Real-world safety evaluation of topical corticosteroid use: A community pharmacy-based, prospective, observational study.

Considering the concerns about topical corticosteroid (TC) phobia that prevents necessary use of patients from using the necessary TCs, estimating the incidence and characteristics of adverse drug events (ADEs) related to TCs in the real world is warranted. However, limited study investigated them. This prospective observational study aimed to assess the utility patterns and safety data related to TC use and predisposing factors among community-dwelling population. We included and prospectively observed the TC users through nationwide multi-centre observational cohort based on community pharma

An observer-blind parallel-group, randomized, multicentre clinical and microbiological study of a topical clindamycin/zinc gel and a topical clindamycin lotion in patients with mild/moderate acne.

INTRODUCTION: A topical acne treatment in which clindamycin phosphate equivalent to 1% clindamycin is presented in a gel formulation has received marketing authorizations in a number of EU and non-EU countries. Clindamycin/zinc gel contains zinc acetate in a formulation that reduces systemic absorption of clindamycin through the skin. OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy and safety of a 1% clindamycin/zinc gel when applied to the face once daily or twice daily with a 1% clindamycin lotion applied twice daily for 16 weeks in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris. METHODS: This was a ran

Magnitude, characteristics and consequences of topical steroid misuse in rural North India: an observational study among dermatology outpatients.

INTRODUCTION: Current evidence indicates an alarming increase in topical steroid (TS) misuse in India. Data regarding the magnitude and characteristics of this problem in rural India, where 68% of the population resides, are insufficient. This study analyses the magnitude, causes, characteristics and consequences of TS misuse in rural India. It also examines the association between TS misuse and patients' perception of skin disease. METHODS: A mixed-method observational study was conducted among the attendees of the dermatology outpatient department in a rural North Indian hospital. Those wit

Topical clobetasol propionate treatment and cutaneous adverse effects in patients with early-stage mycosis fungoides: an observational study.

Topical superpotent class I corticosteroids (CSs) are highly effective in the treatment of early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) and are readily available, easily applied, and have minor side effects compared to other topical therapeutic options. Because MF is a chronic disease, prolonged treatment is needed, raising the concern of CS-induced cutaneous adverse effects (AEs). In this observational study, we aimed to evaluate the risk for skin AEs of clobetasol propionate cream 0.05% in patients with early-stage MF. Thirteen consecutive patients with MF were treated with clobetasol propionate cream

Utility of the combination of hederagenin glucoside saponins and chromane hydrazone in the topical treatment of canine cutaneous leishmaniasis. An observational study.

Canine cutaneous leishmaniasis (CCL) is an emerging zoonotic infection endemic in several countries of the world. Due to variable response to therapy and frequency of relapses, a more effective, safer, and inexpensive treatment is needed. Recently, it was reported that the hederagenin glucoside saponins (SS) and chromane-derived hydrazone (TC2) combined in a 1:1 ratio has high potential in antileishmanial therapy since both compounds alter the survival of Leishmania and the ability to infect adjacent macrophage. Not only the skin permeation and the absorption of an ointment containing 2% TC2 a

What can chatbot conversations reveal about vaccine concerns? An observational topic modelling study for public health infoveillance.

OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic was marked by a surge of online information, including misinformation about vaccines. Health agencies recommend infoveillance to track public attitudes on immunisation, particularly during health emergencies. We sought to investigate how chatbots may serve as a novel data source for digital monitoring of vaccine concerns. Chatbots are an increasingly popular two-way health communication tool, and an analysis of anonymised chatbot inputs could identify emerging misinformation and public concerns. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We used a topic modeller and large language

Ocular effects of long term use of topical steroids among children and adolescents with vernal keratoconjunctivitis: a prospective observational study.

Topical steroids were often irrationally used on long term basis for quick relief from ocular discomfort of inflammatory eye conditions like vernal keratoconjunctivitis in spite of their well known deleterious ocular effects. The present study was undertaken to determine the ocular effects of long term use of topical steroids among the patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis and also to evaluate the ocular responses after withdrawal of steroids. The prospective observational study was carried out in a tertiary eye care centre of West Bengal. A total 150 referred patients of vernal keratoconj

A study on factors determining dose of topical lignocaine during broncho-alveolar lavage by spray-as-you-go technique: A single centre observational study.

Basic bronchoscopic diagnostic procedures like Broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL) are often performed without sedation, using lignocaine administered via the working channel of bronchoscope (spray-as-you-go technique) and other routes. Our aim was to evaluate the factors responsible for variation in the total dose of lignocaine administered in individual subjects. We prospectively included consecutive subjects undergoing BAL in an outpatient setting from August 2016 to November 2017 at our centre. The subjects were administered lignocaine via nebulization, nasal gel, oropharyngeal spray before and

Topical Finasteride 0.25% Solution for Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) in Postmenopausal Women: A 52-Week Retrospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Female pattern hair loss (FPHL), characterized by progressive follicular miniaturization, is the most common cause of hair thinning in women and increases in prevalence after menopause. While topical minoxidil is approved for FPHL, clinical response is variable. Oral finasteride is used off label in postmenopausal women but raises concerns regarding systemic adverse effects. Topical finasteride may represent an alternative with reduced systemic exposure. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted in 26 postmenopausal women with FPHL who were treated with topical fi

Analysing the effectiveness of topical bleeding care following tooth extraction in patients receiving dual antiplatelet therapy-retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Patients using antiplatelet drugs following infarctions, acute coronary syndrome or stroke pose a significant clinical problem if it is necessary to perform surgery, including dental surgery, since they are at risk of prolonged or secondary post-extraction bleeding. Discontinuation of this therapy is associated with a high risk of serious thromboembolic complications. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of TachoSil fibrin-collagen patches in stopping and preventing of secondary post-extraction bleeding in patients undergoing chronic antiplatelet therapy.
