Intracanalicular meningiomas are extremely rare and difficult to differentiate from intracanalicular vestibular schwannomas. We report an unusual case of a posterior fossa meningioma in the proximal internal auditory canal that was originally diagnosed as a vestibular schwannoma due to its appearance on magnetic resonance imaging. However, closer inspection of the preoperative neuroimages revealed features inconsistent with vestibular schwannoma that suggested the possibility of other less common lesions.

Single meningiomas are histologically classified as benign tumors, but clearly malignant types have been encountered. The standard mode of management is total macroscopic removal with excision of the dural attachment and abnormal bone, if there is any. Despite this aggressive surgery, recurrence rates of approximately 9% have been reported with the removal of benign tumors, and the rate is much higher with the removal of malignant meningiomas. Recurrence most frequently occurs at the original tumor site and is most often explained by incomplete removal, which, in turn, is a function of the ana

We studied six cases of intracranial meningioma with cyst formation. Manifestations included focal neurologic signs (four cases), seizures (three cases), headache (three cases), and personality changes (two cases). CT revealed a cystic enhancing supratentorial lesion in five cases. Angiographic changes of meningioma were observed in only three cases, and correct preoperative diagnosis was made in only half the cases so studied. Histologically, all lesions were syncytial meningiomas. Cyst fluid was always xanthochromic, acellular, and highly proteinaceous. The variety of anatomic configurations

Intracranial tumors are accidentally discovered during operations for neurosurgical diseases, such as head trauma or cerebral aneurysm. Furthermore, in the autopsy specimen, intracranial tumors which had not been recognized before the patient's life are sometimes found incidentally. Those tumors are; meningioma, glioma, pituitary adenoma, and so forth. Among these instances, meningioma seems to be the most frequent. In this paper, the authors discussed five cases of asymptomatic meningiomas found unexpectedly, referred as "Incidental Meningioma." Incidental meningioma listed up here are five o

A case of meningioma appearing to arise from the stellate ganglion and associated with a unilateral Horner syndrome of long standing is presented. Clinical absence of central nervous system involvement and a normal computerized tomographic scan of the brain favor the neoplasm as being a primary extracranial meningioma. Light and electron microscopy showed characteristic structural features. A brief review of the literature is made, and theories concerning the origin of extracranial primary meningioma are presented.

Meningiomas combined with meningioangiomatosis (MA-M) present similarly to more invasive lesions because of their appearance on neuroimaging. These lesions are especially rare in pediatric patients and suggestive imaging can help identify them for differential diagnosis. An 11-year-old male child who presented with diplopia and a headache was found to have an edematous invasive appearing temporal lobe mass on magnetic resonance imaging. Despite the lesion's appearance, it was completely resected and found to be a benign MA-M upon histopathologic examination. The present case demonstrated a rar

BACKGROUND: Clear-cell meningioma is a rare subtype, representing 0.2-0.8% of all meningiomas. It is classified as grade 2 according to World Health Organization (WHO) classification due to its aggressive clinical course. Morphologically, it can mimic other clear-cell tumors arising in the central nervous system, each having different clinical behavior, therapeutic protocol, and prognostic outcome.
AIM: This study aims to describe clinicopathological characteristics of clear-cell meningioma and to discuss the histomorphological features and differential diagnosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The

Meningiomas arise in various locations. Convexity tumors are relatively simple to remove. Skull base tumors and tumors adjacent to the major cerebral veins and venous sinuses can be very difficult to extirpate. Attempts at radical resection can lead to serious morbidity. The combination of bulk reduction using microsurgery followed by GKNS gives greatly improved survival and very low morbidity. With smaller tumors, GKNS may be used as the primary treatment. Increasing numbers of asymptomatic meningiomas are demonstrated either as an unexpected finding or as a residual or recurrent tumor after

