Partnerships and practices: a scoping review of engaging older adults living with frailty in the research process.

BACKGROUND: Frailty is a multidimensional condition that increases vulnerability to poor health outcomes, yet older adults living with frailty are often underrepresented in research or involved only in limited ways. Engaging people with lived experience can improve the relevance, acceptability, and impact of research, but little is known about the involvement of older adults living with frailty across the research process. This scoping review explored how engagement is practiced, the roles older adults play at different stages of research, and the effectiveness of these approaches. METHOD: Th

Using research-practice-policy partnerships to mitigate the effects of childhood trauma on educator burnout.

BACKGROUND: The effects of COVID-19 pandemic on children have been immense. OBJECTIVE: In this commentary, we argue for the need to utilize research-practice-policy partnerships to address the issue of educator burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: Education systems have the potential to be the site of public health interventions in helping to identify and address the needs of children and families. METHODS: In this commentary, we review the literature on child trauma and adversity, educator burnout, and research-practice-policy partnerships. RESULTS: With the r

Evaluating Partnerships for Practice Change in the Prevention, Identification, and Treatment of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.

BACKGROUND: In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded a four-year partnership effort between university and health care professional associations (HCPAs) to reach health care providers (HCPs) nationally in six health disciplines and engage them to adopt evidence-based practices for the prevention, identification, and treatment of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs). The aim of this project was to evaluate partnerships for their (1) structure and formation, (2) collaboration process, and (3) outcomes with regard to resources and strategies developed for FASD prevention

Importance of Public-Private Partnerships: Strengthening Laboratory Medicine Systems and Clinical Practice in Africa.

After the launch of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in 2003, it became evident that inadequate laboratory systems and services would severely limit the scale-up of human immunodeficiency virus infection prevention, care, and treatment programs. Thus, the Office of the US Global AIDS Coordinator, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Becton, Dickinson and Company developed a public-private partnership (PPP). Between October 2007 and July 2012, the PPP combined the competencies of the public and private sectors to boost sustainable laboratory systems and develop workf

Development of the physician-pharmacist partnership intervention to deprescribe medications (P3iD) and its feasibility in clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: Polypharmacy and the use of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) are major concerns in managing older adults with multiple chronic conditions, as they can increase the risk of adverse drug reactions. However, data on deprescribing interventions for older persons in lower- to middle-income countries (LMIC) remains limited. PURPOSE: To develop and evaluate the feasibility of the Physician-Pharmacist Partnership Intervention to Deprescribe Medications (P3iD) among ambulatory older persons. METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The P3iD, a health workforce model intervention for deprescribin

Building an Evidence-Based Parent Education and Awareness Program in New York Courts: a Research-Practice Partnership.

Parent education is widespread and institutionalized in family courts across the USA, reflecting decades of research showing that children are at heightened risk for mental health and related problems following parental separation and divorce. Given their reach and scale, these programs represent one of the largest yet underutilized opportunities for prevention in the country. To bridge the gap between prevention science and court practice, we formed a research-practice partnership between the New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program (PEAP) and university prevention scientists to

Virtual teaching and power dynamics: Implications for decolonial practices in LIC-HIC educational partnerships.

INTRODUCTION: Global collaborations, particularly those between low-income (LIC) and high-income countries (HIC), may inadvertently reproduce the very power differentials they aspire to overcome. The Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration (TAAAC) is a partnership model deliberately built to follow a relational and invited guest model of collaboration with in-person teaching visits by University of Toronto (UofT) faculty to teach within Addis Ababa University (AAU) programmes. The COVID-19 pandemic required that teaching be conducted virtually, which provided an opportunity to explore our a

Dyadic interactions and injecting practices: Unpacking the role of interpersonal dynamics in drug injection partnerships.

BACKGROUND: High-risk injecting behaviors often occur in the context of injecting partnerships, yet how interpersonal (dyadic) dynamics shape individual injecting practices remains poorly characterized. METHODS: Baseline cross-sectional data from 131 injecting partnerships (262 dyad-member observations) in San Francisco and Montreal were analyzed. Injecting-related interpersonal factors (trust, power imbalance, risk perception, intimacy, and cooperation) were measured using the validated 54-item Interpersonal Dynamics in Injecting Partnerships (IDIP) scale. Concurrent partnerships and HIV prevalence disparities by race: linking science and public health practice.

