BACKGROUND: Clear aligner therapy has become increasingly common for extraction cases, yet achieving controlled bodily mesialization of posterior teeth remains challenging, particularly in moderate anchorage situations. Clinical experience suggests that aligners often cause molar tipping and loss of anchorage, but few studies have quantified this problem under realistic clinical conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the predictability of posterior tooth movement with Invisalign in moderate anchorage cases and to compare the performance of different attachment designs.

INTRODUCTION: This study aims to analyze the impact of varying initial positions of the mandibular first molar and attachment configurations on tooth movement by finite element analysis (FEA).
METHODS: A three-dimensional (3D) model was constructed, including the mandible, dentition, periodontal ligaments (PDLs), clear aligners (CAs), and attachments. The second molar was initially positioned 3.2 mm distally. Groups were defined as follows: no attachment, attachment on the second molar (second molar ATT), and attachment on the first molar (first molar ATT). In each group, the first molar's in

We report the orthodontic treatment of a woman who was congenitally missing teeth 15, 47, and 48. A titanium miniplate was used as anchorage to close the space of the missing premolar by mesial movement of the maxillary posterior teeth into the space of tooth 15. Teeth 16 and 17 were moved 7.4mm mesially, until the proximal contact of tooth 16 with tooth 14 was detected clinically. Good esthetic and dental results were achieved after 34 months of active treatment. Miniplates can be used as orthodontic anchorage to move maxillary molars forward.

The aim of this study was to examine the positions of newly erupted lower permanent incisors and their relationship to crowding. Forty-one crowded and 37 uncrowded dental casts of children in the early mixed dentition were examined by means of digitization using a reflex microscope. Two aspects of alignment were considered: rotation and labio-lingual displacement. Rotations of the incisors were defined as deviations from 'ideal' predicted angles. Displacement of the incisors was measured as the distance between the most labial and most lingually placed incisors. The study showed an increase in

This case report refers to an 11-year-old boy with avulsion of the upper left central and lateral incisors. The teeth were replanted after 4 h, splinted with a semi-rigid splint for 12 days, and then endodontically treated. Severe progressive root resorption was seen after 2 years and the teeth were extracted. The boy had a normal occlusion with spacing in both jaws and slight protrusion of the anterior teeth. The treatment objectives were to close some of the spaces by mesial movement of the buccal segments in the upper jaw to minimize bone loss for a future single osseointegrated implant. Fi

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the biomechanics of maxillary dentition, specifically displacement patterns, midline deviation, and stress distribution of the first molar and anchorage teeth during first molar mesialization using clear aligners (CA) assisted by temporary anchorage devices (TADs) combined with different auxiliary attachments, including buccal buttons, aligner-based angel buttons and power arms. METHODS: Finite element models of the CA, micro-implants, maxillary teeth, periodontal ligament (PDL), and alveolar bone were constructed. Four finite element models were sim

BACKGROUND: Vertical maxillary excess (VME) is one of the most common reasons for seeking orthodontic treatment. Total intrusion with aligners is a promising alternative to surgery in some cases. Considering the elastic deformation of aligners, this study aimed to evaluate the possible desirable and undesirable teeth displacements during full maxillary arch intrusion using clear aligners and temporary anchorage devices (TADs).
METHODS: The maxillary arch and clear aligners were modeled in SolidWorks. Four aligner brands including Leon, Duran, Duran Plus, and Essix Plus were selected based on

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the efficiency of anchorage provided by temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in maxillary bicuspid extraction cases during retraction of the anterior teeth using a fixed appliance.
METHODS: Patients aged 12 to 50 years with malocclusion for which bilateral first or second maxillary bicuspid extractions were indicated were included in the study and randomly allocated to the TAD or control groups. Retraction of the anterior teeth was achieved using skeletal anchorage in the TAD group and conventional dental anchorage in the control group. A computed tomography (CT)

