For years, a wide and deep excision of primary cutaneous melanomas has been recommended to achieve a better care and to decrease the risk of local recurrence of the disease. However, recent studies indicate that removal of peritumoral tissue beyond complete excision of the primary neoplasm does not decrease significantly the risk of local metastases. In addition, it confers no benefit to the patient survival.

Buschke-Löwenstein tumor is a slowly growing neoplasm with high potential of local invasion. We described a 29 year-old female with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome who was surgically treated for a Buschke- Löwenstein tumor with a wide local excision, bilateral gluteal flaps and loop ileostomy. At 12 months follow-up, there was no evidence of recurrence. Despite it does not metastasize, Buschke-Löwenstein tumor has a high recurrence rate and a 50% risk of malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma. Surgery is considered the treatment of choice for this disease. Podophyllin, immuno

Darkly pigmented adrenocortical neoplasms are rare tumors that are often referred to as "black adenomas," indicative of both their pigmented nature and their invariably benign clinical behavior in previously reported cases. We herein describe an exceptional case of a malignant pigmented adrenocortical neoplasm, with late recurrence and metastasis. At age 53, this female patient was diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome and underwent a laparoscopic right adrenalectomy, revealing a 3 cm well-circumscribed, darkly pigmented adrenocortical tumor. The tumor exhibited several atypical histologic feature

Ameloblastoma, a benign tumor of odontogenic type, represents 10% of all tumors of the jawbone. It is localized in the mandible in 80% of cases and in the upper jaw in the remaining 20%. In every case, the selection of the surgical treatment to be applied must consider some fundamental elements, including the age and general state of health of the patient, the clinicopathological variant, and the localization and extent of the tumor. In addition, it is necessary to evaluate whether the neoplasm to be treated is a primitive lesion or a recurrence. Although ameloblastoma has relative histologica

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare soft-tissue neoplasm found mainly in the female pelvis. Approximately 130 cases have been reported in the literature to date. In most cases treatment consists of surgical resection, but local recurrence rates remain high (36-72%). Therefore, long-term follow up is necessary and magnetic resonance imaging seems to be the preferred method for detecting recurrence. We report our experience of a primary and a recurrent aggressive angiomyxoma.

BACKGROUND: We report herein a case of atypical intradermal smooth-muscle neoplasm.
PATIENT AND METHODS: A 58-year-old man presented with a painless pinkish-white chest nodule ongoing for two years. Histopathology revealed a proliferation of intradermal smooth-muscle cells. Some atypia and 5 mitoses were seen in the most mitotic fields. The histopathologist suggested a diagnosis of "atypical intradermal smooth-muscle neoplasm".
DISCUSSION: Atypical intradermal smooth-muscle neoplasm is part of a spectrum extending from skin leiomyoma to leiomyosarcoma. The prognosis consists chiefly in risk

Ameloblastoma is an uncommon and locally aggressive, benign, odontogenic tumor, with local recurrence when not adequately excised. A rare variant of this neoplasm with the benign features but accompanied with metastases has been described. This rare variant is malignant ameloblastoma and is known to have a poor prognosis. We present the case of a young woman who had recurrent mandibular tumors, which were resected twice and histologically reported as ameloblastoma. Four years later, she presented with pulmonary metastasis and atelectasis. A review of the literature on this very rare neoplasm w

Chondromyxoid fibroma of bone (CMF) is a rare benign primary bone neoplasm accounting for less than 0.5% of all primary bone neoplasms. The spine is an uncommon site for this tumour, with forty-two cases reported in the modern English literature. They have clinical features similar to CMF arising at other sites. Local recurrence is well documented. We report an incidentally discovered lytic lesion of the C2 vertebra. The patient underwent stereotactic CT guided trans-oral curettage of the lesion with iliac bone graft and anterior fusion of C2 and C3. Microscopic examination of the surgical spe

Recently, a distinct subgroup of vascular neoplasms has been identified, characterized by NFATC-related fusions. Although existing literature is limited, these lesions histologically show a variable appearance with a tendency for local recurrence but not distant spread. Therefore, they likely fall within the "benign" or at most in the "local aggressive"/"borderline" tumor category according to the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) classification scheme. Up to now, vascular tumors with NFATC-related fusions have only been documented in bone and occasionally soft

In patients operated on for low rectal cancer, the functional results, disease recurrence, and survival have been evaluated with respect to the type of surgery performed. Particular attention was paid to analysis of the pathologic aspects, considered in our opinion, as risk factors for recurrence. The investigation was carried out on 131 patients, of whom 70 received anterior resection, 55 abdominoperineal resection, and 6 local treatment. Abdominoperineal resection was carried out in more advanced disease. Postoperative mortality was 2.1 percent after anterior resection and 0 after abdominope

