A 57 year old male patient presented to our hospital with vomiting, epigastric discomfort, and loss of appetite over a 24hr period. Subsequent investigations demonstrated a submucosal lesion causing gastric outlet obstruction. The patients deteriorating condition mandated laparotomy and a pathologic diagnosis was made of a pyloric submucosal fibroepithelial lesion from the resected distal stomach and adherent transverse colon; no malignant features were found. This is to our knowledge the first instance of a fibroepithelial neoplasm occurring within the gastrointestinal tract.

Fibroepithelial polyps of the ureter presenting as pelviureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction in two boys are reported. These neoplasms are uncommon, especially in children. Surgical excision of the PUJ with the polyp and dismembered pyeloplasty was performed in each case. Postoperative recoveries were uneventful.

Fibroepithelial stromal polyps of vulva are the type of mesenchymal lesion that typically occurs in women of reproductive period. They are common, usually small and hystologically benign. BACKGROUND: Onychomatricoma is a nail neoplasm that usually presents as longitudinal nail plate thickening, involving either the partial or whole nail. Histopathologically, it is characterized by deep invaginations of the proliferating nail matrix and proliferation of CD34+ and CD10+ spindle cells with collagenous to myxoid stroma. Onychomatricoma has been considered a fibroepithelial neoplasm. Recently, RB1 loss has been verified using array comparative genomic hybridization.
METHODS: This study investigated the RB1 status in onychomatricoma with morphological methods.

OBJECTIVE: Fibroepithelial polyps of the urinary tract are rare with most cases reported in children.
DESIGN: We report the clinicopathologic features of 12 fibroepithelial polyps of the lower urinary tract in adults.

Fibroepithelial polyps (FEPs) are rare benign ureteral neoplasms of mesodermal origin. As an intrinsic cause of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) they are very uncommon. The increased frequency of precancerous lesions and malignant diseases of the vulva is a hallmark of the postmenopausal period. However, the development of fibroepithelial polyps, which are benign neoplasms, is also possible. The exact etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. These mesenchymal neoplasms are mostly diagnosed in women who received hormone replacement therapy or those who are of reproductive age, with pregnancy being a predisposing factor. We present a clinical case in which surgical treatment was the first choice, and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis.

Anogenital mammary-like glands (AGMLG) are nowadays considered a normal component of the anogenital area. Lesions affecting AGMLG are similar to those seen in breast. Nonepithelial and nonmelanocytic anal neoplasms are uncommon. The majority are mesenchymal tumors, most of which are malignant sarcomas, particularly leiomyosarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Benign mesenchymal anal neoplasms are even rarer. AIMS: Myogenin (myf4) is a nuclear transcription factor that is considered to be a sensitive and highly specific marker for skeletal muscle differentiation. OBJECTIVES: To determine the frequency and spectrum of oral and maxillofacial lesions biopsied in a hospital population in the northern region of Portugal.
METHODS: We conducted descriptive analyses of pathology reports from biopsies of oral and maxillofacial lesions performed between 1990 and 2006, in Oporto Hospital Center. Information on gender and age of patient, location of the lesions and the histopathological diagnosis were analysed.

DICER1, a member of the ribonuclease III family, is involved in the biogenesis of microRNAs and, hence, it influences gene expression regulation. Vulvar tumors arising from submucosal connective tissue, some of which exhibit hormonal responsiveness, have many clinical and histologic overlapping characteristics. We present a case of a fibroepithelial stromal polyp arising from the vulva of a 22-year-old female. We review the differential diagnosis with an emphasis on distinguishing features of these uncommon neoplasms. Accurate diagnosis is essential as the extent of surgical resection and risk of local recurrence varies for these tumors.
