Wound healing is a multistage process, related to complex cellular and molecular interactions that manipulate the cell behaviors to promote regeneration and repair of skin. Interestingly, plant-derived extracellular vesicles-like particles (EVs) show great potential as preparations for skin diseases. In this study, extracellular vesicle-like particles derived from Morinda Officinalis (MOEVLPs) were isolated and effectively promoted the proliferation, migration, and tube formation of endothelial cells in vitro. Mechanistically, MOEVLPs significantly activated the MAPK/YAP1 signaling pathway, co

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a major chronic liver disease. Chronic alcohol consumption induces dysbiosis, disruption of gut barrier function, oxidative stress, inflammation, and changes in lipid metabolism, thereby leading to ALD. In this study, we investigated whether the commercial Morinda citrifolia extract Nonitri can ameliorate ALD symptoms through the gut-liver axis. We used mice chronically administered EtOH and found a marked increase in serum endotoxin levels and biomarkers of liver pathology. Moreover, the EtOH-treated group showed significantly altered gut microbial composition

In traditional medicine, Morinda citrifolia (Noni) is used to treat various ailments, including skin and respiratory-tract infections. In this work, a bio-directed study (seed extracts) with five bacteria was carried out against four clinical isolates of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus (MRS) and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 strain to find molecules capable of inhibiting them. Three organic extracts were obtained by maceration of the noni seeds with ascending polarity solvents (n-hexane, dichloromethane and methanol) that were evaluated as antibacterial in the model of bioautography an

The dried leaves of Morinda lucida were extracted with 50% methanol and the extract was recovered in a 9.7% w/w yield. Acute toxicity tests were performed in mice and the intraperitoneal LD50 of the extract was 2000 mg/kg. The extract induced purgation in mice from the first hour after oral administration and reached its peak between the third and fourth hour. The purgation was not dose-dependent. M. lucida leaf extract i.p. significantly suppressed the level of parasitemia after Trypanosoma brucei infection in mice. Suppression of existing parasitemia appeared dose-dependent with 1000 mg/kg i

To clarify the role of Acetobacter sp. in fermented noni juice, the physiochemical properties, main active ingredients and volatile constituents were comprehensively analyzed. The sugar content and acidity tended to be stable after 12 days of fermentation. Acetobacter sp. had no significant influence on major active ingredients of products. The headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) were performed to describe the characteristic flavor profiles during fermentation. A total of 55 flavor compounds were screened with odour threshold and Kruskal-Wallis p < 0.05. Among th

UNLABELLED: Different products of plant Morinda citrifolia L. (noni) have been marketed and used around the world based on properties described by Polynesian people that use them for more than 2000 years. Marketing of these products is based on their presumptive phytotherapic properties. However there is little scientific evidence about their safety, especially when used during pregnancy.
AIM OF THE STUDY: Evaluate the possible developmental toxicity of the noni fruit aqueous extract and commercial product of TAHITIAN NONI juice in rats exposed during pregnancy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Pregna
