Wait expectations: The impact of delisting as an outcome from the kidney transplant waitlist.

BACKGROUND: While kidney transplantation is optimal for the treatment of end-stage kidney disease, available organs do not meet demand. Little is known about the outcomes of patients who are delisted (removed from the waitlist) and unable to benefit from transplant. We describe patients who are delisted and their life expectancy after delisting. METHODS: Patients ≥ 18 years listed for deceased donor kidney transplant between 01/2003 and 12/2013 were identified in the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients and followed through 12/2018. A competing risk model was used to measure the assoc

RAISE - rheumatoid arthritis independent Swiss treatment expectations and outcome: results for the abatacept subpopulation.

QUESTIONS UNDER STUDY: Clinical trials do not necessarily reflect the results obtained in daily clinical practice. By conducting a non-interventional, observational study with biologics in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in Switzerland, we aimed to generate real-world data on reasons for treatment initiation and discontinuation, physicians' expectations for treatment, co-medication, and various treatment outcome parameters. METHODS: Sixty-nine patients with a confirmed diagnosis of RA were included in this non-interventional observational study. Participating physicians used standardised q

Expectations of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease for the outcome of laparoscopic antireflux surgery.

Goals of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment are symptom relief, healing of esophagitis, prevention of complications, and prevention of relapses. The aims of the current study were to evaluate a selected group of patients referred to our Department of General Surgery for presurgical examination (N = 70: 41 males and 29 females) for their expectations about laparoscopic antireflux surgery and to compare these expectations with the official medical treatment goals. The leading expectations for laparoscopic antireflux surgery were as follows: (1) for 92.8%, abatement of GERD-related

Bilateral Cochlear Implants: Maximizing Expected Outcomes.

Sonia is a 4 years 1 month-year-old girl with Waardenburg syndrome and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who had bilateral cochlear implants at 2 years 7 months years of age. She is referred to Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics by her speech/language pathologist because of concerns that her language skills are not progressing as expected after the cochlear implant. At the time of the implant, she communicated using approximately 20 signs and 1 spoken word (mama). At the time of the evaluation (18 months after the implant) she had approximately 70 spoken words (English and Spanish) and inn

Associations of outcome expectancies with smoking: A meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Expected positive and negative outcomes of smoking have been suggested to predict nicotine involvement. The present meta-analysis integrated research on the associations between smoking outcome expectancies and smoking. METHOD: A systematic search in the electronic databases PsycInfo, Medline, Psyndex, Google Scholar, and Web of Science identified 215 studies, which were included in a multi-level meta-analysis. RESULTS: Positive smoking outcome expectancies were associated with higher smoking levels, with expectancies that smoking reduces negative affect showing the strongest corr

Global variation and outcomes of expectant management of CSP.

The incidence of Cesarean scar pregnancies (CSPs) is rising globally. Ultrasound criteria for the diagnosis of CSPs have been described by the International Society of Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology and appear to be well used in various centers around the world. There is no guidance on best practices for expectant management of CSP, and there is considerable variation in how this is offered globally. Many studies have reported significant maternal morbidity in cases of CSP with fetal cardiac activity managed expectantly, largely relating to hemorrhage and cesarean hysterectomy from pl

Patient expectations and outcomes of successful scaphoid surgery: a prospective cohort analysis using the trauma expectation and trauma outcome measure (TEFTOM).

BACKGROUND: Scaphoid fractures are common carpal injuries that are commonly treated operatively. Increasingly, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) highlight the influence of expectations on perceived success. The Trauma Expectation and Trauma Outcome Measure (TEFTOM) is a validated instrument assessing expectations (TEF) and outcomes (TOM) across domains of pain, function, disability, injury satisfaction, and overall satisfaction. While applied in other orthopaedic trauma conditions, TEFTOM has not been previously studied in scaphoid surgery. METHODS: This prospective cohort study enrol

The Impact of Treatment Expectations on Exposure Process and Treatment Outcome in Childhood Anxiety Disorders.

