Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by distinctive cutaneous and gastrointestinal venous malformations that usually cause massive or occult gastrointestinal hemorrhage and iron deficiency anemia secondary to the bleeding episodes. It is even a rare cause of gastrointestinal hemorrhage during childhood. We describe a 6-year-old boy who had multiple venous malformations all over his body. He also suffered from several episodes of melena, chronic anemia, and growth retardation. The endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract revealed multiple bluish-black ses

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome, an uncommon condition, is manifested by gastrointestinal and skin hemangiomas and gastrointestinal hemorrhage causing anemia. The authors report a unique case of the syndrome in association with a congenital cardiac malformation. A 26-year-old woman presented with iron-deficiency anemia after the birth of her first child. She had a history of skin and gastrointestinal hemangiomas and tetralogy of Fallot. Endoscopy revealed multiple new intestinal hemangiomas, which were removed through enterotomies with resolution of the anemia. Iron therapy was prescribed, and

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome (BRBN) is a rare disease entity of which at least 22 cases of pediatric origin have been described since 1958. Only a few known cases have developed in adulthood. This syndrome is characterized by cutaneous, usually multiple, cavernous hemangiomas associated with similar lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. The cutaneous hemangiomas are a variant of the cavernous type, which are generally soft, rubbery, and compressible. Most cases are sporadic, although autosomal dominant inheritance has been described. Complications of this syndrome may include gastrointesti

Blue rubber-bleb nevus syndrome.

A 22-year-old man with blue rubber-bleb nevus syndrome is reported on. This is a rare syndrome. This patient is of particular interest because he had a combination of rare features: (1) five ileo-ileal intussusceptions each with a hemangioma acting as the lead point, were present during operation; (2) there was an angiomatous lesion of the glans penis; (3) this is the first case reported in a Chinese person. An aggressive surgical approach was used with success. Preoperative and perioperative investigations, including operative colonoscopy, were used to localize the gastrointestinal hemangioma

Intraoral blue (Jadassohn-Tieche) nevus.

Blue nevus of the oral mucosa is a distinctly uncommon clincial entity. Careful review of the literature yielded thirty-one previously reported cases. The present article reports the occurrence of a blue nevus of the hard palate in a 58-year-old man. It is of interest since it is the smallest (1 by 1 mm.) intraoral blue nevus to be reported. A clinicopathologic study of the previous thirty-one cases and of our case suggests that this lesion has no age or sex predilection. The most common site of occurrence was the hard palate. There appears to be no tendency toward recurrence. A brief review o

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Gastrointestinal bleeding of obscure origin accounts for less than 5% of gastrointestinal hemorrhages. It is typically difficult to diagnose due to limited accessibility through standard endoscopic techniques and generally requires a significant number of procedures to reach a diagnosis. The "blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome" is a rare condition, of a probably hereditary origin, characterized by the presence of multiple hemangiomatous lesions, which can manifest as gastrointestinal bleeding of obscure origin. These lesions are generally nodular, rubbery to the touch, and have a submucosal appea

Agminated blue nevus - Case report.

Blue nevi are benign melanocytic lesions located in the deeper reticular dermis, consequence of failure of melanocytic migration into the dermal-epidermal junction from the neural crest. Lesions are usually asymptomatic and solitary, but may present in a multiple or agminated (grouped) pattern. The agminated subtype is formed when bluish-pigmented lesions cluster together in a well-defined area. Lesions can be flat or raised. We report the case of a patient who presented multiple bluish macules (1-3 mm in diameter) grouped on the left upper back. Dermoscopy and anatomic pathological examinatio

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

UNLABELLED: Blue Rubber Bleb Nevus Syndrome (BRBNS) is a rare condition characterized by multiple venous malformations involving the skin and internal organs. The gastrointestinal tract is always involved and intestinal haemorrhage is the most frequent clinical manifestation associated with iron deficiency anaemia. We describe a 10-year-old girl who, since birth, presented numerous venous malformations all over her body and a lymphangioma in the right leg. At the age of 5 years, she also had a severe episode of gastric bleeding requiring a blood transfusion. From this episode, she is suffering

Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

The blue rubber nevus syndrome consists of multiple venous malformations in the skin and gastrointestinal tract associated with intestinal hemorrhage and iron deficiency anemia. Other organs may be involved. The causes of this syndrome are unknown. Its most common presentation is in the form of sporadic cases, but dominant autosomal inheritance has been described. It is a condition that affects both sexes equally, and its occurrence is rare in the black race. We present a case of this syndrome diagnosed in a 11-year-old patient. He had severe anemia and a venous swelling on the trunk. Similar

BAP-1 Expression Status by Immunohistochemistry in Cellular Blue Nevus and Blue Nevus-like Melanoma.

The family of blue nevi includes the common blue nevus (BN), cellular blue nevus (CBN), and atypical BN, while melanomas with BN-like morphology can either arise in association with a blue nevus (MABN) or in the de novo setting mimicking cellular blue nevus (MMCBN). Recent molecular and immunohistochemical studies have demonstrated loss of BAP-1 in MABN/MMCBN but not in BN/CBN, suggesting that loss of BAP-1 correlates with a malignant phenotype in these lesions. In this study, we applied anti-BAP-1 antibodies to a series of CBN/BN (n = 11) and MABN/MMCBN (n = 4). Nuclear BAP-1 expression was d

A Case of Nevus of Ota Associated with Agminated Blue Nevus.

Dermal melanocytosis is characterized by the presence of spindle-shaped melanocytes in the dermis. Common forms include Mongolian spots, nevus of Ota, nevus of Ito, and blue nevus. Nevus of Ota typically presents as bluish-brown patches involving the sclera and the cutaneous regions innervated by the ophthalmic and maxillary branches of the trigeminal nerve unilaterally. Blue nevus usually manifests as a solitary lesion. Agminated blue nevus is a rare variant that often presents as grouped, linear, or blaschkoid-distributed deep blue macules or papules. Only a few cases have reported the co-oc

Giant Blue Nevus: A New Association to Nevus of Ota.

Nevus of Ota, also known as oculodermal melanocytosis, is a congenital pigmentary condition that can affect structures in the distribution of the ophthalmic and maxillary divisions of the trigeminal cranial nerve. Malignant transformation, although rare, may occur within nevus of Ota and result in uveal, cutaneous, orbital or even dural melanoma. We present a new association of Nevus of Ota complicated with a giant orbital Blue Nevus in a young white male and the management of this tumor.

Melanoma associated with blue nevus and melanoma mimicking cellular blue nevus: a clinicopathologic study of 10 cases on the spectrum of so-called 'malignant blue nevus'.

The term "malignant blue nevus" refers to a rare and heterogeneous group of melanomas that arise in several clinical settings. This includes melanomas arising in association with a common or cellular blue nevus and those arising de novo and resembling cellular blue nevi. We reviewed the clinicopathologic features of 10 cases of malignant blue nevi. Six cases proved to be de novo melanoma mimicking cellular blue nevus, but lacking a clear-cut benign component. Two melanomas arose in association with a common blue nevus, and two with a cellular blue nevus. The patients' (5 males, 5 females) ages

Blue nevus: report of a case.

Blue nevus is a benign, acquired melanocytic lesion that typically manifests as an asymptomatic, slate-blue or blue-black, smooth-surfaced macule or papule. It usually measures less than 4 mm in diameter. Intraoral melanocytic nevi are uncommon compared to those found in the skin, with the exception of the blue nevus. The blue nevus is proportionally more prevalent in oral mucosa and represents the second most common form of nevus, accounting for 16.5% to 36% of all oral nevi. The palate is the predominant location for blue nevi, accounting for 87% of all oral cases, although other lesions are

Blue nevus of the uterine cervix.

A case of blue naevus of the endocervix is reported with immunohistochemical and ultrastructural findings. The dendritic melanin-containing cells are analogous to the blue naevi cells of the skin. Electron microscopy showed melanosomes in dendritic cells but no cells with melanin-producing Schwann cells features were observed. Histogenetic hypotheses are discussed.
