A 58-year-old woman with a 2-month history of atypical chest pain was referred to the chest pain clinic by the general practitioner. Exercise stress test was positive and subsequent coronary angiogram revealed significant triple vessel disease with left ventricular impairment requiring a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). The patient had a chest X-ray as part of the preoperative work up. Chest X-ray revealed a large anterior mediastinal mass. Subsequent thorax CT revealed a 7.2 cm anterior mediastinal mass. CT-guided biopsy of the mass revealed the diagnosis of a poorly differentiated thymic

Although tuberculosis is preventable, whom to prioritize for preventive interventions is debated. As part of a follow-up to a mass tuberculosis screening, we aimed to evaluate tuberculosis incidence among persons with distinct baseline X-ray results. From March to October 2020, we implemented a mass tuberculosis screening intervention among elderly persons in eastern China. Participants were followed for incident tuberculosis until October 2022. Tuberculosis incidence over two years among participants with differing baseline chest X-ray results were assessed. Physical examinations and X-rays w

A 45-year-old woman with multiple pulmonary leiomyomatous hamartoma was reported. Multiple round shadows were observed in the chest X-ray film of mass examination. Retrospectively chest X-ray films revealed an increase in size and number of pulmonary nodules in three years. Metastatic pulmonary tumors were suspected. Primary site was unclear. Calcified myoma uteri was recognized. The pathological diagnosis under diagnostic thoracotomy was multiple leiomyomatous hamartoma. After ten months of medical castration using superactive analogue of LHRH (buserelin) by intranasal spray, chest X-ray film

The case of a patient admitted to the hospital for symptoms characterized by chest pain, productive cough, fever, dyspnea resistant to antibiotic therapy is discussed. Previous plain chest X-ray performed elsewhere was suggestive of inflammotory lung consolidation. An admission chest X-ray revealed a left lower lobe density. On chest CT-angiography a lobulated mass in the posterior basal segment of the left lower lobe was visualized: the diagnosis of intralobar pulmonary sequestration (ILPS) was hypothesized.

A patient with pulmonary pseudolymphoma whose chest X-ray shadows could be observed for over five years is reported. A 73-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in March 1993, because of abnormal shadows on a chest X-ray film. There was a solitary mass in the left upper lung field and infiltrate in the right middle and lower lung fields. These shadows had been observed on a chest X-ray film in 1988, and had been gradually growing for more than five years. Transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) of the left upper lobe mass resulted in a histological diagnosis of pulmonary pseudolymphoma. The shado

A 24-year-old man was admitted to our hospital in June 1996 with complaints of anterior chest discomfort. Chest X-ray films on admission showed an abnormal mediastinal shadow with well-defined margin. Chest X-ray examinations about 6 weeks earlier had not detected any abnormalities. Laboratory tests on admission showed a high serum concentration of Siaryl Lewis X-i antigen (SLX). A computed tomographic scan of the chest showed a large (6 x 6 x 12 cm) homogeneous mass in the right anterior mediastinum. The mass was removed completely and histologically diagnosed as a thymic cyst. Biochemical an

A 36-year-old man presented with malaise, myalgia, fever, and weight loss. Liver function tests were moderately abnormal and chest x-ray film revealed an irregular mass in the right lower lobe. Bronchoscopy with cytology was not helpful. Serology revealed markedly elevated titers to Q fever. The mass was presumed to represent the presence of a Q fever pseudotumor. The patient responded to therapy with resolution of symptoms and chest x-ray film and decrease in titers to Q fever.

Pericardial cysts are rare benign congenital malformations, usually small, asymptomatic and detected incidentally on chest X-ray as a mass located in the right costophrenic angle. Giant pericardial cysts are very uncommon and produce symptoms by compressing adjacent structures. In this report, the authors present a case of a symptomatic giant pericardial cyst incorrectly diagnosed as dextrocardia on chest X-ray.

A 71-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital for evaluation of a chest X-ray abnormality. Heart murmur was not heard. Chest X-ray showed a bulge with calcification at left third arch. Chest computed tomography revealed contrast enhancement of masses, which appeared to originate from the vascular system. Coronary angiography demonstrated multicystic aneurysmal dilatation of a coronary artery fistula originating from the proximal left descending and right coronary artery. Electrocardiography showed no remarkable findings and a treadmill exercise test showed no significant ST-T change. The si

We are presenting an adult patient with a rare form of renal ectopy. Our patient had a thoracic kidney with complications. He presented with symptoms unrelated to the urinary system and his chest x-ray showed an intrathoracic mass presenting just above the diaphragm. An excretory urogram may be necessary for the diagnosis in such patients with similar chest x-ray findings.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: We present a case of fast-growing, recurrent orbital mass which was ultimately diagnosed as sarcoidosis in a patient who lacked systemic symptoms.
METHODS: A case report was conducted.
RESULTS: A 58-year-old woman from Pakistan presented with a ortbial mass that is hyperintense orbital mass on MRI. Excisional biopsy and pathology revealed non-necrotizing granulomatous inflammation. Negative AFB culture, GMS, and flow cytometry ruled out TB and lymphoma. Chest X-ray was unremarkable. ACE and Lysozyme levels were marginally elevated. She presented with symptomatic recurrenc

