Enhancing Patient Education on Cardiovascular Rehabilitation with Large Language Models.

INTRODUCTION: There are barriers that exist for individuals to adhere to cardiovascular rehabilitation programs. A key driver to patient adherence is appropriately educating patients. A growing education tool is using large language models to answer patient questions. METHODS: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the readability quality of educational responses provided by large language models for questions regarding cardiac rehabilitation using Gunning Fog, Flesh Kincaid, and Flesch Reading Ease scores. RESULTS: The findings of this study demonstrate that the mean Gunning Fo

Construction of lumped-parameter cardiovascular models using the CellML language.

Lumped-parameter models are widely used by cardiovascular researchers in the analysis of the circulatory dynamics. However, portability and model exchange have always been a problem, with different researchers implement the model differently. To improve the situation, in this study, a group of lumped-parameter cardiovascular system models with different levels of complexity have been implemented using the CellML mark-up language. The models have been curated and made publicly available in the CellML model repository, and the purpose of this paper is to provide further technical details to supp

Cardiovascular models for personalised medicine: Where now and where next?

The aim of this position paper is to provide a brief overview of the current status of cardiovascular modelling and of the processes required and some of the challenges to be addressed to see wider exploitation in both personal health management and clinical practice. In most branches of engineering the concept of the digital twin, informed by extensive and continuous monitoring and coupled with robust data assimilation and simulation techniques, is gaining traction: the Gartner Group listed it as one of the top ten digital trends in 2018. The cardiovascular modelling community is starting to

Sex-specific cardiovascular responses in cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis models.

Cardiovascular (CV) dysfunction is common in severe acute pancreatitis (AP) and contributes substantially to mortality. Although sex differences in CV diseases are well recognized, with males generally exhibiting higher risk and poorer outcomes, their influence on AP-associated CV responses remains poorly defined. Here, we examined sex-dependent alterations in vascular integrity and cardiac function using cerulein-induced mouse models of AP. Because obesity is associated with more severe forms of AP, cerulein was used to induce mild AP in lean wild-type C57BL/6J mice and a more severe phenotyp

Cardiovascular risk-prediction models in cancer survivors: a meta-analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis included 34 studies encompassing 983 438 adult cancer survivors and evaluated the performance of both general-population and cancer-specific cardiovascular risk-prediction models across vascular events, cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction or heart failure, arrhythmias, and composite cardiovascular event outcomes. In total, 27 unique risk scores were assessed. Approximately one-third of model-outcome evaluations demonstrated acceptable-to-good discrimination, defined as an area under the curve of ≥0.70. Among general-population models, four risk s

Murine models of cardiovascular comorbidity in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Currently, COPD patients with atherosclerosis (i.e., the most important underlying cause of CVD) receive COPD therapy complemented with standard CVD therapy. This may, however, not be the most optimal treatment. To investigate the link between COPD and atherosclerosis and to develop specific therapeutic strategies for COPD patients with atherosclerosis, a substantial number of preclinical studies using murine models have been performed. In this review, we summarize the currently

Preclinical models for Chlamydia pneumoniae and cardiovascular disease: hypercholesterolemic mice.

Seroepidemiologic studies have shown an association of Chlamydia pneumoniae antibody with atherosclerosis. Compelling additional evidence has accumulated, in that the organism has been found within atherosclerotic lesions throughout the arterial tree by multiple methods. C. pneumoniae has also been isolated from coronary and carotid atheromatous plaques. Although these studies support a potential role for C. pneumoniae in atherogenesis, confirmation of a causal relationship requires the use of animal models and intervention studies. We have focused on the evaluation of mouse models to address

Conceptual modeling of cardiovascular sounds.

In this paper, it is shown that the main source of mechanical energy of cardiovascular (CV) system i.e., rhythmic heart contraction is transformed to the oscillations of the CV walls and blood flow, and finally CV acoustical waves. These waves propagate through both blood flow (hemodynamical pathways) and tissues (viscoelastical pathways) toward the skin. Nonetheless, the CV walls could be assumed as the source of acoustical waves, since they act as the interface between blood flows and other tissues including skin. After obtaining the approximate accelerations of CV walls from pressure-flow (

Cardiovascular regulation: a modelling approach.

