Müllerian duct alterations in development or fusion in the embryo cause congenital uterine anomalies which may be responsible for decreased fertility or problems in carrying out a normal pregnancy. In this study, the MR findings in uterine agenesis (1 case), unicornuate (2 cases), didelphys (3 cases), bicornuate (3 cases), arcuate (6 cases) and septate uterus (8 cases) are described, together with the optimal section planes for their demonstration. The examinations were performed with an 0.5-T superconductive magnet, the spin-echo technique and mostly T2-weighted sequences. The anomalies were

Male sexual differentiation in based upon at least two factors; testosterone and the müllerian inhibitor factor. The absence of the latter produces a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism, the persistence of the Müllerian duct syndrome. The case of a phenotypically male patient in whom surgery to correct bilateral cryptorchidism was performed is presented. The operatory findings included the presence of uterus and fallopian tubes which were removed. The right atrophic tes was removed and the left was fixated. Literature regarding etiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment is pr

Norethindrone, a reported aromatase inhibitor, has been used to examine the role of estrogens in the unilateral regression of the mullerian ducts that occurs in female chick embryos. The mullerian ducts are embryonic oviducts that regress in most male vertebrates under the influence of the testicular hormone, mullerian inhibiting substance (MIS). The ovaries of the chick also produce MIS during early development, but only the right duct regresses. Based on the finding that the left duct contains significantly more estradiol binding sites than the right duct, it has been proposed that the left

Over a ten-year period, we identified 457 patients with renal or uterine anomalies. Only 12 of 55 patients with anomalies of mullerian development had an intravenous pyelogram, which revealed an associated renal anomaly in five. Conversely, only two of 21 women with renal anomalies had a gynecologic evaluation; one of them had a bicornuate uterus. Although the association between anomalies of mullerian and wolffian development has been known for some time, the appropriate studies to demonstrate such an association are not routinely done in clinical practice. All female patients with congenital

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism characterized by the presence of Mullerian duct structures in a normal male with 46, XY karyotype. Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is rare form of testicular ectopia in which two testes are located on one inguinal side. The opposite scrotum is empty. PMDS with TTE is rare. We report a case of PMDS with TTE discovered during surgery for a right inguinal hernia in a 25-year-old male.

INTRODUCTION: We report on a 22-year-old male patient who presented with an intrapelvic tumor.
CASE REPORT: CT and MRI showed a left pelvic abscess, which was drained. After regression of the abscess, we removed the causative tubular structure surgically, revealing a rudimentary genital structure with parts of the Mullerian and Wolffian ducts.
CONCLUSIONS: This case report demonstrates an abscess formation as complication of a previously asymptomatic rudimentary genital structure, which was associated with further abnormalities, such as left testicular agenesia, perineoscrotal hypospadias an

Congenital uterine anomalies (mullerian duct anomalies) comprise a spectrum of developmental malformations associated with varying degrees of adverse reproductive outcomes. Although traditionally diagnosed by hysterosalpingography or ultrasound, further elaboration of the findings frequently was performed with laparoscopy/laparotomy and hysteroscopy. The need for diagnostic surgical intervention has largely been eclipsed with the advent of magnetic resonance imaging, which has become the imaging modality of choice for characterization of congenital mullerian anomalies.

A twenty-eight year old phenotypically and genotypically normal male adult was admitted with a right inguinal hernia, a right retractile testis and left cryptorchidism. During surgery, he was found to have a uterus in the right spermatic cord and a left undescended testis (intra abdominal type). The uterus was excised, left orchidectomy, right orchidoplexy and right herniorrhaphy were performed. This rare case is reported as persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) which is caused by impaired action of Mullerian Inhibiting Substance (MIS) in regressing the Mullerian duct.

Genetic factors are pivotal in reproductive development and subsequent reproductive processes. If disturbed, infertility can occur. In the female, genetic factors affecting the ovary and the uterus are not uncommon causes of infertility. Terminal deletions on the X long arm and X short arm and X chromosomal mosaicism have long been accepted as causes of premature ovarian failure (POF). Responsible genes on the X have not yet elucidated. Attractive candidate genes for POF also exist on autosomes, and in over a dozen genes molecular perturbations are documented in non-syndromic POF. Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism; it is defined by the presence of the Mullerian duct derivatives (the uterus, the fallopian tubes, and the upper vagina) in genotypically and phenotypically males. Seminoma is the most common type of testicular tumor in the third and fourth decade of life. We report a case of intra-abdominal seminoma in a patient with bilateral undescended testes and persistent Mullerian duct syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome is a rare form of pseudohermaphroditism, possibly resulting from the absence of Mullerian duct inhibiting factor.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: We report the case of a 36 year-old patient with a syndrome of persistent Müllerian ducts (PMDS) of the female type. The Clinical examination revealed avacant scrotum, a normal penis. The spermogram analysis found azoospermia. Imaging using ultrasound and tomotensidometry found the presence of amass in the back of bladder. A Laparoscopic exploration revealed two slightly enlarged testicles, in a pelvic situatio

Some of the fascinating developmental anomalies encountered by Obstetricians and Gynecologists are mullerian duct disorder of various types. The diagnosis is usually made during workup for infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss or cyclic pelvic pain. Because of embryologic developmental structural share and proximity, it is not uncommon to find mullerian duct, urinary tract and skeletal anomalies concurrently. Three parous women with different mullerian duct malformations preoperatively diagnosed as ovarian tumor, ectopic pregnancy and footling breech are reported Intraoperatively, the first ca

Abdominal pain is a common presenting complaint to the Emergency Department (ED). Often, rare etiologies can be discovered in the work up of this common complaint. Here we present the case of an adolescent female who presented with abdominal pain and was found to have obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) or Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich Syndrome. A 12 year old female with known renal agenesis presented with 5 days of left sided abdominal pain that then developed into right lower quadrant pain. She had regular menses for the last 2 years. Ultrasound (US) showed a fluid collec

Persistent Mullerian duct syndrome has been described as a disease of internal male pseudohermaphroditism, a rare autosomal recessive disease, characterised by persistent Mullerian derivatives in patients with male pattern 46, XY karyotype and normal pattern virilisation. We present a case of an elderly man, who on evaluation for bilateral undescended testes was found to have a pelvic mass suggestive of malignant transformation of an undescended testis on imaging. On surgical exploration, uterus with multiple fibroids, bilateral fallopian tubes, cervix and bilateral atrophic testes were identi
