Pharmacy Resident Performed Longitudinal Medication Adherence Assessments in Candidates for Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant.

IntroductionOur institution implemented the Kidney Adherence Call Evaluations (KACE) program as a prospective medication nonadherence screening and education method in select deceased donor kidney transplant candidates, referred by transplant providers. Assessments were completed by first post-graduate year pharmacy residents with preceptor oversight. We aimed to 1) estimate resident time commitments to KACE, 2) evaluate changes in medication adherence tool usage from initial to last KACE encounters, and 3) assess transplant listing status at 6 months after KACE completion.DesignA retrospectiv

Research, leadership, and teaching skills-a realist review and synthesis of how and why these develop in pharmacy residency programs.

OBJECTIVES: Pharmacy residency programs accelerate the skill development of early career pharmacists. To establish a program theory of how and why pharmacy residents develop skills most effectively and consistently a realist review was performed. METHODS: A realist review of articles reporting on skill development by pharmacy residents through completion of a pharmacy residency program was conducted. Reports describing the development of clinical skills were scarce and the review was focused on the investigation of contexts and mechanisms which favor the development of non-clinical skills, su

Association Between Time From Eligibility to Examination and Exam Outcomes Among Residency-Trained Board of Pharmacy Specialties Candidates: A Cross-Sectional Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) board certification represents a recognized standard for advanced pharmacy practice and provides formal validation of specialized knowledge and skills through rigorously developed examinations. In other health professions, taking certification or licensure examinations soon after completing training has been associated with higher pass rates, while delays have been linked to poorer outcomes. This study investigates whether a similar pattern exists among BPS candidates, particularly those who complete residency training and become eligible for cer

Early COVID-19 First-Dose Vaccination Coverage Among Residents and Staff Members of Skilled Nursing Facilities Participating in the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program - United States, December 2020-January 2021.

Residents and staff members of long-term care facilities (LTCFs), because they live and work in congregate settings, are at increased risk for infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (1,2). In particular, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), LTCFs that provide skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services for persons with complex medical needs, have been documented settings of COVID-19 outbreaks (3). In addition, residents of LTCFs might be at increased risk for severe outcomes because of their advanced age or the presence of underlying chronic med

A Blueprint for Developing a Concentration in Ambulatory Care Within the PharmD Curriculum.

The US healthcare system is grappling with significant challenges, notably a shortage of primary care providers. Ambulatory care pharmacists are increasingly recognized as vital contributors to addressing these challenges. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Standards 2025 emphasizes preparing Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduates to be both "practice-ready" and "team-ready," supporting pharmacists' expanding role in addressing primary care shortages as members of interprofessional ambulatory care teams. The evolving healthcare landscape, local community needs, and directives from

Students' versus residency programs' perceptions of a high-quality PGY1 residency applicant.

INTRODUCTION: Securing a pharmacy residency position is highly competitive, and pharmacy students must work throughout pharmacy school to ensure their applications are as competitive as possible. Several surveys asking residency programs to describe the most crucial qualities of a high-quality residency candidate have been conducted. However, no study has investigated whether congruency exists between pharmacy students' and residency programs' perceptions of these sought-after qualities. METHODS: We surveyed pharmacy students to compare their perceptions of important qualities of residency ca

Disadvantaged groups have greater spatial access to pharmacies in New York state.

BACKGROUND: The accessibility of pharmacies has been associated with overall health and wellbeing. Past studies have suggested that low income and racial minority communities are underserved by pharmacies. However, the literature is inconsistent in finding links between area-level income or racial and ethnic composition and access to pharmacies. Here we aim to assess area-level spatial access to pharmacies across New York State (NYS), hypothesizing that Census Tracts with higher poverty rates and higher percentages of Black and Hispanic residents would have lower spatial access. METHODS: The

Impact of an In-House Resident Clinical Pharmacist On-Call Program on Resident Physician Training: A Cross-Sectional Survey.

BACKGROUND: Interdisciplinary collaboration is a core component of residency training. At the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health), a 24-h in-hospital Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) resident on-call program provides real-time clinical support to health care teams. Although primarily patient care-directed, these interactions offer a platform for interprofessional learning. The educational value of pharmacy resident involvement in training physician residents remains underexplored. METHODS: A prospective cross-sectional survey was conducted in March 2025, targetin

Mapping Buprenorphine Access at Philadelphia Pharmacies.

OBJECTIVES: Buprenorphine is not reliably stocked in many pharmacies, and pharmacy-level barriers may deter patients from opioid use disorder care. We surveyed all outpatient pharmacies in Philadelphia to describe variation in buprenorphine access and developed a map application to aid in identifying pharmacies that stock the medication. METHODS: Using a dataset from the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, we conducted a telephone survey of operating outpatient pharmacies (N = 422) about their buprenorphine stocking and dispensing practices. We used ArcGIS Pro 3.0.3 to join US Ce