More than one-third of patients with meningiomas will experience seizures at some point in their disease. Despite this, meningioma-associated epilepsy remains significantly understudied, as most investigations focus on tumor progression, extent of resection, and survival. Due to the impact of epilepsy on the patient's quality of life, identifying predictors of preoperative seizures and postoperative seizure freedom is critical. In this chapter, we review previously reported rates and predictors of seizures in meningioma and discuss surgical and medical treatment options. Preoperative epilepsy

Meningiomas are one of the most frequent primary intracranial tumours, representing one-third of all intracranialneoplasms. The vast majority of meningiomas are histologically benign, but recurrence and progression is quite frequent. They occur usually between the 6th and 7th decade, the female/male ratio is 3:2. Although rare in pregnancy, when occurring, they can cause serious, life-threatening complications due to rapid growth and unfavourable localisation. There are two dominant hypothesis explaining rapid growth in pregnancy: the role of hormonal effects and hemodynamic changes. Several s

Meningiomas are slow-growing benign tumors believed to originate from arachnoidal cap cells. This article discusses the surgical approaches for resection, especially the transnasal endoscopic approach. Alternative treatment options are primarily used where patients are not surgical candidates or location of recurrence precludes additional surgery. These options include radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and chemotherapy. In addition, we discuss the current on going research in molecular targeting agents for meningioma treatment.

The long-term or delayed side effects of irradiation on neural tissue are now known to include the induction of new central nervous system neoplasms. However, during the first half of the 20th century, human neural tissue was generally considered relatively resistant to the carcinogenic and other ill effects of ionizing radiation. As a result, exposure to relatively high doses of x-rays from diagnostic examinations and therapeutic treatment was common. In the present article the authors review the literature relating to radiation-induced meningiomas (RIMs). Emphasis is placed on meningiomas re

Rhabdoid meningioma is a rare variant of meningioma, often found in tumour recurrences. We report a 55-year-old woman with a history of intraventricular fibroblastic meningioma, who developed headache and tinnitus 5 years after complete resection of the initial tumour. Imaging confirmed a recurrent tumour in the intraventricular location. Histological analysis revealed rhabdoid meningioma. We reviewed the literature and were unable to find any previously reported cases of intraventricular rhabdoid meningioma.

Primary ectopic meningiomas are rare. A case of a 16-year-old male who presented with a large mass in temporofrontal region is reported. X-ray skull showed soft tissue shadow with hyperostosis of frontal and temporal bone. CT scan of brain demonstrated a markedly enhancing lesion and bony hyperostosis with no intracranial component. Total excision of tumour with hyperostotic bone was done. Patient is well without any evidence of recurrence two years after surgery. Relevant literature is reviewed.

A 73-year-old man committed suicide by placing a plastic bag over his head. At autopsy, a large meningioma of the frontal lobe of the brain was found. It is believed that the tumor contributed to death by its direct effect on the brain, causing depression. This article illustrates a relationship between disease, depression, and suicide and offers a brief review of the literature concerning this relationship.

A 47-year-old woman presented with a 6-month history of progressive dizzy spells and occasional impairment of vision. Cranial computerized tomographic (CT) scan showed a calcified mass in the atrium of the left lateral ventricle, densely enhanced after intravenous administration of contrast material. Left carotid and vertebral angiograms demonstrated that the feeders of the tumor were coming from the left anterior choroidal and left lateral posterior choroidal arteries, both of which showed dilatation and neovascularity. The CT and angiographic findings led to successful removal of the tumor w

Meningiomas account for approximately one-fourth of all primary central nervous system tumour, arising from arachnoidal cells surrounding brain and spinal cord. They usually affect older adults, particularly women. Ninety percent of meningiomas are slow growing benign tumours. Meningiomas are revealed by various symptoms including neurologic deficits and epileptic seizures. Surgery remains the treatment of choice. Fractionated radiotherapy or stereotactic radiosurgery are used for meningiomas that are recurrent, surgically inacessible, partially excised and either atypical or malignant. Most m
