Two infants, 5 and 12 weeks of age, with lingual cysts were presented. Histological findings were compatible with a salivary retention cyst in one and a thyroglossal duct cyst in the other. Between 1983 and 1987, 22 women underwent breast-preserving treatment for T1 (n = 19) or T2 (n = 3) cancer. Sonography or palpation alone are inadequate procedures in evaluating cervical function. Only by combining both methods cervical incompetence can be detected at an early stage, adequate therapy instituted and unnecessary cerclage operations prevented. We have reviewed 1066 thyroid lesions and compared the relative incidence of the so called 'palpation thyroiditis' between autoimmune thyroiditis and normal thyroid parenchyme surrounding the nodular thyroid lesion and also discussed the pathogenesis of palpation thyroiditis. The typical histopathologic features of 'palpation thyroiditis' were seen in 275 cases among 467 adenomatous goiters and in none of the autoimmune thyroiditis. Cervical vagal schwannoma is an uncommon, benign neoplasm. It is usually asymptomatic and presents as a painless, palpable mass in the neck. However, large schwannomas can cause dysphagia, dysphonia or dyspnea as a result of compression. We report a case of an extremely rare complication of vagal schwannoma in which neck palpation induced the patient to cough. As the patient refused any surgical intervention, conservative management was used.
