The Autonomic Nervous System Questionnaire and the Brief Patient Health Questionnaire as screening instruments for panic disorder in Finnish primary care.

PURPOSE: As panic disorder often remains unrecognized in the health care system, some screening methods have been developed to enhance its recognition. The aim of this study was to test and compare the Autonomic Nervous System Questionnaire (ANS) and the Brief Patient Health Questionnaire (BPHQ) in primary care. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A total sample of 211 primary care outpatients was studied. The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV was the criterion standard for the presence of panic disorder. Indices of diagnostic utility for both screening methods were calculated and compared. RESULTS

Validity of the patient health questionnaire 9-item in autistic youths: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Autistic adolescents have greater predisposition to depression and suicidality than neurotypical adolescents. Early detection is essential for timely treatment. The Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item (PHQ-9) is a brief screen for depression. The study examines the validity of the PHQ-9 for detecting major depressive disorder (MDD) in autistic youths. METHODS: English speaking youths aged 10-18 years, with DSM-IV/DSM-5/ICD-10 diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and their parents presenting to a child psychiatric service were invited to participate between May 2018 to Augu

Depression in Aboriginal men in central Australia: adaptation of the Patient Health Questionnaire 9.

BACKGROUND: While Indigenous Australians are believed to be at a high risk of psychological illness, few screening instruments have been designed to accurately measure this burden. Rather than simply transposing western labels of symptoms, this paper describes the process by which a screening tool for depression was specifically adapted for use across multiple Indigenous Australian communities. METHOD: Potential depression screening instruments were identified and interrogated according to a set of pre-defined criteria. A structured process was then developed which relied on the expertise of

[The anesthesiological questionnaire for patients in the outpatient context : Investigations on patient state of health after outpatient operations using the anesthesiological questionnaire for patients].

BACKGROUND: The evaluation of German postanesthesia questionnaires is often restricted to inpatient medical care. The anesthesiological questionnaire for patients (ANP) has previously been validated only after medical care of inpatients. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the validity of the ANP in the context of outpatient surgery and anesthesia. METHODS: Data from 4547 patients (mean age 18-89 years, sex: m/f, 55%/45%), scheduled for ambulatory orthopedic and trauma surgery, were analyzed. All patients received a standard induction of anesthesia with propofol, sufentani

Validation of the Health Assessment Questionnaire disability index in patients with gout.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the psychometric properties of the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) disability index (DI) in patients with gout. METHODS: This study was conducted in a multicenter cohort of patients with gout whose data were collected at baseline (time 0) and 6 months later (time 6). Reliability was assessed by test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient). Construct validity was assessed with convergent validity (HAQ DI correlation with Short Form 36 [SF-36]) and discriminative validity (HAQ DI correlation

An Item-Level Analysis of Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) Among Adolescents in Primary Care.

OBJECTIVE: Adolescents are at increased risk for meeting diagnostic criteria for depression and chronic impairments in functioning. Despite the potential consequences, adolescents have poor access to mental health treatment. To increase access, professional organizations recommend pediatricians regularly screen for symptoms of depression with the goal of identifying, preventing, and treating depression. The Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) has become a frequently used screener in primary care due to its brevity and well-established psychometric properties among both adults and adolescents.

Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Is a Valid Assessment for Depression in Minimally Invasive Lumbar Discectomy.

ObjectiveThe Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) is a screening tool for evaluating depressive symptoms. Research is scarce regarding the validity and correlation of PHQ-9 scores with other patient-reported outcomes of mental health after minimally invasive lumbar discectomy (MIS LD). We aim to validate PHQ-9 as a metric for assessing mental health in MIS LD patients.MethodsA database was retrospectively reviewed for patients who underwent elective, single-level MIS LD. Patients were excluded if they had incomplete preoperative PHQ-9, 12-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12), or Veterans RA

Patient health questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15) to distinguish bipolar II disorder from major depressive disorder.

A sequential-recruited clinical trial has been conducted to assess capacity of Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15) in distinguishing bipolar II disorder from major depressive disorder. A total of 73 patients (49 BD-II depression patients) filled sociodemographic characteristics, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Questionnaire (GAD-7), and PHQ-15. Sum score of PHQ-15 showed statistically significant difference in the two groups (t-test, P = 0.027). The area under the curve was 0.663 (P = 0.025), and the specificity was 0.75 at sum score of 13. Prediction of Positive Patient Health Questionnaire-2 Screening Using Area Deprivation Index in Primary Care.

Depression is recognized as a significant public health issue in the United States. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health reports that 21.0 million adults aged 18 or older had major depressive disorder in 2020, including 14.8 million experiencing a major depressive episode with severe impairment. The aim is to predict the positivity of Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) outcomes among patients in primary care settings by analyzing a range of variables, including socioeconomic status, demographic characteristics, and health behaviors, thereby identifying those at increased risk for dep

Validation of Shona Symptom Questionnaire (SSQ-14), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalised Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7) in Unguja Island, Zanzibar.

BACKGROUND: Due to the dearth of resources in low- and middle-income countries, the use of culturally appropriate and psychometrically robust screening tools for common mental disorders (CMDs) administrable by lay health workers (LHWs) is critical to both identifying people that need care and collecting prevalence data to inform policy decisions. The Shona Symptom Questionnaire (SSQ-14), Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) were validated as part of introducing the Friendship Bench in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Quality of life and mental health status in patients with lichen planopilaris based on Dermatology Life Quality Index and General Health Questionnaire-28 questionnaires.

BACKGROUND: Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is a relatively uncommon inflammatory skin condition that causes permanent hair loss. Irreversible hair loss can have a significant psychosocial and psychological impact on patients' lives. Limited studies have assessed the psychological status of patients suffering from LPP, and to our knowledge, none have evaluated patients with LPP as a separate group in this regard. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the quality of life (QoL) and general health of patients with LPP using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire and General Health Que

Somatic symptoms have negligible impact on Patient Health Questionnaire-9 depression scale scores in neurological patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: There is concern that the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) depression scale may be impacted by the presence of somatic symptoms (differential item functioning [DIF]) in patients with neurological conditions. We evaluated the PHQ-9 for the presence and impact of DIF in large clinical samples of neurological patients. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of patients seen at the Cleveland Clinic Cerebrovascular, Headache, Movement Disorder, and Neuromuscular clinics who completed the PHQ-9 and patient-reported disease severity measures as part of standard c
