BACKGROUND: The necessity of prostaglandin E1 (PGE) usage before arterial switch operation (ASO) in infants with d-transposition of the great arteries (dTGA) after balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) remains controversial.

BACKGROUND: The presence of lipocalin-like prostaglandin D synthase (L-PGDS), a dominantly brain derived protein in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with a low concentration in serum, in the subretinal fluid (SRF) of detached retinas, has not been reported. L-PGDS has been demonstrated in the ciliary body and the retinal pigment epithelium in rats.
METHODS: SRF was sampled during surgery (scleral buckling) of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments in 20 eyes. Biochemical and nephelometric analysis for L-PGDS concentration were performed. Albumin concentrations were determined in the same samples.

Peptic ulcers are currently treated with various drugs, all having serious side effects. A case of familial central diabetes insipidus and dilatation of the urinary tract is reported. BACKGROUND: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) occurs often in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). However, not all patients present EDS. We hypothesized that the prostaglandin D2 system (PGD2) may be involved in the pathogenesis of EDS associated with OSAS.
