Applications of blood plasma derivatives for cutaneous wound healing: A mini-review of clinical studies.

Skin injuries are a global healthcare problem. Chronic ulcers do not heal in a timely fashion, so it is essential to help the body with skin repair. There are some treatments that have been applied to chronic ulcers. One of these treatments is growth factor (GF) therapy. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Platelet-poor plasma (PPP) are two types of plasma derivatives containing many GFs important for wound healing. Several works have reported their application in wound healing and tissue regeneration. The use of autologous PRP is now an adequate alternative in regenerative medicine. It was also de

Is skin microneedling a good alternative method of various skin defects removal.

Skin microneedling accelerates the process of skin regeneration through the creation of numerous microinjuries which emerge when skin is deeply punctured with very thin needles. The whole procedure evokes various reactions which can be divided into three major phases: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. It activates platelet growth factors which are responsible for the stimulation of fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin. Moreover, skin breakdown enhances penetration of active ingredients. Treatment can be performed with the use of different devices, all equipped with needles of

Platelet-rich plasma, a powerful tool in dermatology.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a platelet concentrate contained in a small volume of plasma, has become a promising option in the last decade to treat different diseases related to the skin due to its high concentration of growth factors. When it is of autologous origin, it decreases the probability of suffering adverse reactions and transfusion-transmitted infections, thus it is an optimal and safe therapy for the patient. PRP has been used in the treatment of several dermatological conditions such as acne, alopecia, and skin ulcers. Its use has also extended to other skin conditions such as mel

Regeneration of primary afferent neurons containing substance P-like immunoreactivity.

We compared changes in levels of substance P-like immunoreactivity (SPLI) in L4-6 dorsal root ganglia (DRG), L4-6 dorsal roots, sciatic nerve, tibial nerve and hind foot skin in rats following resection or crush injury of the sciatic nerve. The initial depletion of SPLI, which occurred in all areas sampled, was similar after either type of lesion. In DRG and dorsal roots, recovery to control values occurred in SPLI levels 35-45 days after sciatic crush, but not after resection. In sciatic nerve proximal to the injury, a partial recovery in SPLI content to about 60% of control occurred followin

A multifunctional DECM/PLMA hydrogel incorporated with engineered PRP-derived exosomes enabling PHD2 silencing for skin wound repair.

Skin defect repair remains a formidable clinical challenge, characterized by persistent infection risk, compromised angiogenesis, and dysregulated inflammatory responses. Existing hydrogel-based wound dressings fail to simultaneously address structural integrity, antimicrobial efficacy, and spatiotemporal coordination of tissue regeneration. Here, we report the development of a multifunctional bioactive hydrogel system fabricated by integrating decellularized tendon extracellular matrix (DECM) with Poly-L-lysine Methacryloyl (PLMA), and further functionalized with engineered platelet-rich plas

Cold Atmospheric Plasma-Activated In Situ Hydrogel Induces Hair Regeneration Via Immune Microenvironment Remodeling.

Hair loss is a prevalent condition with limited effective treatments. Here, a cold atmospheric plasma (CAP)-activated in situ hydrogel is reported, which modulates the hair follicle immune microenvironment and promotes hair regeneration. CAP irradiation induces the gelation of a tyramine-grafted hyaluronic acid solution containing interleukin-2 (HTsol/IL2), forming a hydrogel (CAPgel/IL2) that retains CAP-induced reactive oxygen species and IL2 within its matrix. In vivo, subcutaneous injection of HTsol/IL2 into the dorsal skin of mice, followed by CAP exposure at the injection site, induces i

Sensory improvement of leprosy peripheral neuropathy in patients treated with perineural injection of platelet-rich plasma.

BACKGROUND: Leprosy (Hansen's disease) is a chronic granulomatous infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae with peripheral neuropathy as cutaneous and neurological manifestations. Peripheral nerve regeneration may be stimulated by vascular endothelial growth factor and other growth factors (GFs) that have important roles in extracellular matrix regeneration. All of those GFs can be found in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) preparation. The effect of PRP injection in leprosy peripheral neuropathy has never been reported. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A double-blind, randomized, control clinical trial was c

Cold Atmospheric Plasma in Wound Healing: Molecular Mechanism of Action.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a promising tool used in medicine due to its broad spectrum of biological activity and the possibility of safe application on living tissues without the risk of thermal damage. CAP is a partially ionised gas containing electrons, ions and reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS); it also emits ultraviolet radiation and an electromagnetic field. The aim of this study is to discuss the mechanisms of action of cold atmospheric plasma and to assess its significance in supporting the skin healing process. Analysis of the available data indicates that CAP acts in

Comparative Evaluation of Argon and Helium Plasma for Controlled Epidermal Peeling and Dermal Remodeling in Human Skin Tissue.

