[Postoperative antero-external tibial compartment syndrome: co-responsibility of the operating table].

A 26-year-old, ASA1 patient underwent maxillofacial surgery under general anaesthesia, of 12-hour duration in the supine position. Postoperatively he developed rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure. In the subsequent days, a bilateral leg compartment syndrome occurred with anterior tibial motor nerve injury requiring fasciotomies and excision of necrotic muscles. Several aetiological factors may have contributed to this accident: a long-lasting procedure, controlled hypotension and inappropriate position of the lower limbs. A laboratory study showed that the hardness of some new operating tab

New versatile operating room table and mobile C-arm fluoroscopic system.

The rapid development of endourologic procedures and ultrasonic renal stone surgery has left most hospital operating rooms without a suitable radiolucent operating table and a safe up-to-date C-arm fluoroscopic unit for these operations. A new radiolucent operating room table top combined with a new mobile C-arm fluoroscopy unit will allow versatility in the operating room for these percutaneous antegrade renal and ureteral operations. This table offers the additional benefits of being excellent for transurethral resection of the prostate, bladder tumors, litholapaxy, and cystoscopy as well as

Extubation on the operating table in patients with right ventricular pressure overload undergoing biventricular repair†.

OBJECTIVES: Right ventricular pressure overload, which can result in restrictive right ventricular physiology, predicts slow recovery after biventricular repair of congenital heart defects. The goal of the study was to assess how extubation in the operating room influences the postoperative course in these patients. METHODS: Between January 2013 and June 2017, a total of 65 children [median age 0.96 (0.13-9.47) years; median weight 8 (3.05-25.8) kg] with right ventricular pressure overload underwent an intracardiac correction. The most common malformations were tetralogy of Fallot (n = 34) an

In situ pinning of hip for stable slipped capital femoral epiphysis on a radiolucent operating table.

Patients with stable slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) usually can ambulate at the time of diagnosis. Satisfactory results have been reported after percutaneous in situ pinning using a fracture table. The authors describe a technique to determine the skin-pin entry point for percutaneous pinning of the hip on a regular radiolucent operating table. The pin entry point determined by this modified method was reliable in 15 SCFEs in 13 patients. Pinning on a regular radiolucent table was much easier, without the need to transfer obese patients to a fracture table. It was also useful when a

Effect of operation table height on ease of mask ventilation, laryngeal view, and endotracheal intubation success.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Optimal patient positioning and operating table height are essential for an ergonomic posture of an anesthesiologist in which there is minimal or no strain on thewrist during mask ventilation. It also avoids flexion of the neck, lower back, and knee bending at the time of laryngoscopy and intubation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred eighty patients were randomly allocated to three groups based on different table heights. The height of the table is kept at the mid-sternum level of an anesthesiologist in group 1, at the xiphoid process in group 2, and at the level of umbil

Controlled Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy Site Closure Using Flexible Hinge-Powered Operating Table.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) is a 3-column osteotomy used to correct rigid, large magnitude sagittal spinal deformity. PSO is an inherently destabilizing procedure intraoperatively, with high risk of neurological deficits from vertebral body subluxation or translation during osteotomy closure. Traditionally, PSO closure has been performed utilizing compression or cantilevering forces across adjacent level instrumentation. Such forces can loosen the instrumentation or cause abrupt subluxation or translation due to the magnitude of force required for PSO closure

Spine surgeon's kinematics during discectomy according to operating table height and the methods to visualize the surgical field.

PURPOSE: The ergonomic problems for surgeons during spine surgery are an awkward body posture, repetitive movements, increased muscle activity, an overflexed spine, and a protracted time in a standing posture. The authors analyzed whole spine angles during discectomy. The objective of this study is to assess differences in surgeon whole spines angles according to operating table height and the methods used to visualize surgical field. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cohort of 12 experienced spine surgeons was enrolled. Twelve experienced spine surgeons performed discectomy using a spine surgery simu

Wet air oxidation of table olive processing wastewater: determination of key operating parameters by factorial design.

