This report explores the consequences of acoustic overexposures on hearing in noisy environments for two macaque monkeys trained to perform a reaction time detection task using a Go/No-Go lever release paradigm. Norwegian authorities have developed and adopted a method for assessing the magnitude of noise impact on a community in quantitative terms. The method takes into account all levels of noise annoyance experienced by all the residents in an area and transforms these data into a single quantity that can also be expressed in monetary terms. This method is contrary to other commonly used assessment methods where only a certain fraction of the impacted people, e.g. those "highly annoyed," is considered.

Screening audiometry in children not infrequently reveals a 4 kHz dip. Evidence for noise trauma as the etiological background of this 4 kHz dip have been presented in the literature. To support Canada's efforts in addressing underwater radiated noise (URN), a novel ship noise rating system was developed using the distribution of Radiated Noise Levels (RNL) measurements from over 49,000 transits of 5947 different ships. Call centers represent one of the fastest growing industries. However, there are health and safety hazards unique to this new industry. One of these potential hazards is hearing impairment caused by headsets. In this study, noise exposure assessment was performed at 21 call centers and for 117 operators.
