Dynamic Sparse Mask Spatial-Frequency System Matrix Compression for Accelerated Reconstruction in Narrowband Magnetic Particle Imaging.

OBJECTIVE: Narrowband magnetic particle imaging (MPI), owing to its inherently high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), has shown strong potential for enabling large-field-of-view (FOV) scanners suitable for human-scale imaging. System-matrix (SM)-based reconstruction can effectively suppress image blurring and negative artifacts. However, enlarging the FOV greatly increases the SM size, leading to prohibitive memory usage and prolonged reconstruction time. METHODS: To address this challenge, we propose a Spatial-Frequency System Matrix (SF-SM) approach that exploits the sparse representation of cal

Induction of genomic instability in TK6 human lymphoblasts exposed to 137Cs gamma radiation: comparison to the induction by exposure to accelerated 56Fe particles.

The induction of genomic instability in TK6 human lymphoblasts by exposure to (137)Cs gamma radiation was investigated by measuring the frequency and characteristics of unstable clones isolated approximately 36 generations after exposure. Clones surviving irradiation and control clones were analyzed for 17 characteristics including chromosomal aberrations, growth defects, alterations in response to a second irradiation, and mutant frequencies at the thymidine kinase and Na(+)/K(+) ATPase loci. Putative unstable clones were defined as those that exhibited a significant alteration in one or more

Engineered Atom-Particle Coupling in Dice-Like Hollow Carbon Cages Accelerates Oxygen Electrocatalysis for Efficient Zinc-Air Batteries.

Sluggish oxygen electrocatalytic kinetics and diffusion limitations remain key barriers to high-performance zinc-air batteries (ZABs). Herein, we report a dice-like Co/N codoped hollow carbon cage catalyst (Co/N-HCC) featuring efficient atom-particle coupled Co single atoms and nanoparticles (CoSA&CoNP) confined within a hierarchically porous framework via a self-templated surface-confinement strategy. Calculations and in situ spectroelectrochemical experiments suggest that the atom-particle electronic coupling triggers substantial interfacial charge redistribution and tunes the d-band center

Clustered VEGF Nanoparticles in Microporous Annealed Particle (MAP) Hydrogel Accelerates Functional Recovery and Brain Tissue Repair after Stroke.

Ischemic stroke, a blockage in the vasculature of the brain that results in insufficient blood flow, is one of the world's leading causes of disability. The cascade of inflammation and cell death that occurs immediately following stroke drives vascular and functional loss that does not fully recover over time, and no FDA-approved therapies exist that stimulate regeneration post-stroke. We have previously developed a hydrogel scaffold that delivered heparin nanoparticles with and without VEGF bound to their surface to promote angiogenesis and reduce inflammation, respectively. However, the incl

Electromagnetic induction of nanoscale zerovalent iron particles accelerates the degradation of chlorinated dense non-aqueous phase liquid: Proof of concept.

In this study, a novel electromagnetically enhanced treatment concept is proposed for in situ remediation of a source zone of chlorinated dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) that is slowly dissolved, causing contaminated groundwater for centuries. Here, we used polystyrene sulfonate (PSS)-modified nanoscale zerovalent iron (NZVI) particles (ferromagnetic) in combination with a low frequency (LF) (150 kHz) AC electromagnetic field (EMF) to accelerate the degradation of the DNAPLs via enhanced dissolution and reductive dechlorination. Trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) were

Accelerated dissolution testing conditions of long-acting injectable suspensions: an exploration of dissolution rate and particle behaviour through in vitro imaging and in silico methods.

Long-acting injectables (LAIs) bring patient benefits of more steady drug plasma concentrations and increased compliance. Developing LAI dissolution/release testing methods, including accelerated methods, is challenging due to a lack of understanding of in vivo processes and in vitro parameters affecting release. This work aimed to explore the impact of simple changes in surfactant concentration and flow rate on accelerated LAI in vitro dissolution tests and to examine how these changes affect the effective exposed surface area and relative particle-fluid velocity using particle motion simulat

Dobutamine, Epinephrine, and Milrinone Accelerate Particle Transport Velocity in Murine Tracheal Epithelium via Ca2+ Release from Caffeine-Sensitive Internal Stores.