This study examined the relationship between caregivers' and youths' treatment expectations and characteristics of exposure tasks (quantity, mastery, compliance) in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for childhood anxiety. Additionally, compliance with exposure tasks was tested as a mediator of the relationship between treatment expectations and symptom improvement. Data were from youth (N = 279; 7-17 years old) enrolled in the Child/Adolescent Anxiety Multimodal Study (CAMS) and randomized to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or the combination of CBT and sertraline for the treatment of sepa

Effect of pre-treatment expectations on post-treatment expectation fulfillment or outcomes in patients with distal radius fracture.

BACKGROUND: The influence of patient expectations on patient-rated outcomes (PRO) after elective orthopedic procedures has been addressed in previous studies. However, the influence of pre-treatment expectations on post-treatment PRO was rarely examined in patients with extremity fractures. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if pre-treatment expectations have an effect on post-treatment expectation fulfillment or PRO in patients surgically and conservatively managed for distal radius fractures (DRFs). Greater expectations: using hierarchical linear modeling to examine expectancy for treatment outcome as a predictor of treatment response.

A client's expectation that therapy will be beneficial has long been considered an important factor contributing to therapeutic outcomes, but recent empirical work examining this hypothesis has primarily yielded null findings. The present study examined the contribution of expectancies for treatment outcome to actual treatment outcome from the start of therapy through 12-month follow-up in a clinical sample of individuals (n=72) treated for fear of flying with either in vivo exposure or virtual reality exposure therapy. Using a piecewise hierarchical linear model, outcome expectancy predicted

Measuring Gambling Outcome Expectancies in Adolescents: Testing the Psychometric Properties of a Modified Version of the Gambling Expectancy Questionnaire.

The Gambling Expectancy Questionnaire (GEQ; Gillespie et al. 2007a) is a 23-item scale assessing three positive outcome expectancies (Enjoyment/Arousal, Money, Self-Enhancement) and two negative outcome expectancies (Over-Involvement, Emotional Impact) related to gambling. It is the most used instrument to assess gambling outcome expectancies in adolescents and it has good psychometric properties. To allow a greater and more useful application of the scale, the present study aimed to modify the GEQ to make it usable with all adolescents, regardless of their gambling behaviour and to verify its

Co-rumination between friends: Considering the roles of outcome expectations, relationship provisions, and perceptions of problems.

Despite its implications for adjustment, little is known about factors that support co-rumination in friendships. The current multi-method, longitudinal study addressed this question with 554 adolescents (Mage = 14.50; 52% girls; 62% White; 31% Black; 7% Asian American) from the Midwestern United States in 2007-2010. Adolescents were observed talking about problems with a friend and reported on their outcome expectations for problem disclosures, relationship provisions during problem talk, and problem perceptions after problem talk. Participants reported on outcome expectations again 9 months

Outcome expectancy and suboptimal risky choice in nonhuman primates.

Animals will favor a risky option when a stimulus signaling reward bridges the choice and the outcome. The present experiments investigated signal-induced risky choices and reward-outcome expectations in rhesus and capuchin monkeys. Risky choice was assessed by preference for a large-probabilistic reward over a modest-certain reward. Outcome expectancy was assessed by providing a truncation-response to shorten the delay period. In Experiment 1 both species generally favored the risky option compared to a safe option when the outcomes were signaled and generally shortened the delays except when

The relationship between expected engagement and talking therapy outcome.

The aim of the study was to investigate whether client-reported expected engagement with therapy predicted therapy outcome. It was hypothesized that higher expected engagement with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or person-centred experiential therapy (PCET) would predict more symptomatic improvement following therapy and higher likelihood of therapy completion. The Sheffield Expected Engagement with Therapy Scale was administered to 96 clients at pre-therapy assessment with all meeting a diagnosis of moderate or severe depression with 53 receiving CBT and 43 receiving PCET. Outcome expectancies and gambling behavior among urban adolescents.

This project sought to identify adolescent outcome expectancies for gambling and to evaluate their relation to gambling behavior among a sample of urban adolescents. In a preliminary study, 50 outcome expectancies were identified on the basis of a literature review or generated after surveying 35 urban high school students. These expectancies were then administered to 1,076 urban high school students. Rates of at-risk and problem gambling were 14.6% and 12.7%, respectively. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed on randomly selected halves of the sample and identified 5 ex