The wet air oxidation of an effluent from edible olive processing was investigated. Semibatch experiments were conducted with 0.3L of effluent loaded into an autoclave and pure oxygen fed continuously to maintain an oxygen partial pressure of 2.5MPa. The effect of operating conditions, such as initial organic loading (from 1240 to 5150mg/L COD), reaction time (from 30 to 120min), temperature (from 140 to 180 degrees C), initial pH (from 3 to 7) and the use of 500mg/L H(2)O(2) as an additional oxidant, on treatment efficiency was assessed implementing a factorial experimental design. Impact of Operative Position on Outcomes of Proximal Femoral Nailing: A Comparison Between Supine on a Traction Table and Lateral Decubitus.

Introduction Unstable intertrochanteric fractures are common in older adults and are best stabilised with cephalomedullary nails. Surgeons favour either a supine position on a traction table or a lateral decubitus position on a standard table, yet evidence comparing their clinical value is limited and often conflicting. The traction table may simplify reduction and imaging but introduces set-up delays and post-related complications; lateral positioning avoids the post but relies on manual traction. This study aims to determine whether patient position meaningfully impacts intraoperative, radio

In situ electrospinning at the operating table to immobilise mesenchymal stem cells on the bony wall for the regeneration of osteoporotic bone defects.

Stem cell seeding is an important approach for the treatment of osteoporotic bone defects. However, existing seeding methods rely on carriers such as scaffolds to retain cells within the defect, making it difficult for cells to adhere directly to the complex surface of the bony wall. In this study, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were delivered into in vivo bone defects with a handheld electrospinning device as an improved cell seeding strategy. First, flow cytometry and related assays confirmed that electrospinning had minimal effects on MSCs viability. MSCs were then immobilised by electrospin

Sagittal alignment differences on the operating room table compared to preoperative and postoperative imaging in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion.

STUDY DESIGN: The study design used was a retrospective cohort. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to determine if intraoperative improvements in sagittal alignment on the operating table persisted on postoperative standing radiographs. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Cervical sagittal alignment may be correlated to postoperative outcomes. Since anterior cervical discectomy and fusions (ACDFs) can restore some cervical lordosis through intervertebral grafts/cages, it is important to understand if intraoperative radiographic measurements correlate with persistent postoperative radiographic

Spine surgeon's kinematics during discectomy, part II: operating table height and visualization methods, including microscope.

PURPOSE: Surgeon spine angle during surgery was studied ergonomically and the kinematics of the surgeon's spine was related with musculoskeletal fatigue and pain. Spine angles varied depending on operation table height and visualization method, and in a previous paper we showed that the use of a loupe and a table height at the midpoint between the umbilicus and the sternum are optimal for reducing musculoskeletal loading. However, no studies have previously included a microscope as a possible visualization method. The objective of this study is to assess differences in surgeon spine angles dep

Operating Table Height Optimization Reduces Surgeon Postural Load During Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Ergonomic Simulation Study.

Background: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are prevalent among orthopaedic surgeons as a result of prolonged exposure to non-neutral postures and forceful manual tasks during surgery. Although working height is a key determinant of trunk and upper-limb posture, the systematic evaluation of ergonomic working-height recommendations in orthopaedic surgery remains limited. Methods: A simulated left total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was divided into twelve critical surgical steps and analysed across four commonly used surgeon positions (A-D). Two conditions were compared: uncorrected wo

A Simple Modification for In Situ Pinning in Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis on a Radiolucent Table to Reduce Operative Time and Radiation Exposure.

BACKGROUND: In situ pinning is the mainstay treatment method in mild and moderate slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). Despite successful outcomes, some technical difficulties may be encountered during surgery, typically in overweight SCFE patients. The aim of the study is to compare the use of a bone marrow biopsy needle system to navigate the cannulated screw guidewire with the traditional in situ pinning technique. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients undergoing in situ pinning for stable mild-moderate SCFE at 2 different institutions between 2022 and 2024. Included patients

Assessment of the urinary bladder prior to cesarean delivery in women with multiple abdominal scars through operation table ultrasonography: a case report.

Bladder injury is a rare but serious complication that can occur during cesarean deliveries with an incidence of between 0.25% and 0.9%. Most bladder injuries (53%) occur upon entering the peritoneal cavity as a consequence of either extensive adhesions, a distorted pelvic anatomy, or an unexpectedly high-situated bladder owing to previous operations including a previous cesarean delivery. Patients with a previous abdominal operation can benefit from a preoperative ultrasound to identify the upper limits of an unexpectedly enlarged urinary bladder, even after preoperative catheterization. A mo
