As introduced by different studies, dental plaque is known as a reservoir of Helicobacter Pylori (HP) and a potential source for gastric re-infection. Also, it has been demonstrated that individuals with gastric HP infection manifest a greater plaque index and a higher incidence rate for gingivitis. The goal of the present research was survey of severity and prevalence of periodontal diseases associated with gastric HP infection among patients having referred to the endoscopy wards of Imam Khomeini and Milad hospitals. In this research, 122 patients with gastric HP infection were investigated

For 548 children aged 4-16 years, mean (+/- SD) age 10.3 +/- 2.7 at visit 1, the dental status was recorded at four consecutive 6-monthly visits. Simultaneously oral hygiene was scored according to a modified patient hygiene performance (PHP) index after application of disclosing solution and before the dental examination. The following cariogenic changes could be observed: initiation (white spot formation), progression (cavitation), stabilisation and regression (disappearance of a white spot). The PHP score was examined in relation to these changes in smooth surfaces, as well as in fissures.

This narrative review traces the evolution of personal oral hygiene from antiquity to the present, examining the shift from rudimentary tools to evidence-based, technologically advanced systems. Historical developments were reviewed alongside current clinical research, including systematic reviews and professional guidelines (e.g., EFP S3-level), to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and behavioral aspects of oral hygiene practices. Oral hygiene has progressed from ancient chewing sticks to modern powered toothbrushes and interdental devices. While manual toothbrushes remain effective, oscillating

At t0, examiners promised a present to the children if after 1 month they

A large epidemiological health investigation, the Helsinki Ageing Study (HAS), was performed in 1989-1991 in Helsinki, Finland. We report here the prevalence of oral mucosal lesions in 338 76-, 81- and 86-year-old home-living elderly people, who completed the oral health investigation at the Institute of Dentistry, University of Helsinki. One or more lesions were found in 128 subjects (38%). Fifty-one per cent of the edentulous complete-denture wearers and 31% of the elderly with some natural teeth had mucosal lesions. The most common finding was inflammation under the denture, which occurred

This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the literature on the oral side effects caused by radiotherapy for head and neck cancers. Various treatments are examined to mitigate these sequelae, and a protocol is proposed for dentists and dental hygienists to manage oncological patients. A literature search was conducted to select relevant articles addressing the effects of radiotherapy treatments on the oral cavity, with a particular focus on the development of mucositis, candidiasis, changes in salivary pH, trismus, fibrosis, and alterations in the oral biofilm. Maintaining healthy teeth and soft oral tissue is important. Clinical research has shown manual toothbrushes with end-rounded filaments to cause significantly less gingival abrasions than those without end-rounding. Tapered filaments are an alternative to end-rounded filaments, but there is no solid evidence for their effectiveness. For the interdental spaces that the toothbrush doesn't reach, the use of special oral hygiene aids is advised. Clinical studies of gingivitis patients have shown that both interdental brushes and plastic-rubber bristles reduce gingivitis after 4 weeks of use. Plast

A study was carried out to assess the oral hygiene practices and dental knowledge by means of a questionnaire, in a group of 239 adults in Mozambique. Despite the relatively low educational status of the sample, the level of dental knowledge appeared satisfactory. However, there still exists a need for increasing the awareness of good oral hygiene in this population.

The measurement of hydrogen-methane breath gases is widely used in gastroenterology to evaluate malabsorption syndromes and bacterial overgrowth. Laboratories offering breath testing provide variable guidance regarding oral hygiene practices prior to testing. Given that oral dysbiosis has the potential to cause changes in breath gases, it raises concerns that oral hygiene is not a standard inclusion in current breath testing guidelines. The aim of this study was to determine how a pre-test mouthwash may impact hydrogen-methane breath test results. Participants presenting for breath testing who