Desmoplastic fibroma (DF) is a benign intra-osseous neoplasm characterized by the formation of abundant collagen fibers. It arises most commonly in the jaws and exhibits local aggressiveness and high recurrence rates after local resection. An uncommon case of expansive DF involving the right maxilla, maxillary sinus, and inferior orbital wall of a 49-year-old man whose initial symptoms were similar to acute sinusitis is presented, and the criteria for diagnosis and clinical management are discussed.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of salivary glands is a slow-growing malignant tumor, characterized by wide local infiltration, perineural spread, a propensity to local recurrence and late distant metastasis. Although ACC is the second most common malignant salivary gland neoplasm and constitutes approximately one-third of all salivary gland malignancies, it is relatively rare in parotid gland. Here, we present a case report of a cribriform type of ACC involving parotid salivary gland in a 66-year-old female.

Plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor is an uncommon soft tissue neoplasm of intermediate malignancy, most frequently occurring as a painless, slow-growing nodule that shows a distinct predilection for children and young adults. We report a healthy 11-year-old boy presenting with a 1-year history of an asymptomatic cutaneous nodule on his left shoulder. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis confirmed a diagnosis of plexiform fibrohistiocytic tumor. Despite following a usually benign clinical course, this neoplasm is prone to frequent local recurrence and occasional metastatic ability.

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of the parotid gland. It is a benign tumor composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells arranged in various morphological patterns. The most common reasons contributing to a recurrent disease are obvious or underestimated tumor spillage, incomplete excision, and violation of the pseudocapsule of the tumor.
CASE REPORT: This article presents a case of gross multinodular recurrence of a parotid gland pleomorphic adenoma in a 38-year-old female patient. Upon clinical examination of the homolateral neck, multiple, painless, well-define

Esthesioneuroblastoma is a rare neoplasm of neuroectodermal origin, arising from the olfactory epithelium in the roof of the nasal cavity. Extension to the brain can occur less frequently than local recurrence, but leptomeningeal metastases without brain involvement have rarely been mentioned. We report 2 cases with poor prognosis of leptomeningeal infiltration during the evolution of esthesioneuroblastoma.

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is an intraepithelial neoplastic disorder which is included as a rare malignant condition. However, it sometimes shows aggressive behavior of local recurrence and coexisting malignancy. We had experienced nine cases of EMPD involving the scrotum for seven years. Two cases of them presented metastasis. The first case presented extensive inguinal lymph node metastasis with underlying adnexal adenocarcinoma one year after wide local excision. The second case initially presented multiple metastasis to the liver and in the lymph node. The latter, showing fulminan

BACKGROUND: With recent advances in genetics research, genetic analysis is increasingly being used in clinical practice. We report a case in which genetic analysis aided in diagnosing a local recurrence of sigmoid colon cancer, initially suspected to be a primary neoplasm of the small intestine.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old male underwent laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for stage IIIB sigmoid colon cancer, followed by 8 cycles of CAPOX adjuvant chemotherapy, one and a half years prior. A follow-up CT scan performed one and a half years postoperatively revealed a mass in the small intestine nea

INTRODUCTION: giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a locally aggressive bone neoplasm that predominantly affects young adults. It most frequently involves the distal femur and proximal tibia. Despite its benign classification, GCTB carries a significant risk of local recurrence and pulmonary metastasis. Surgical resection remains the cornerstone of treatment, often complemented by local adjuvants. Denosumab has emerged as a therapeutic option, although its impact on recurrence rates remains controversial. Evidence regarding early predictors of recurrence remains limited.

Retiform hemangioendothelioma (RHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm of intermediate malignancy, with a high frequency of local recurrence and negligible metastasizing potential. We describe a 45-year-old female who presented with a firm subcutaneous nodule in the lower-outer quadrant of the right breast. Diagnosis of RHE was confirmed based on the characteristic retiform pattern of the branching neoplastic vascular channels, as well as positivity for CD31 and negativity for D2-40 markers. The patient was successfully treated with wide local excision of the tumor with clear surgical margins. The re

BACKGROUND: Desmoid-type fibromatosis (DF) is an aggressive (myo)fibroblastic neoplasm with an infiltrative growth pattern and a tendency for local recurrence. It is rarely seen at the foot. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze clinical presentation, therapy, and outcomes in a consecutive series of four patients with DF at the foot.
METHODS: From 1994 to 2014, four patients had been surgically treated. The resection margin was marginal or even intralesional in all. One patient already had local recurrence at first presentation. The end point was either local recurrence or progre