BACKGROUND: Plasma-based devices are increasingly used for skin rejuvenation and epidermal peeling; however, standardized parameters for different plasma gases remain insufficient. Argon (Ar) and helium (He) plasma exhibit distinct physical and biological characteristics, necessitating systematic evaluation to define safe and reproducible treatment conditions. METHODS: An ex vivo human skin explant model was used to evaluate Ar and He plasma generated by the Plasma Magic device under standardized pulse conditions (1 Hz, 500 ms, 2 pulses). Multiple output levels were assessed to identify param

A Prospective Clinical Evaluation of Combined Targeted Verifiable Subcision and Helium Plasma Radiofrequency for the Treatment of Cellulite and Skin Laxity.

Cellulite affects 85% to 98% of postpubertal females and is characterized by fibrous septa contraction, dermal thinning, and fat lobule herniation, resulting in visible skin dimpling and textural irregularities. Although multiple treatment modalities exist, most target only select aspects of this multifactorial condition. This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of a novel approach combining targeted verifiable subcision (TVS) and helium plasma radiofrequency (RF) to disrupt fibrous septa, stimulate collagen remodeling, and improve skin elasticity. A prospective, single-center, investigato

Decreased Plasma Level of Cytokeratin 20 (KRT20) Is Indicative of the Emergence and Severity of Acute GvHD Irrespective to the Type of Organ Involvement.

Accurate risk prediction of acute graft versus host disease (aGvHD) is currently an unmet clinical need. This study sought to analyze whether three plasma proteins expressed in a largely skin- and gut-restricted manner would be affected by the development of acute cutaneous and gastrointestinal aGvHD. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and prognostic value of plasma cytokeratin-15 (KRT15) cytokeratin-20 (KRT20), and occludin (OCLN) were evaluated in a discovery and a validation cohort using ELISA in comparison with elafin (PI3) and regenerating family member 3 alpha (REG3A), two establis

Preliminary observations of a new approach to tissue repair: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells in platelet-rich plasma injected into skin graft area.

Our purpose was accelerating the physiologic wound healing, stimulating tissue regeneration and the reparative tissue processes in resistant skin ulcers as in a case of an erosive lichen planus of the soles and after a surgical treatment as for severe Darier disease. The challenge was to establish an effective therapy to enhance tissue healing by the injection of a mixture of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PB-MNCs) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into a skin autograft area. This new perioperative biotechnological approach enriches PRP with the effects of PB-MNCs. It offers a novel advanced

Cool Atmospheric Plasma (J-Plasma) and New Options for Facial Contouring and Skin Rejuvenation of the Heavy Face and Neck.

Treating patients with heavy or thick features comes with challenges not present in those patients lacking these physical characteristics. The authors report our experience with cool atmospheric plasma for facial contouring and skin rejuvenation of the heavy face and neck including rhinophyma. Cool atmospheric plasma is generated by running helium gas over radiofrequency energy. The resulting plasma is a fourth state of matter and has enhanced clinical effects for ablation and thinning of skin and soft tissues as well of contouring and tightening of deeper soft tissues and fascia. Cool helium

Immunoadsorption for the treatment of bullous pemphigoid.

We treated 2 intractable patients with pemphigoid by absorbent plasmapheresis using dextran sulfate conjugated cellulose columns with an automated regenerating unit. During a 2 week period, this plasmapheresis was performed 4 to 6 times for Cases 1 and 2, respectively. Clinical findings including skin eruptions were remarkably improved, and the titers of antibasement membrane zone antibodies were decreased after the treatment of 1.8 to 4.2 L of plasma. These results suggest that the absorbent column is effective for intractable pemphigoid.

Applications of the regenerative capacity of platelets in modern medicine.

Platelets produce platelet growth factors such as PDGF, IGF-1, EGF-, HGF, TGFβ, bFGF, and VEGF, which are crucial in regulating all stages of the wound healing process. The source of these substances is platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Over the past five decades, the interest and use of the regenerative properties of platelets have increased significantly in many different fields of medicine around the world. PRP and PRF plate preparations are used in: 1. Dentistry (they reduce bleeding, facilitate and accelerate soft tissue healing and bone regeneration - FGF 2, IGF-1, IGF-2, TGF-β1, and PDGF); 2.

Development of plasma functionalized polypropylene wound dressing for betaine hydrochloride controlled drug delivery on diabetic wounds.

Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most worrying issues among illnesses, and its chronic subsequences almost refer to inflammations and infections. The loading and local release of antioxidants to wounds may decrease inflammations. However, the low wettability of PolyPropylene (PP) restricts the drug from loading. So, to increase the adhesion of PP for loading an optimum amount of Betaine Hydrochloride (BET), plasma has been applied in two steps of functionalization and polymerization, which has been confirmed with FE-SEM, ATR-FTIR, and EDX. The new chemistry of the surface led to almost 80% of B
