Sex determination in German Mast geese (Anser anser) with 3D modeling pelvimetry examination.

BACKGROUND: The avian pelvis is known to differ in shape between males and females due to the need for females to lay eggs, with egg shape correlating to pelvic shape. Geese breeding is done as an alternative to the poultry sector in our country for meat and, to a lesser extent, eggs. However, in recent years, there has been an increase in the number of those who are breeding geese as large enterprises. Understanding the anatomical structure of geese is essential. With 3D-modeling studies the use of artificial intelligence has increased and thus artificial intelligence has taken its place in t

Pelvimetry for fetal cephalic presentations at or near term for deciding on mode of delivery.

BACKGROUND: Pelvimetry assesses the size of a woman's pelvis aiming to predict whether she will be able to give birth vaginally or not. This can be done by clinical examination, or by conventional X-rays, computerised tomography (CT) scanning, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of pelvimetry (performed antenatally or intrapartum) on the method of birth, on perinatal mortality and morbidity, and on maternal morbidity. This review concentrates exclusively on women whose fetuses have a cephalic presentation. SEARCH METHODS: We searched Cochrane Pregnancy and

Can MRI pelvimetry predict the technical difficulty of laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery?

PURPOSE: Selection of an open or minimally invasive approach to total mesorectal excision (TME) is generally based on surgeon preference and an intuitive assessment of patient characteristics but there consensus on criteria to predict surgical difficulty. Pelvimetry has been used to predict the difficult surgical pelvis, typically using only bony landmarks. This study aimed to assess the relationship between pelvic soft tissue measurements on preoperative MRI and surgical difficulty. METHODS: Preoperative MRIs for patients undergoing laparoscopic rectal resection in the Australasian Laparosco

Pelvimetry in nulliparous and primiparous women using 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging.

AIMS: To perform pelvimetry in nulliparous and primiparous women using 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (3T MRI). METHODS: Twenty-five nulliparous volunteers and 25 primiparous women underwent pelvic 3T MRI within one week after vaginal childbirth in a prospective clinical single-center trial. The pelvimetric parameters interspinous distance (ISD), intertuberous distance (ITD), sagittal outlet (SO), obstetric conjugate (OC), and coccygeal curved length (CCL) were adapted from anthropometric measurements as well as from sonographic and computed tomography-based pelvimetry performed on high-r

Vaginal breech deliveries selected using computed tomographic pelvimetry may be associated with fewer adverse outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: Vaginal breech (VB) delivery at term remains controversial. Our objective was to compare neonatal and maternal outcomes in VB deliveries selected using computed tomographic (CT) pelvimetry to those selected clinically. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of singleton, term, VB deliveries with adequate clinical pelvimetry and estimated fetal weight of 3,850 g was performed. Women in the CT group had adequate pelvimetry by CT measurements. Neonatal and maternal outcomes were recorded. RESULTS: Of the VB deliveries, 58 women had adequate CT pelvimetry and 37 women were selected usi

Pelvimetry and patient acceptability compared between open 0.5-T and closed 1.5-T MR systems.

Our objective was to compare maternal pelvimetry and patient acceptability between open low-field (0.5-T) and closed 1.5-T MR systems. Thirty women referred for pelvimetry (pregnant: n=15) were scanned twice in the supine position, once in the vertical open system and once in the closed system. Each patient completed a comfort and acceptability questionnaire. Pelvimetric and questionnaire data were compared between systems. Total scan time was double in the open system (7:52+/-1:47 vs 3:12+/-1:20 min). Poor image quality in the open system prevented assessment of interspinous and intertuberous

[Obstetric pelvimetry using nuclear magnetic resonance tomography (MRI): clinical experiences with 150 patients].

Between Oct. 1987 and Oct. 1991 150 patients of the Frauenklinik Freiburg were examined by MR pelvimetry (MRI), 135 of which were "ante partum", i.e. just before delivery. The indications were: earlier operative or strongly protracted delivery, clinical suspicion of disproportion between head and pelvis, or obstetrical "problem pelvis" indicated by manual pelvic examination or ultrasonic foetometry. Previous experimental measurements with a phantom and the comparison with conventional radiograms by Guthmann and Martius of 10 patients in puerperium have shown, that the mean divergence was +/- 2

Diagnostic Value of Clinical Pelvimetry and Sonopelvimetry in Determining Mode of Delivery in Nulliparous Women.

BACKGROUND: Normal morphological features of the maternal pelvis are important prerequisites for vaginal delivery. Clinical pelvimetry and sonopelvimetry are inexpensive methods of assessing pelvic capacity. This study aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of clinical pelvimetry and sonopelvimetry in predicting the mode of delivery in nulliparous women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 210 nulliparous women who came for delivery were assessed regarding their clinical and trans-abdominal ultrasonographic pelvimetry characteristics. Parameters including sacral promontor

The predictability of labor outcome from a comparison of birth weight and x-ray pelvimetry.

