The moderating roles of a "growth mindset" and psychological flexibility on performance anxiety in violin learners.

BACKGROUND: Music performance anxiety (MPA), a common situational anxiety subtype, impairs motor execution and stress response in high-stakes violin learning, a context with rigorous technical and evaluative demands. This cross-sectional non-interventional human subject research strictly followed standardized ethical review protocols. OBJECTIVES: This study explored the correlations of growth mindset (GM, cognitive) and psychological flexibility (PF, emotional regulatory) with MPA, examining PF's moderating effect and gender differences in their anxiety-mitigating pathways. METHODS: A cross-

Psychological trauma and post-traumatic growth in parents of children with sickle cell disease.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a hereditary blood condition characterized by abnormal hemoglobin, leading to chronic hemolysis and vaso-occlusive complications. Caregivers of children with SCD often experience significant distress, akin to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This study aimed to measure the degree of trauma and post-traumatic growth among parents (caregivers) of children with SCD in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A total of 294 primary caregivers were recruited for this study, through direct phone calls and online outreach using contact information obtained from their primary tr

The impact of receiving an HIV diagnosis and cognitive processing on psychological distress and posttraumatic growth.

This study examined human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as a traumatic stressor, intrusive and deliberate cognitive processing, psychological distress, and posttraumatic growth. One-hundred twelve participants completed interviews on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Criterion A, Rumination Scale-Revised, Impact of Event Scale, and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory; relationships were modeled using path analysis. Model 1 attempted to replicate prior empirical research, Model 2 attempted to empirically replicate part of the posttraumatic growth theoretical model, and Model 3 attempted to emp

Posttraumatic growth in clinical psychology - a critical review and introduction of a two component model.

Positive psychological or personal changes in the aftermath of trauma, defined as the result of the struggle with highly stressful events, have recently elicited heightened attention by trauma researchers. This article aims at summarizing the most important theoretical models and conceptualizations of posttraumatic growth (PTG) and addresses the issue of the adaptive significance of this phenomenon. It further renders a thorough empirical review of the relationship between PTG and psychological adjustment. European findings are specifically incorporated. As a conclusion, a two component cognit

Neural Basis of Psychological Growth following Adverse Experiences: A Resting-State Functional MRI Study.

Over the past decade, research on the aftereffects of stressful or traumatic events has emphasized the negative outcomes from these experiences. However, the positive outcomes deriving from adversity are increasingly being examined, and such positive changes are described as posttraumatic growth (PTG). To investigate the relationship between basal whole-brain functional connectivity and PTG, we employed resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and analyzed the neural networks using independent component analysis in a sample of 33 healthy controls. Correlations were calculated betwee

[Psychological impact of growth hormone deficiency in adolescence: an observational study in pediatric clinical practice].

BACKGROUND: Growth problems in children and adolescents are a frequent reason for referral to pediatric endocrinologists with the most common endocrine form of short stature being growth hormone deficiency (Ghd). Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important factor in adolescents with Ghd and should be considered in clinical practice by physicians and psychologists. AIM: Present observational study aimed to examine the effects of Ghd and its treatment in outpatient adolescents, during the follow-up. METHODS: An observational study was conducted among 24 adolescents aged 11-18,9 year

The importance of evaluating sleep complaints in children with ichthyoses: a commentary on physical and psychological growth impairment.

Ichthyosis, as a debilitating disease, can cause significant physical and psychological damage to children and their families, which also includes sleep impairment. We call attention to the importance of evaluating sleep complaints in these patients, given the scarcity of studies on this subject. As the disease commonly results in severe skin injury, it can affect social relationships and the life and sleep quality of the individuals, leading to significant psychologic damage that can persist throughout their lives.

Psychological growth and well-being in individuals born with cleft: An application of self-determination theory.

OBJECTIVE: Many studies of individuals born with cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) address the psychological impact of CLP in terms of stigma and/or 'resilience'. The present study challenges the usefulness of resilience in CLP research with the application of self-determination theory (SDT). It is proposed that SDT can serve to better understand how individuals born with CLP can achieve psychological growth and well-being. DESIGN: Interviews were conducted with 15 individuals born with CLP in the UK. RESULTS: A thematic analysis was conducted and four main themes emerged: (1) personal challenge

The athlete psychological well-being inventory: Factor equivalence with the sport injury-related growth inventory.

Until now, research on growth following sport injury has relied exclusively on retrospective reports and nomothetic measures drawn from other fields of research. Therefore, to more objectively explore growth following sport injury pre- and post-injury, rather than retrospectively, this study adapts and examines the psychometric properties of the Athlete Psychological Well-Being Inventory (APWBI), which can be used throughout the sport injury process (i.e., prior to and following sport injury). A sample of 164 athletes free from injury (71.3 % men; M age = 19.7 years, SD = 2.1) were compared to

Post-Traumatic Growth in Adult Cancer Survivors: A Scoping Review of Psychological Factors, Predictors, and Interventions.

Post-traumatic growth (PTG), defined as positive psychological changes following trauma, has garnered attention in recent years within the context of cancer. This scoping review aims to synthesise and map PTG-related studies published in the last 5 years among adult cancer populations. A comprehensive literature search identified 109 eligible studies published between 2018 and 2023, predominantly cross-sectional in design, focusing on various cancer types, with a significant proportion examining breast cancer. The findings reveal that PTG is consistently associated with cognitive, emotional, s