«Mobile miniature X-ray evaluation and pneumoconiosis: the role of the Clinica del Lavoro in Milan (1941-1948)». Since the end of the 19th century, X-rays have been used to detect lung diseases. In Italy, 207,096 miniature chest radiographs were taken from 1941 to 1948. Traditional radiographs gave better results, but miniature chest radiographs were useful for screening. Indeed, the development of mobile miniature chest radiography units resulted in an improvement in mass X-rays screening for the detection of penumoconiosis. These mobile miniature units were mounted on a bus chassis, a soluti

A 28 year old Ethiopian male who presented with recurrent haemoptysis, fever, and multiple well defined masses on a chest x-ray and subsequently responded to treatment with albendazole is reported. Complete remission of the symptoms and improvement of chest x-ray findings was attained within 2 months of initiation of treatment. The unusual presentation of pulmonary hydatid cyst and the response to pharmacotherapy is briefly reviewed.

A patient of 30 year-old male with a bronchogenic cyst in the mediastinum detected as an incidental finding on a routine chest X-ray is presented. Laboratory examinations did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Chest X-ray and TAC revealed the mass lesion with smooth margen, low density and homogeneous at the middle mediastinum. Treatment consisted in the resection of the cyst by left thoracic approach. Histologically, the lesion was typical a bronchogenic cyst.

INTRODUCTION: Mediastinal teratomas are rare in children. Nevertheless, they represent the most frequent mediastinal germ cell tumor. Most often, they are discovered incidentally in older children or adolescents on chest X-ray. There are other signs of discovery but less frequent: chest pain, hemoptysis and signs of mediastinal compression. Rupture into pleural space, pericardium or tracheobronchial tree are exceptional.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of 7-years old girl admitted for chest pain. The chest x-ray showed a mediastinal mass with calcifications and pleural effusion. Chest C

We report two cases of intrathoracic Castleman disease presenting with paraneoplastic syndrome. Patient 1 was a 10-year-old girl with short stature. She was found to have delayed bone age, slow growth velocity, and iron-deficiency anemia, which was refractory to treatment. Thrombocytosis and hypergammaglobulinemia were later detected. Chest X-ray revealed a hilar mass. Patient 2 was a 14-year-old boy who had severe cough, progressive mucocutaneous erosion, and dermatitis. Chest X-ray showed a mediastinal mass. Sections of skin biopsy showed findings consistent with pemphigus disease. In each c

A 30-year-old woman presented with progressive dyspnea on exertion and a rapidly-growing uterine mass. Chest x-ray examination revealed a miliary interstitial nodular pattern in both lung fields. Transbronchial biopsy yielded lung tissue containing multiple nodules of smooth muscle, consistent with benign metastasizing leiomyoma. Subsequent hysterectomy revealed an atypical cellular leiomyoma. We wish to emphasize the need for chest x-ray examination in the workup of uterine tumors in women of reproductive age.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic aortic aneurysm is an increasingly recognized condition that is sometimes diagnosed incidentally on imaging examinations performed to evaluate other unrelated conditions. Symptomatic presentations of thoracic aortic aneurysms may be due to mass effect on the airway, esophagus, recurrent laryngeal nerve and the thoracic spine. Alternatively, they may present with the dreaded complication of aortic dissection or rupture.Occasionally abnormalities of the aortic contour or size can be detected on routine chest x-ray. However, it is difficult to confidently diagnose thoracic ao

A case of a 51-year-old man admitted to the hospital for hemoptysis after a three-week history of fever and cough is presented. The chest x-ray film revealed consolidation in the left upper lobe. Because microbiologic studies of the bronchial lavage showed the grew of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the patient was treated with piperacilline and pefloxacin. Haemoptysis and abnormal temperature was persistent for several days. Revaluation of the chest x-ray permitted to discover a little calcified nodule of 1 mm diameter. CT scan of the thorax confirmed the consolidation of the left upper lobe and the

In this study, we report a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis in a patient presenting respiratory symptoms and a lung mass on the chest X-ray. The patient had no concomitant diseases, was seronegative for human immunodeficiency virus and was not receiving immunosuppressive therapy of any kind. The diagnosis was confirmed through transbronchial biopsy and bronchoalveolar lavage. The patient was treated as an outpatient with fluconazole (300 mg/day for six months), evolving to clinical improvement and partial regression of the lung mass, as seen on a second chest X-ray. The current case illustrate
