BACKGROUND: Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy requires 2 years of follow-up for living kidney donors (LKDs); however, many transplant hospitals struggle to meet this requirement. We developed and tested a mobile health (mHealth) system for LKD follow-up in a pilot randomized-controlled trial (RCT).
METHODS: LKDs were randomly assigned to either the intervention (mHealth + standard of care) or control arm (standard of care). We assessed OPTN policy-defined completeness and timeliness of 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year follow-ups. Four hundred LKDs were enrolled in the stu

OBJECTIVE: To test whether parents of premature infants less than 37 weeks of gestation provided with a unique smartphone app designed to support parents had greater parenting self-efficacy, a key element in parenting confidence, compared with controls.
STUDY DESIGN: Using a quasiexperimental, time-lagged study design, parents were assigned to either usual care (control) or NICU2HOME app (intervention) groups. Both groups completed the validated Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale at 4 time points (approximately day of life 7, 1 day before discharge, and at 14 and 30 days after dischar

The use of mobile health (mHealth) technology has the potential to enhance maternal and child health care, particularly in low-income countries. However, evidence regarding its practicality and effectiveness remains limited. In Ethiopia, research on health workers' intention to adopt mHealth technology for maternal health services is notably scarce, emphasizing the need for thoughtful evaluation and further studies to explore its real-world application. This study aims to assess the intention of primary health care unit workers towards using mobile health technology in antenatal care services

Rural populations face distinctive challenges that may hinder their ability to access health services, including speech-language pathology and audiology. To address this, our speech-language pathology program partnered with local agencies and traveled to neighboring rural communities to provide speech and hearing services in central Pennsylvania for a minimal investment.

INTRODUCTION: Military recruitment and retention efforts are significantly challenging due to a limited pool of qualified candidates and increasing competition from private industries. Before attending Navy basic training, all non-prior service enlistees enter the Navy's Delayed Entry Program (DEP), which is designed to help recruiters prepare Future Sailors (FS) for military life. Mobile health (mHealth) applications (apps), such as CoachMePlus (CM+), may assist recruiters in enhancing FS readiness. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness, usability, and impact of an mHeal

BACKGROUND: Case investigation and contact tracing are core public health activities used to interrupt disease transmission. These activities are traditionally conducted manually. During periods of high COVID-19 incidence, US health departments were unable to scale up case management staff to deliver effective and timely contact-tracing services. In response, digital contact tracing (DCT) apps for mobile phones were introduced to automate these activities. DCT apps detect when other DCT users are close enough to transmit COVID-19 and enable alerts to notify users of potential disease exposure.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic revealed health disparities and disproportionate adverse health outcomes among Arizona's Hispanic population. Structural barriers and social determinants of health that Hispanics face are important determinants of vaccine access and uptake. The Arizona Vaccine Confidence Network (AzVCN) leveraged the expertise of the Arizona Prevention Research Center (AzPRC) and the resources of the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) Mobile Health Unit (MHU) to identify, implement and evaluate a MHU intervention to increase uptake of COVID-19 testing an

BACKGROUND: Black women experience higher rates of adverse sexual and reproductive health and HIV outcomes, however the use of mHealth to address these health disparities in this population has been inadequate. This study involved a one-month pre-test with Black women living in metro-Atlanta to evaluate the usability, acceptability, and engagement of an HIV prevention app SavvyHER.
METHODS: An explanatory mixed-methods design was employed in which quantitative data was collected through weekly cross-sectional surveys, and qualitative data was collected through semi-structured in-depth intervi

OBJECTIVE: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin condition affecting both mental and physical health. Although research has shown reduced physical activity levels among patients with AD, there is a scarcity of studies examining baseline mobility, which refers to the standard level of functional ambulation or movement capability. We analyzed the relationship between AD and baseline mobility among U.S. adults ages 20 to 59, utilizing the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).
METHODS: We merged three, 2-year cycles of NHANEs data (2001-2006). Patients were categoriz

BACKGROUND: Patients who require intensive care unit (ICU) care frequently develop hospital-acquired functional decline, defined as a new or worsening loss of ability to perform self-care activities that is associated with prolonged immobility. This morbidity may persist for months to years after hospitalization but is potentially preventable through initiating mobility in the ICU using a multidisciplinary, evidence-based intervention to maintain functional status. While guidelines for ICU physical activity exist, timely identification of patients suitable for activity interventions is an ongo

BACKGROUND: Mobile mammography can be useful in reaching medically underserved women. However, it is not known whether self-referral for mobile mammography is the best approach for reaching the most vulnerable populations.
OBJECTIVES: 1) To describe the community outreach patterns of a county-sponsored mobile mammography unit, 2) To characterize the follow-up patterns for women with abnormal screening mammograms, and 3) to identify reasons why women screened on mobile units seek follow-up care outside of the safety-net system.
METHODS: We prospectively followed women aged > or = 40 years who

Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU), a local NGO, introduced subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC, brand name Sayana Press) in 4 districts of Uganda between April 2016 and March 2017. RHU trained public and private facility providers on all family planning methods including DMPA-SC; trained community health workers (known as village health teams, VHTs) to give family planning counseling, provide short-acting methods including DMPA-SC, and make referrals for long-acting and permanent methods; conducted mobile outreach and raised awareness of family planning; and provided family

INTRODUCTION: Although breast cancer deaths have declined, the mortality rate among women from medically underserved communities is disproportionally high. Screening mammography is the most effective tool for detecting breast cancer in its early stages, yet many women from medically underserved communities do not have adequate access to screening mammograms. Mobile mammography may be able to bridge this gap by providing screening mammograms at no cost or low cost and delivering services to women in their own neighborhoods, thus eliminating cost and transportation barriers. The objective of thi

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the utility of a broad and nonspecific symptom screen for identifying people with undiagnosed HIV infection.
DESIGN: Secondary analysis of operational data collected during implementation of a cluster-randomized trial for tuberculosis case detection.
METHODS: As part of the trial, adults reporting cough, fever, night sweats, weight loss, or difficulty breathing for any duration in the past month were identified in health facilities and community-based mobile screening units in western Kenya. Adults reporting any symptom were offered HIV testing. We analysed the HIV tes

Mobile health units are increasingly utilized to address barriers to mammography screening. Despite the existence of mobile mammography outreach throughout the US, there is a paucity of data describing the populations served by mobile units and the ability of these programs to reach underserved populations, address disparities, and report on outcomes of screening performance. To evaluate the association of variables associated with outcomes for women undergoing breast cancer screening and clinical evaluation on a mobile unit. Retrospective analysis of women undergoing mammography screening dur