The value of x-ray pelvimetry in labor has recently been questioned by many, although few morphometric data on the fetopelvic relationship have been presented. Fifty-one women who had dysfunctional labor, in whom both x-ray pelvimetry and oxytocin were used during clinical management, were studied. Twenty-seven were delivered by cesarean section, while 24 were delivered vaginally. Regression equations were developed for multiple pelvic indices versus birth weight. The analysis revealed no differences between the vaginal group and the cesarean section group. The design of this study suggests th

Accuracy and Reliability of Pelvimetry Measures Obtained by Manual or Automatic Labeling of Three-Dimensional Pelvic Models.

(1) Background: The morphology of the pelvic cavity is important for decision-making in obstetrics. This study aimed to estimate the accuracy and reliability of pelvimetry measures obtained when radiologists manually label anatomical landmarks on three-dimensional (3D) pelvic models. A second objective was to design an automatic labeling method. (2) Methods: Three operators segmented 10 computed tomography scans each. Three radiologists then labeled 12 anatomical landmarks on the pelvic models, which allowed for the calculation of 15 pelvimetry measures. Additionally, an automatic labeling met

The diagnostic accuracy of external pelvimetry and maternal height to predict dystocia in nulliparous women: a study in Cameroon.

OBJECTIVE: In many developing countries, most women deliver at home or in facilities without operative capability. Identification before labour of women at risk of dystocia and timely referral to a district hospital for delivery is one strategy to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Our objective was to assess the prediction of dystocia by the combination of maternal height with external pelvimetry, and with foot length and symphysis-fundus height. DESIGN: A prospective cohort study. SETTING: Three maternity units in Yaoundé, Cameroon. POPULATION: A total of 807 consecuti

Vaginal breech delivery: a five-year prospective evaluation of a protocol using computed tomographic pelvimetry.

In 1983 a protocol was established at our institution that used computed tomographic pelvimetry to evaluate patients presenting with a singleton term frank breech fetus for an attempt at vaginal delivery. The criteria for a trial of labor were singleton fetus, term gestation (37 to 42 weeks' gestation from the first day of the last menstrual period), frank breech presentation, estimated fetal weight 2000 to 4000 gm, non-extended fetal head, and adequate computed tomographic pelvimetry. Two digital radiographs and a tomographic cross-section were taken of each patient, i.e., an anteroposterior

Study on sex differences and potential clinical value of three-dimensional computerized tomography pelvimetry in rectal cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery is a complex procedure affected by various factors. However, the existing literature lacks standardized parameters for the pelvic region and soft tissues, which hampers the establishment of consistent conclusions. AIM: To comprehensively assess 16 pelvic and 7 soft tissue parameters through computerized tomography (CT)-based three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction, providing a strong theoretical basis to address challenges in laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery. METHODS: We analyzed data from 218 patients who underwent radical lapar

Late gestation MRI to assess maternal pelvimetry, fetal biometry and placental oxygenation: a retrospective pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The role of MRI pelvimetry and fetal size estimation in predicting mode of birth and risk of operative birth have been studied. However, there are no complete MRI studies that assess the maternal pelvis, fetal dimensions, and the placenta in a single protocol, in order to better inform the likelihood of operative vaginal birth or emergency caesarean section. Therefore, the aim of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of obtaining a comprehensive prelabour assessment of maternal pelvimetry and fetal biometry using 3D MRI reconstructions, in addition to measures of placental

MRI-based pseudo-CT sequences as a radiation-free alternative to CT for obstetric pelvimetry: a proof-of-concept study.

BACKGROUND: Pelvimetry is essential in obstetrics for delivery planning. While computed tomography (CT) is the standard, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a radiation-free alternative with zero echo time (ZTE) and black bone (BB) sequences providing high bone-to-soft tissue contrast within short scan times. This proof-of-concept study evaluates the reliability of these sequences and the agreement with CT for pelvimetry in a predominantly elderly population. METHODS: This retrospective study included 21 female patients who underwent 3-T whole-body MRI including ZTE and BB sequences and 1

Incremental Predictive Value of Conventional MRI Pelvimetry for Major Low Anterior Resection Syndrome After Rectal Cancer Surgery.

Background: Low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) is a frequent functional complication after sphincter-preserving rectal cancer surgery. Although tumor location and treatment-related factors are established determinants, the contribution of pelvic skeletal anatomy assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pelvimetry remains uncertain. This study evaluated whether three conventional MRI-derived skeletal pelvimetry measurements provide incremental predictive information for major LARS beyond a parsimonious preoperative clinical reference model. Methods: This single-center observational coho
