A scoping review of counselling and psychological intervention models in low income nations.

There has been a persistent lack of synthesized knowledge on mental health treatment models that attune to the realities of low-income countries at large. To address this significant mental health knowledge gap, this scoping review tries to identify and synthesize the literature on psychological intervention models developed for or adapted to these contexts. After conducting a thorough search of academic databases, we went through a two-stage screening process to identify relevant articles. From those eligible studies, we collected and organized data on various theoretical and therapeutic coun

From Metaphor to Computation: Constructing the Potential Landscape for Multivariate Psychological Formal Models.

For psychological formal models, the stability of different phases is an important property for understanding individual differences and change processes. Many researchers use landscapes as a metaphor to illustrate the concept of stability, but so far there is no method to quantify the stability of a system's phases. We here propose a method to construct the potential landscape for multivariate psychological models. This method is based on the generalized potential function defined by Wang et al. (2008) and Monte Carlo simulation. Based on potential landscapes we define three different types o

Mindfulness, psychological resilience, and cognitive reappraisal on athletic performance: a predictive model based on psychological mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Mindfulness is increasingly viewed as a psychological resource for athletic performance, yet the sequential mechanism through which mindful awareness is translated into performance through cognitive reappraisal and psychological resilience remains insufficiently examined. This study constructed and tested a predictive model linking mindfulness, cognitive reappraisal, psychological resilience, and perceived athletic performance among competitive university athletes. METHODS: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted with 482 competitive university athletes recruited from

Child psychological maltreatment, depression, psychological inflexibility and difficulty in identifying feelings, a moderated mediation model.

Child psychological maltreatment has a strong relationship with college students' depression. However, the potential mediating and moderating variables between the two need further exploration. This study collected subjective data of college students from two universities in China through a cross-sectional survey, including variables such as child psychological maltreatment, psychological inflexibility, difficulty in identifying feelings, and depression. Through correlation analysis, a mediation model and a moderated mediation model were constructed to explore the interrelationships among the

A comparison of two psychological treatments for bulimia nervosa: implications for models of maintenance.

In an effort to elucidate the role of cognitive factors in the maintenance of bulimia nervosa, the efficacy of two psychological treatments was examined in a randomised control trial: cognitive behaviour therapy in the absence of explicit exposure instructions was compared with exposure and response prevention treatment in the absence of cognitive restructuring procedures. In the short term both treatments were successful at effecting substantial improvement in both the specific and the non-specific psychopathology of the disorder. However, at a one year follow up, whilst improvements were wel

Psychological Vulnerability to Perinatal Depression: A Longitudinal Mediation Model.

Perinatal depression (PD) is a significant mental health concern affecting women during pregnancy (antenatal depression, AD) and postpartum (postpartum depression, PPD). The association between AD and PPD is well established, with AD serving as a risk factor for PPD. Additionally, a history of depression and neuroticism have been identified as key vulnerability factors. However, the role of neuroticism remains controversial in the scientific literature, with some studies suggesting it is a stable predictor of depression, while others propose it may exhibit fluctuations in response to life even

The establishment of rat model in myocardial ischemia with psychological stress.

BACKGROUND: Psychological stress can provoke and aggravate myocardial ischemia, and this stress can even trigger acute coronary syndromes or sudden cardiac death. Therefore, for the first time, this study aimed to investigate the method for establishing a rat model of myocardial ischemia with psychological stress and its evaluation. METHODS: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the sham (S, n=10), myocardial infarct (MI, n=10), psychological stress (MODEL, n=10), and myocardial infarct with psychological stress (MI + MODEL, n=10) groups. The rat model of psychological stress was

Conceptual model and map of psychological abuse of older adults.

Psychological abuse of older adults is a hidden and pervasive problem that is not well conceptualized nor well measured. Goals. The goals were to (a) conceptualize psychological abuse using three-dimensional concept maps, and (b) develop theoretical models. Methods. Statements describing the construct were generated by local and national panels. These were sorted and rated using Concept Systems software whereby the concepts were depicted as a map. Results. The concept maps guided development of theoretical hierarchies. Significance. Theoretical models may help to develop measures to estimate p

[Recent developments in the modeling and psychological management of persecutory ideation].

Persecutory ideas are a major clinical problem and are associated with impaired functioning, reduced compliance with medication and increased risk of hospitalization. Persecutory ideation is defined as the false conviction that others are threatening or conspiring against one. Although persecutory delusions are mainly described and experienced in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, they also occur in other neurological and psychiatric diagnoses including Alzheimer disease, epilepsy, depression, mania, dementia and post-traumatic stress disorder. Moreover, epidemiological data from general and cl

Empirical psychological modeling of chest pain: a comparative study.

In this study the psychological profiles of 67 patients with noncardiac chest pain (NCA) and 47 patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) were analyzed to construct an empirical-psychological model that would be able to discriminate these two groups. All patients were suffering from chest pain at the time of referral by their general practitioner. The noncardiac patients were significantly younger, more often female, single, and nonsmokers. The two groups differed significantly on anxiety, somatization, obsessive compulsive behavior, psychoneuroticism, and hyperventilation. Logistic regressi

Effects of Psychological Maltreatment on Family Psychological Resilience: A Dyadic Longitudinal Model of Parent-Adult Child Relationships.

The quality of parent-child contact is key to understanding the process of family resilience development, given the influence of adverse experiences on family dynamics. The resilience of family members can be significantly impacted by psychological maltreatment, which has an impact on the victim's own mental health. Therefore, the current study looked at the association between adult children (children) and one of their parents' psychological maltreatment and family resilience, both in an interpersonal setting and across time. To achieve this, the Longitudinal Actor-Partner Interdependence Mod

Fatigue and psychological distress in Chinese patients with hemodialysis: a moderated mediation model of cognitive decline and psychological flexibility.

BACKGROUND: Fatigue and psychological distress are prevalent symptoms in hemodialysis (HD) patients, but the psychological mechanisms underlying these symptoms are not well understood. Cognitive decline and psychological flexibility may play significant roles in the emotional regulation processes associated with fatigue and psychological distress. This study aimed to explore whether cognitive decline mediates the association between fatigue and psychological distress, and whether mental flexibility plays a moderating role in this mediating effect. METHODS: A cross-sectional study using a conve

Psychological inflexibility and resilience in anxiety: insights from machine-learning and robust mediation-based models.

INTRODUCTION: Psychological inflexibility (PI) has been associated with anxiety symptoms, while resilience serves as a protective factor; however, their roles and interrelationship remain poorly understood. We investigated the role of PI on anxiety-related symptoms while assessing the mediating role of resilience and testing the moderating effect of sex and psychiatric history. METHODS: From April to July 2021, an online protocol employing self-reported measures assessed PI (Acceptance and Action Questionnaire), resilience dimensions (Resilience Scale for Adults), and anxiety-related symptoms