This report describes the treatment of a 20-year-old woman with a dental midline deviation and 7 congenitally missing premolars. She had retained a maxillary right deciduous canine and 4 deciduous second molars, and she had an impacted maxillary right third molar. The maxillary right deciduous second molar was extracted, and the space was nearly closed by mesial movement of the maxillary right molars using an edgewise appliance and a miniscrew for absolute anchorage. The miniscrew was removed, and the extraction space of the maxillary right deciduous canine was closed, correcting the dental mi

In the orthodontic practice, the first or second molars are extracted by reason of a necessity based on the treatment planning. In these cases, it is desirable that the third molar would be taken part in the masticatory function. This study was made to investigate the natural movement of the erupting third molars after the extraction of the first or second molar on the serial lateral cephalometric radiographs and orthopantomographs. Subjects were divided into three groups. The first is the group which the mandibular second molars were extracted. The second is the group which the first molars w

The natural mechanisms of eruption, mesial migration, soft tissue pressure and occlusal forces can be used by the dentist to treat malocclusion in the growing child. The author describes how planned extractions of deciduous and permanent teeth can be employed to resolve crowding, promote spontaneous alignment, and avoid centreline displacement.

BACKGROUND: Nowadays, mini screws are used in orthodontic tooth movement to obtain maximum or absolute anchorage. They have gained popularity among orthodontists for en masse retraction of anterior teeth after first premolar extraction in maximum anchorage cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of anterior tooth movement during the time when force was applied from different mini screw placements to the anterior power arm with various heights.
METHODS: A finite element method was used for modeling maxillary teeth and bone structure. Brackets, wire, and hooks were also desig

The normal arrangement of the transseptal fibers in the dentition is one of a completely horizontal system that links the mesial and the distal aspects of each tooth within the dental arch, from the most distal tooth of one side to the most distal tooth of the other, across the midline. This continuous fiber band is parallel to the occlusal plane, being attached to each tooth coronal to the level of the interradicular alveolar bone crest and apical to the cementoenamel junction. Alteration of the occlusal plane will be mirrored by a similar change in the plane of the transseptal fiber system.

Dental casts of 243 preschool children, 129 males and 114 females, aged 2.5-5.5 years, were analysed for the presence of interdental spaces, mesiodistal crown diameters, intercanine width, intermolar width and arch length (circumference). The prevalence of primate spaces (diastemata mesial to the upper canines and distal to the lowers) varied from 65 to 90% by arch and sex; it was lowest in the lower arch especially in females, and highest in the upper. These prevalences did not increase with age; however, other spaces which usually occur between incisors may develop towards the end of the dec

Welcome preparation (to create space), surgical exposure and attachment to the impacted tooth and the orthodontic guidance for the eruption of the impacted tooth. Sometimes, due to deficiency of space, creation of space for impacted tooth requires first, and space regaining efforts may require the distal movement of posterior teeth and or mesial movement of anterior teeth in the arch, but it may create some problems. To overcome the unwanted problem in this clinical situation and to reduce overall treatment duration of the patient, we have developed the Simultaneous space creation, Eruption an

The aim of this trial was to evaluate whether a Nance or Goshgarian palatal arch was most effective for prevention of mesial drift, distal tipping, prevention of mesio-palatal rotation of the upper first permanent molars, and patient comfort and ease of removal. Patients were recruited from a district general hospital and a specialist orthodontic practice and randomly allocated to a Goshgarian (n = 29) or a Nance (n = 28) group. Pre-treatment study models (T1) were taken followed by the placement of the palatal arch, premolar extractions, and upper and lower fixed appliances. The clinical end

BACKGROUND: Mesial protraction of mandibular posterior teeth requires increased anchorage to avoid undesired tooth movements. Orthodontic mini-implants have become a popular and successful way to increase skeletal anchorage in such cases. However, mini-implants may cause injury to adjacent teeth or anatomical structures and may lead to tissue inflammation. Induced ankylosed primary teeth have been used in the past as abutments for the protraction of the maxilla in cases of maxillary retrognathism. However, this technique has not been described in the literature for the protraction of mandibula
