Odontodysplasia, gingival manifestations, and accompanying abnormalities.

Regional odontodysplasia is an uncommon developmental dental disorder that may occasionally be accompanied by other abnormalities. A case is described in which the chief report was of a gingival enlargement arising in a female patient who also had dolichocephaly, thin calvarium, clinodactyly and transverse grooving of her fingernails, and a history of abnormal hair. Previously suggested etiologic factors and cases reported in association with other abnormalities are reviewed.

Solitary odontodysplasia: a rare entity.

Odontodysplasia is a rare, non-hereditary developmental anomaly affecting dental tissues derived from both the mesoderm and ectoderm which results in a bizarre clinical and radiographic appearance. Regional odontodysplasia describes the segmental and localized nature of the condition. Odontodysplasia occurring in a single tooth is a rare occurrence. A case of Solitary odontodysplasia in an eleven year and half old male whose chief complaint was the absence of eruption of permanent maxillary right central incisor teeth is presented. Clinical, radiographic and histological findings of a single t

Regional odontodysplasia: report of case.

A case of regional odontodysplasia in an 8 year-old male whose chief complaint was the absence of eruption of permanent teeth is presented. The regional odontodysplasia is a rare development anomaly of the dental tissues that affects the primary and permanent dentitions involving several adjacent teeth without crossing the midline. The clinical, radiographic and histological aspects are described as well as the treatment accomplished through surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation.

Concomitant regional odontodysplasia and hydrocephalus.

The case of a patient with concomitant regional odontodysplasia, hydrocephalus, and mental retardation is presented. Tooth eruption was retarded, probably because of the presence of a cementum-like substance on the enamel surface as well as the presence of discontinuous odontogenic epithelium that surrounded the affected teeth. Neural damage during intrauterine life is suggested as a likely cause of the dental abnormalities. This hypothesis is supported by the fact that both primary and permanent teeth in the area were affected. It is further supported by the finding of dysplastic dentin.

Mandibular Regional Odontodysplasia in a Toddler.

Regional odontodysplasia (ROD) is a rare developmental anomaly with distinctive clinical, radiographical and histological findings, affecting both primary and permanent dentitions. The teeth with ROD have an atypical morphology and are usually discolored, with either delayed eruption or complete failure to erupt. Radiographically, the affected teeth have a "ghostly" appearance, with marked radiolucency and decreased radiodensity, showing a thin outline of enamel and dentin, which appear hypomineralized histologically, with poorly structured dentinal tubules and enamel prisms. Calcifications ar

Regional odontodysplasia (Ghost teeth). A case report.

Regional odontodysplasia is a rare development anomaly affecting the teeth with an unknown etiology. This dental abnormality involves the hard tissues of the teeth that are derived from both epithelial (enamel) and mesenchymal (dentine & cementum) components of the tooth forming apparatus. Teeth in a region or quadrant of maxilla or mandible are affected to the extent that they exhibit short roots, wide open apical foramen and large pulp chamber, the thinness and poor mineralisation qualities of th enamel and dentine layers have given rise to a faint radiolucent image, hence the term "Ghost te

Infraorbital infection related to odontodysplasia: case report.

A case of a 3-year-old, white female with odontodysplasia is presented. Histological considerations and the rapid development of an infraorbital infection in this case encourage the practitioner to pursue a more aggressive treatment plan than might otherwise be considered.

Regional odontodysplasia. Report of two cases.

Two cases of regional odontodysplasia in girls are reported; one affected the lower incisors, and the other the left maxilla. The first case was radiographically followed over a 6-year period, during which time the ghost teeth exhibited significant dentin formation, along with a resultant decrease in pulp size and relative normalization of the radicular anatomy. The second case involved the deciduous molars and the first permanent molar. In addition to tooth alterations, both cases exhibited many odontogenic epithelial islands and extensive areas of calcification in the mucosa. Diagnosis, caus

Regional odontodysplasia in epidermal nevus syndrome.

Epidermal nevus syndrome is defined as a combination of nevoid skin alterations, epileptic seizures, and psychomotoric retardation. Involvement of other organs, especially the eyes, may also occur, but is not obligatory. The present report is concerned with a case that combined regional odontodysplasia with nevoid skin alterations in the overlying skin area of the face. This observation suggests that odontodysplasia may be the result of aberrations in the development and migration of cells of the neural crest occurring early in embryonic life.

Bilateral mandibular regional odontodysplasia with vascular nevus.

Odontodysplasia is a rare clinicopathologic condition that has a variety of expressions, including a range of tooth coloration, formation of hypoplastic enamel affecting one or multiple teeth, bizarre radiographic appearance, and delayed eruption of teeth. An unusual case is presented of bilateral regional odontodysplasia associated with a vascular nevus of the face and neck. A review of the etiology with emphasis on the "local circulatory disease" theory is presented.

Generalized odontodysplasia concomitant with mild hypophosphatasia--a case report.

An abnormal exfoliation pattern of the primary teeth is a sign of a systemic abnormality affecting more than just the oral structures. A prompt investigation of the cause of this condition is mandatory to identify any disease process and to initiate the required treatment. This article presents a case of mild hypophosphatasia concomitant with odontodysplasia in a 4 1/2-year-old female. The child's condition was first detected due to the early exfoliation of her primary teeth. This article also discusses the two different disease entities and the reasoning that led to the final diagnosis.

Regional Odontodysplasia in Primary Teeth: A Case Report.

Regional odontodysplasia (RO) is a rare dental anomaly that affects the development of dental tissues, resulting in amorphous, hypocalcified, hypoplastic teeth with the characteristic radiographic appearance of "ghost teeth." This study aims to report the clinical case of a patient diagnosed with RO in primary teeth. A two-year-old boy was brought to a private clinic with complaints of delayed eruption and anomalies in the upper right primary teeth. Intraoral examination revealed significant changes in the shape, color, and structure of all upper right primary teeth, including enamel hypoplasi

Regional Odontodysplasia: A Systematic Review of Case Reports.

Regional odontodysplasia is a rare developmental disorder characterised by hypoplasia and hypomineralisation of enamel and dentin. Our systematic review aimed to organise the knowledge on localisation, symptomatology and treatment methods in patients with regional odontodysplasia based on case reports published in the databases PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Case reports were described in 28 different countries, considering 180 patients (including 91 females). Regional odontodysplasia occurs mainly in both deciduous and permanent dentition (66.1%). The affected teeth were observed more fre

Regional odontodysplasia: review of the literature and report of a case.

Regional odontodysplasia is a rare and unique dental developmental anomaly that affects tooth morphogenesis. This case is unusual in that it involved the mandibular dentition. However, in this case the mandible was unilaterally involved. The presence of an abscess in relation to the lower right first permanent molar, in the absence of deep caries or periodontal pathology was an interesting finding. The radiographic appearance of bizarre pulpal morphology with high pulp horns extending to the occlusal surface would provide an open communication between the pulpal tissue and oral cavity. The imp