Concurrent sexual partnerships may help to explain the disproportionately high prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections among African Americans. The persistence of such disparities would also require strong assortative mixing by race. We examined descriptive evidence from 4 nationally representative US surveys and found consistent support for both elements of this hypothesis. Using a data-driven network simulation model, we found that the levels of concurrency and assortative mixing observed produced a 2.6-fold racial disparity in the epidemic potential among young African A

Role of an Intermediary Organization and State Government Partnership to Advance Practice and Policy in Children's Behavioral Health.

Policymakers navigating an increasingly complex and evolving landscape can benefit from establishing intersectoral partnerships with researchers, providers, schools, family advocates, and other stakeholders in children's behavioral health. Intermediary organizations, which serve as neutral conveners to bridge cross-system improvements to systems, policy, and practice, are relatively new but are increasing in number and offer an efficient way to support government with strengthening partnerships and systems. We describe an evolving 25-year-long partnership between an independent non-profit inte

Lessons learned from an academic and clinical partnership to address barriers and facilitators of cannabis education and practice.

BACKGROUND: As cannabis legalization has increased its availability, nurses are seeing an increased demand for education that incorporates the latest research, innovation and acceptance of cannabis as medicine among medical professionals. Cannabis nurses, who focus on the care of healthcare consumers seeking education and guidance on therapeutic cannabis use, are well-positioned to meet this need. However, research on nurse-led cannabis education and practice remains scarce. A focus group of 8 key clinical stakeholders (e.g., naturopaths, physicians, and cannabis nurses) was conducted to under

Strengthening School Safety Through Governmental Research-Practice Partnerships: the Arizona School Safety Program.

Government research-practice partnerships (GRPPs) can bridge the gap between empirical research and policy implementation. However, it remains unclear precisely how state-level governmental agencies navigate evidence-based policymaking. The ongoing collaboration between the Arizona Department of Education and the research team at Arizona State University began as a need for an annual evaluation of the School Safety Program, which aims to improve school safety by providing funding and training to school resource officers and school mental health professionals throughout the state. Applying Best Practices from CAPs to a Community-Academic-Corrections Partnership: Academic Partner Perspectives.

BACKGROUND: While correctional systems often function separately from academic and community-based organizations, there is opportunity for mutually beneficial collaborative partnerships to strengthen services and relationships. Community-academic partnerships (CAPs) are a well-established model in implementation science and in scientific literature. Applying best practices for CAPs to a partnership that includes community, academic, and correctional partners could contribute to a stronger partnership with more capacity to improve population health of people who experience incarceration. Vehicles for Consolidation and Expansion of Physician Practices: Private Equity, Medical Services Organizations, and Strategic Partnerships.

As reimbursements decline and the health care sector experiences consolidation, running a small practice is increasingly difficult. The past 15 years has seen a significant rise in practice consolidation, private equity investment, and regional health system affiliation. In a rapidly changing health care landscape, positioning one's practice for the future is challenging. The trade-off between financial stability and loss of control over the business and physician autonomy is often front and center in choosing our strategic partnerships. The long-term effects of these changes in practice dynam

Academic partnerships with clinical nurse scientist mentors improve the Doctor of Nursing Practice student experience.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree has become firmly established as the terminal practice degree for advanced practice registered nurses in the United States. A defining component of the DNP curriculum requires students to implement a scholarly project that addresses a clinical problem and improves patient or system outcomes. This article describes the development and implementation of a structured clinical-academic partnership between a university-based DNP nurse anesthesia program and a pediatric health care organization in the southeastern United States. Central to this collaborati

Community-Led Transformation in Practice: A Framework for Trust-Driven Community-Academic Partnerships to Advance Public Health.

Community-academic partnerships are increasingly recognized as essential for advancing equitable public health outcomes. Yet many partnerships struggle to move beyond short-term, project-based collaboration toward sustained, trust-based engagement with communities. This commentary draws on the experience of the University of California San Diego Center for Community Health (CCH) and its long-standing partnerships with immigrant, refugee, and other underserved communities in San Diego County. Over more than two decades of practice, CCH and its community partners developed the Community-Led Tran

Navigating new sexual partnerships in midlife: a socioecological perspective on factors shaping STI risk perceptions and practices.

OBJECTIVE: Despite increases in STIs among those over 40, little is known about the social context of STI transmission among people experiencing relationship transition in midlife, and few sexual health promotion initiatives are targeted at this group. This study sought to identify factors shaping STI risk perceptions and practices among midlife individuals either contemplating or having sex with new partners following the end of a long-term relationship. METHODS: Participants were purposively selected from respondents to Britain's third National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, usi