A detailed analysis of autonomic cardiovascular control (ACVC) may provide a key to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying postflight orthostatic hypotension. The central substrate of human ACVC is not directly accessible to measurements and observation in space research. Modelling--supporting inference and physiological reasoning--is a valuable tool to disclose its involvement We are currently determining the suitability of artificial neural networks (ANN's) as a model of the central substrate of ACVC. Having conducted a number of experiments with simulated tilt test data to clar

Targeting cAMP signaling compartments in iPSC-derived models of cardiovascular disease.

Adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) acts as a second messenger that is involved in the regulation of a plethora of processes. The activation of cAMP signaling in defined compartments is critical for cells to respond to an extracellular stimulus in a specific manner. Rapid advances in the field of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) reflect their great potential for cardiovascular disease modeling, drug screening, regenerative and precision medicine. This review discusses cAMP signaling in iPSC-derived cardiovascular disease models, and the prospects of using such systems to el

Systematic Review of Cardiovascular Risk Prediction Models for the Korean Population.

Introduction of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction models is necessary for optimal risk stratification for CVD prevention. While several Korean models have been developed, their comprehensive and comparative assessment remain limited. We aimed to systematically review CVD risk prediction models developed for the Korean population. We performed a comprehensive literature search across PubMed, Embase, KoreaMed, and Kmbase databases up to September 2025. Two authors independently screened the titles, abstracts, and full texts of retrieved articles. Information on model characteristics wa

From Gynecological Endocrine Disorders to Cardiovascular Risk: Insights from Rat Models.

Gynecological endocrine disorders, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis as well as primary ovarian insufficiency (POI)/premature ovarian failure (POF), significantly impact women's reproductive health and overall well-being. While these conditions are primarily driven by disturbances of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, yet growing evidence indicates that oxidative stress plays a crucial role in their development and progression. The combined impact of hormonal imbalance and impaired redox homeostasis contributes to infertility, metabolic dysfunction, and other co-m

Efficient Data-Driven Machine Learning Models for Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Prediction.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are now the leading cause of death, as the quality of life and human habits have changed significantly. CVDs are accompanied by various complications, including all pathological changes involving the heart and/or blood vessels. The list of pathological changes includes hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, angina, myocardial infarction and stroke. Hence, prevention and early diagnosis could limit the onset or progression of the disease. Nowadays, machine learning (ML) techniques have gained a significant role in disease prediction and are an essent

Cardiovascular Risk Prediction Models in People Living with HIV in Colombia.

BACKGROUND: People living with HIV are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular risk (CVR) prediction scores are powerful tools for individualized assessment that inform decision-making about follow-up frequency, hypolipemiant treatment intensification, and choice antiretroviral therapy. OBJECTIVES: The objectives of the study were to evaluate the performance of multiple cardiovascular assessment scores in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) at 5 and 10 years. Framingham (2004, 2008, and Colombia-adjusted), SCORE, PROCAM, ASCVD, and D:A:D scores were inclu

Chronic stress impacts the cardiovascular system: animal models and clinical outcomes.

Psychological stresses are associated with cardiovascular diseases to the extent that cardiovascular diseases are among the most important group of psychosomatic diseases. The longstanding association between stress and cardiovascular disease exists despite a large ambiguity about the underlying mechanisms. An array of possibilities have been proposed including overactivity of the autonomic nervous system and humoral changes, which then converge on endothelial dysfunction that initiates unwanted cardiovascular consequences. We review some of the features of the two most important stress-activa

Gene therapy in large animal models of human cardiovascular genetic disease.

Several naturally occurring animal models for human genetic heart diseases offer an excellent opportunity to evaluate potential novel therapies, including gene therapy. Some of these diseases--especially those that result in a structural defect during development (e.g., patent ductus arteriosus, pulmonic stenosis)--would likely be difficult to treat with a therapeutic gene transfer approach. However, the ability to transduce a significant proportion of the myocardial cells should make the various forms of inherited cardiomyopathy amenable to a therapeutic gene transfer approach. Mouse models to study angiogenesis in the context of cardiovascular diseases.

Pathological angiogenesis is a hallmark of various ischemic diseases (insufficient vessel growth) but also of cancer and metastasis, inflammatory diseases, blindness, psoriasis or arthritis (excessive angiogenesis). In response to ischemia (reduced blood flow and oxygen supply), new blood vessels form in order to compensate for the lack of perfusion. This natural process could protect them from the consequences of atherosclerotic diseases (myocardial angina, infarction, hindlimb arteriopathy or stroke). However, neovessel formation is altered in many patients. A better understanding of the mec
