and the pain of the lesions. For this purpose, different classes of drugs, including anti-inflammatory
