[Research progress in pharmacological activities and pharmacokinetics of geniposidic acid].

Geniposidic acid(GA), a natural iridoid, exists in the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, bark, fruits, and seeds of medicinal plants of Rubiaceae, Eucommiaceae, and Plantaginaceae. Modern pharmacological studies have revealed that GA has multiple pharmacological activities, including organ-protective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-osteoporosis, anti-neurodegenerative, and anti-cardiovascular effects. GA can enhance cell/organism defenses by upregulating key anti-inflammatory and antioxidant cytokines, while downregulating key node proteins in pro-inflammatory signaling pathways such as A

Phytodermatitis in eastern Turkey: a retrospective, observational study.

BACKGROUND: Plant life is extremely diverse, with a great deal of geographic and seasonal variation. Consequently, the range of reported adverse reactions is large, and there are important differences worldwide in the incidence and prevalence of these reactions. Systemic ingestion of some plants containing furocoumarins can cause erythema, edema, vesicle and bulla formation and later hyperpigmentation, after exposure to sunlight. They may at times exhibit clinical manifestations that mimic angioedema, and rarely progress to necrosis. This condition is named phyto-phototoxic reaction. OBJECTIV

Molecular and evolutionary mechanisms of self-incompatibility in angiosperms.

As an intraspecific outcrossing mechanism, self-incompatibility (SI) widely adopted by hermaphroditic plants is usually controlled by a polymorphic multi-allelic S locus. Typically, six molecular types of SI have been found, including type-I controlled by the pistil S S-RNase and pollen S SLFs commonly spread in Plantaginaceae, Solanaceae, Rosaceae and Rutaceae, type-II by SRK and SCR in Brassicaceae, type-III by PrsS and PrpS in Papaveraceae, type-IV by CYP-GLO2-KFB-CCM-PUM in Primulaceae, type-V by TsSPH1-TsYUC6-TsBAHD in Turneraceae and type-VI by HPS10-S and DUF247I-S in Poaceae, with type

Plantaginis Semen polysaccharides ameliorate renal damage through regulating NLRP3 inflammasome in gouty nephropathy rats.

Gouty nephropathy (GN) is considered to be a prevalent renal disease and is an inflammatory event mainly induced by MSU crystals. Plantaginis Semen is a traditional Chinese herb that has been used in the treatment of gout, gouty arthritis and GN, but the mechanism and ingredients have been unclear. In this study, we explored and evaluated the preliminary structural characterizations of Plantaginis Semen polysaccharides (PSPs) and the activity of protecting against renal damage in GN rats. Three polysaccharide fractions, PSP-D, PSP-H and PSP-S, were sequentially extracted by different processes

Dose-dependent in vivo effects of formulated moxidectin on seedling emergence of temperate grassland species.

Sheep function as effective endozoochorous seed vectors in grasslands. Recent laboratory-based studies showed that this important function can be impaired by macrocyclic lactone anthelmintics, which are used to control parasites and enter into the environment mainly via faeces; however, there is a lack of in vivo studies. We conducted a seed-feeding experiment with sheep that included four temperate grassland species from four different families (Achillea ptarmica, Asteraceae; Agrostis capillaris, Poaceae; Dianthus deltoides, Caryophyllaceae; Plantago lanceolata, Plantaginaceae). Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major inflammatory lung disease characterized by irreversible and progressive airflow obstruction. Although corticosteroids are often used to reduce inflammation, steroid therapies are insufficient in patients with refractory COPD. Both serum amyloid A (SAA) and IL-33 have been implicated in the pathology of steroid-resistant lung inflammation. Picroside II isolated from Pseudolysimachion rotundum var. subintegrum (Plantaginaceae) is a major bioactive component of YPL-001, which has completed phase-2a clinical trials in chronic obstructive pulm

Anthelmintic Activity of Traditional Medicinal Plants Used in Europe.

Synthetic anthelmintic drugs not only contribute to the development of pathogen resistance and environmental pollution but also to the development of pathogen resistance. Therefore, identifying the anthelmintic properties of widely used medicinal plants could be of great practical interest to veterinary and human medicine. In our experiment, we evaluated the in vitro survivability of the noninvasive and invasive (L1-2 and L3, respectively) larvae of Strongyloides papillosus and Haemonchus contortus subject to aqueous solutions of ethanolic tinctures of traditional medicinal plants (46 species)

Proposal for field sampling of plants and processing in the lab for environmental metabolic fingerprinting.

BACKGROUND: Samples for plant metabolic fingerprinting are prepared generally by metabolism quenching, grinding of plant material and extraction of metabolites in solvents. Further concentration and derivatisation steps follow in dependence of the sample nature and the available analytical platform. For plant material sampled in the field, several methods are not applicable, such as, e.g., collection in liquid nitrogen. Therefore, a protocol was established for sample pre-treatment, grinding, extraction and storage, which can be used for analysis of field-collected plant material, which is fur
