Background and Purpose: Surgical conscience is a core concept in perioperative nursing practice that influences the quality and safety of perioperative care. It refers to nurses' moral responsibility to maintain surgical asepsis and ensure patient safety. Despite its central role in perioperative nursing, surgical conscience has rarely been operationalized using validated measurement tools across cultures. This study aimed to adapt the Surgical Conscience Scale into Turkish and assess its reliability and validity among operating room nurses. Methods: The scale was translated using forward and

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Knowing occupational risks in a multifactorial disease such as dry eye disease is important for disease diagnosis and treatment.
BACKGROUND: Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease of the ocular surface characterised by tear film instability, adversely affecting visual function and quality of life. The operating room environment has many risk factors for DED such as air conditioning, constant humidity, constant room temperature, intense lighting, surgical smoke, anaesthetic gases and irritating chemicals, and prolonged mask use. This study investigates the ocular

In an online survey of more than 1300 cataract surgeons and nurses, 93% believed that operating room waste is excessive and should be reduced; 78% believed that we should reuse more supplies; 90% were concerned about global warming; and 87% wanted medical societies to advocate for reducing the surgical carbon footprint. The most commonly cited reasons for excessive waste were regulatory and manufacturer restrictions on reuse or multiple use of devices, supplies, and pharmaceuticals. More than 90% believed that profit, liability reduction, and failure to consider carbon footprint drive manufact

INTRODUCTION: This study proposes the Counterfactual Risk Assessor, a deep learning framework integrating attention mechanisms for operating room nursing quality assessment and postoperative risk prediction in tumor surgery patients. The framework is motivated by the need to model heterogeneous perioperative information and dynamic clinical events more effectively than static risk assessment approaches.
METHODS: It contains three main modules: Low Dimensional Manifold Projection, Event driven Segmentation Router, and Probabilistic Outcome Modeler. The projection module learns compact represen

Operating room (OR) nurses face elevated risks of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) due to sustained awkward postures, heavy patient handling, and prolonged static loading. However, procedure-level ergonomic risk profiles across the full spectrum of OR nursing tasks remain inadequately characterized. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 25 OR nurses in a tertiary hospital in Baoding, China. Twelve common nursing procedures were systematically evaluated using the Swedish Ergonomic Hazard Identification Method (PLIBEL) for qualitative hazard screening and the Ra

BACKGROUND: Burnout is prevalent among nursing staff, especially in the operating room, which is a high-intensity, high-pressure and fast-paced work environment. As the prevalence of nurse burnout increases, reducing the burnout of operating room nurses helps to improve the physical and mental health of nurses. Thus, stabilising the nursing team can also guarantee the quality of medical care, which in turn improves patient satisfaction. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis based on the Pearson correlation coefficient to quantitatively analyse the factors related to burnout among operati

BACKGROUND: The CO (2)-Laser is an established and well-proven tool in the excision and vaporisation of laryngeal papillomatosis. Actually there exists only one report of an iatrogenous infection with the Human Papillomavirs (HPV) in a gynecological laser surgeon.
CASE REPORT: A 28-year-old gynecological operating room nurse, who assisted repeatedly in electrosurgical and lasersurgical excisions of anogenital condylomas, developed a recurrent and histologically proven laryngeal papillomatosis. The expert opinion of a virological institute confirmed a high probability of correlation between th

AIM(S): To examine work-context associations with self-reported plastic-related occupational scenario burden and perceived support priorities among operating-room nursing staff.
BACKGROUND: Operating rooms rely heavily on plastic-containing disposable materials and smoke-generating workflows, but nursing-management evidence on how staff report these occupational scenarios remains limited.
METHOD(S): This exploratory multicentre cross-sectional survey included 448 eligible nursing personnel from nine recruitment groups in China (eight hospital-based; one visiting-nurse training cohort); 415 f

BACKGROUND: The growing number of older adults undergoing surgery highlights the need for strengthened geriatric competencies among operating room (OR) nursing students. Despite this demand, geriatric-focused perioperative training remains limited in OR curricula. This study examined the effectiveness of structured, geriatric-focused clinical rounds in enhancing OR nursing students' theoretical knowledge and self-reported clinical performance in perioperative care for older adults.
METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among 64 OR nursing students allocated by clinical rotation sc

UNLABELLED: Nurse anesthesia may be a high-risk occupation for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in the workplace. We designed a cross-sectional investigation to study the prevalence of CTS in nurse anesthetists (NAs) as compared with operating room nurses (ORNs). Two-hundred forty-four female operating room workers were classified by job title as NAs (n = 63) and ORNs (n = 181). The case definition of CTS was established by a history of surgical correction or a combination of four positive historical and physical findings. There were 10 cases of CTS in NAs and 10 cases of CTS in ORNs. The crude od

Healthcare systems internationally are working under increasing demand to use finite resources with greater efficiency. The drive for efficiency utilises process improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma. This study outlines a pilot Lean Six Sigma intervention designed to release nursing time to care within a peri-operative environment; this was achieved by collaborating with stakeholders to redesign the process for laparoscopic hernia surgical case preparation (set up) material. Across 128 laparoscopic hernia surgical cases, the pilot resulted in a 55% decrease in overall nursing time