Mucociliary clearance, the ability of the respiratory tract to protect the integrity of the airways through the mechanical removal of potentially harmful substances, is of enormous importance during intensive care treatment. The present study aimed to evaluate the influence of clinically relevant inotropic agents on mucociliary clearance. The particle transport velocity (PTV) of isolated murine tracheae was measured as a surrogate for mucociliary clearance in the presence of dobutamine, epinephrine, and milrinone. Inhibitory substances were applied to elucidate the signal transduction cascades

Microenvironment-Responsive Antibacterial, Anti-Inflammatory, and Antioxidant Pickering Emulsion Stabilized by Curcumin-Loaded Tea Polyphenol Particles for Accelerating Infected Wound Healing.

Multiphase Pickering emulsions, including two or more active agents, are of great importance to effectively manage complicated wounds. However, current strategies based on Pickering emulsions are still unsatisfying since they involve only stabilization by inactive particles and encapsulation of the hydrophobic drugs in the oil phase. Herein, thyme essential oil (TEO) was encapsulated in the shell of functional tea polyphenol (TP)-curcumin (Cur) nanoparticles (TC NPs) to exemplarily develop a novel Pickering emulsion (TEO/TC PE). Hydrophobic Cur was loaded with hydrophilic TP to obtain TC NPs,

Studies on novel chitosan/alginate and chitosan/bentonite flexible films incorporated with ZnO nano particles for accelerating dermal burn healing: In vivo and in vitro evaluation.

This research work was performed to prepare chitosan-alginate-gelatin and chitosan-bentonite-gelatin films in different mass ratios incorporated with nano particles of Zinc Oxide, which were achieved through the method of green synthesis from Nettle leaf extract. The films were prepared and characterized based on their physicochemical properties, such as water absorption and porosity and surface morphology. Bentonite containing films illustrate more flexibility than alginate ones while the chitosan/bentonite composite films have a maximum water absorption capacity of about 170%. The antibacter

A 20:1 synergetic mixture of cafedrine/theodrenaline accelerates particle transport velocity in murine tracheal epithelium via IP3 receptor-associated calcium release.

Background: Mucociliary clearance is a pivotal physiological mechanism that protects the lung by ridding the lower airways of pollution and colonization by pathogens, thereby preventing infections. The fixed 20:1 combination of cafedrine and theodrenaline has been used to treat perioperative hypotension or hypotensive states due to emergency situations since the 1960s. Because mucociliary clearance is impaired during mechanical ventilation and critical illness, the present study aimed to evaluate the influence of cafedrine/theodrenaline on mucociliary clearance. Material and Methods: The parti

A Pilot Trial of Proton-Based Cardiac Sparing Accelerated Fractionated Radiation Therapy in Unresectable Non-small Cell Lung Cancer With Extended Durvalumab Therapy (PARTICLE-D).

PURPOSE: Concurrent chemoradiation therapy is the current nonsurgical standard of care for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer. However, this is a difficult regimen to tolerate, especially for those who are elderly, have multiple comorbidities, or have poor performance status. Alternative treatment regimens are needed for this vulnerable population. We report initial results of concurrent durvalumab, an immune checkpoint inhibitor, and hypofractionated, dose-escalating, proton external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). METHODS AND MATERIALS: This phase 1, pilot dose escalation trial enro

Mitigation of the Hose Instability in Plasma-Wakefield Accelerators.

Current models predict the hose instability to crucially limit the applicability of plasma-wakefield accelerators. By developing an analytical model which incorporates the evolution of the hose instability over long propagation distances, this work demonstrates that the inherent drive-beam energy loss, along with an initial beam-energy spread, detunes the betatron oscillations of beam electrons and thereby mitigates the instability. It is also shown that tapered plasma profiles can strongly reduce initial hosing seeds. Hence, we demonstrate that the propagation of a drive beam can be stabilize

Deep learning for robust orbit control of Elettra 2.0 storage ring.

Recent advancements in light source accelerators have significantly enhanced beam quality. These accelerators are continually upgraded to meet scientific demands. A key element of their design is the precise control of particle orbits and the correction of errors to maintain a stable, high-quality beam. To facilitate the automatic electron beam position correction, we propose a computational framework to control the beam based on the Elettra 2.0 storage ring lattice, a process commonly known as orbit control. Our method exclusively relies on beam position monitors to predict the correctors' ma
