Revisiting the effects of state anesthesia policy interventions: A comprehensive look at certified registered nurse anesthetist service provision in U.S. hospitals from 2010 to 2021.

AIMS: Rural hospitals in the United States often rely on nonphysician providers such as advanced practice nurses to care for their patients. One important role that is served by advanced practice nurses is that of anesthesia provider (certified registered nurse anesthetist or CRNA). In 2001, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) passed an opt-out law affording state governors the right to loosen physician supervision requirements on CRNAs in their respective states, thus potentially improving access in targeted areas. Since then, 24 states have adopted these opt-out provisions. We aim

Medicare program; revisions to payment policies under the physician fee schedule for calendar year 2003 and inclusion of registered nurses in the personnel provision of the critical access hospital emergency services requirement for frontier areas and remote locations. Final rule with comment period.

This final rule with comment period refines the resource-based practice expense relative value units (RVUs) and makes other changes to Medicare Part B payment policy. In addition, as required by statute, we are announcing the physician fee schedule update for CY 2003. The update to the physician fee schedule occurs as a result of a calculation methodology specified by law. That law required the Department to set annual updates based in part on estimates of several factors. Although subsequent after-the-fact data indicate that actual increases were different to some degree from earlier estimate

Nurses' Experiences of Providing Dysphagia Services Through the Internet+Nursing Service Care Model: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: With China's aging population and increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, the Internet+Nursing Service has emerged as a new care model, enabling registered nurses from medical institutions to provide home-based care through a web-based application and offline service model. This care model is particularly beneficial for vulnerable populations, such as patients with dysphagia, who face significant risks like malnutrition and aspiration pneumonia. Nurses play a critical role in delivering these services, yet their experiences, challenges, and support needs remain underexplored. Un

[Discussion on care management operation of a visiting nurse--a case of increased ADL by the support of independent life].

In addition to the visiting nursing service conventionally provided, the Department of Long-term Care Insurance Service of this hospital inaugurated the home care supporting service in April 2000. Senior citizens rated higher in the degree of necessity of care in the initial accreditation and in the renewal accreditation of the Long-term Care Insurance tend to have fewer changes in the services for the last two years. At present, care managers of various professions are involved in the home care supporting services and have no choice but to provide care in non-specialty areas. Under the situat

BackgroundMultiple sclerosis (MS) affects approximately 100,000 people in the United Kingdom, with rising emergency admissions to the hospital. The multiple sclerosis specialist nurse plays a pivotal role in managing MS care in the United Kingdom, and there is anecdotal evidence that this role can help avoid emergency presentations and unnecessary hospital admissions.MethodsA retrospective service evaluation took place in one established MS nursing service. The impact of the introduction of proactive nurse-led management and a rapid response service on rates of emergency presentation, hospital

Emergency Service/Department as an (Un)Favorable Nursing Practice Environment.

INTRODUCTION: Emergency services/departments are complex environments, characterized by high nursing workload and unpredictable patient flow. National and International organizations recommend that health care institutions should develop strategies to promote favorable nursing practice environments. The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index is a widely used assessment tool. METHODS: Quantitative, cross-sectional study that aimed to evaluate nurses' perceptions of the nursing practice environment in a Portuguese emergency service/department using the Practice Environment Scale o

Validating a measure of patient satisfaction with community nursing services.

This study describes an attempt to develop and validate a measure of patient satisfaction with a district nursing service in a south-west London inner city borough. The patients were 126 house-bound elderly people living alone and dependent upon district nursing services. The patient satisfaction measure was derived from an earlier North American questionnaire assessing satisfaction with hospital nursing services. The results indicated that the measure chosen reflected multiple dimensions of patient satisfaction that were differentially sensitive to factors such as the degree of personalizatio

Perceptions and Service Outcomes of a Nurse Practitioner Led Inpatient Psychiatric Consultant-Liaison Service in a Private Health Care Setting: A Prospective Observational Study.

Psychiatric consultant-liaison nurses play a crucial role in ensuring prompt and effective mental health care, though the volume of empirical research on nurse-led consultant-liaison models in the private sector is limited. This study evaluated the service activity and immediate service-level outcomes of a nurse-led Psychiatric Consultant-Liaison service within an Australian metropolitan private hospital. The study aimed to explore: (1) consumer case-mix; (2) trends in consumer referrals and outcomes; and (3) the perceived usefulness and acceptability of the service among referring nurses. A p

Nursing intervention scoring system in management of a surgical intensive care unit.

Hospital cost containment and nursing shortages have diminished resources available in surgical intensive care units (SICU). To provide a more quantitative approach to management of these resources, the nursing intervention scoring system (NISS) devised by Greenburg et al was instituted in the SICU at the VA Medical Center, Gainesville, Fla. The NISS scores for patients in the SICU were calculated without computer support. During a four-month study period, 725 NISS evaluations on 70 patients were collected. Characteristic curves of NISS scores versus postoperative days were generated from the

BACKGROUND: This 3-year study measured the satisfaction of staff nurses with medical emergency team (MET) nurse services at a 573-bed hospital in the south from 2015 through 2017. Nurse satisfaction is a key management issue. Barriers to effective MET use can negatively impact patient outcomes, staffing, and nurse turnover. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to assess nurse satisfaction with MET nurses at a large county hospital in the south over a 3-year period. METHODS: Satisfaction was analyzed by shift, nurse role, the number of times the nurse contacted the MET nurse, and the way

How to get care right for people with learning disabilities in the emergency department: ask and engage.

Healthcare professionals are legally obliged to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that people, including those with learning disabilities, can access appropriate and timely care. However, although people with learning disabilities are high users of general health services, staff have little understanding of learning disability with a negative effect on patient experience and outcomes. This article explores some of the challenges experienced by people with learning disabilities in the emergency department (ED). Each section focuses on a different aspect of how to adjust the delivery of heal
