Demonstration videos are an innovative method for teaching approach-specific techniques. This randomised-controlled study examines the impact of approach-specific demonstration videos on students' practical skills. Undergraduate psychology students (N = 123) received approach-specific instructional texts and were then randomised into one of four groups in preparation for a standardised simulation. In two intervention groups (IGs), students watched a video on either psychodynamic or systemic techniques, whereas the control groups (CGs) reviewed the respective instructional text again. In the re

BACKGROUND: Prominent ears are the most common congenital abnormality of the head and neck, occurring in 5% of the Caucasian population. Facial disfigurement can cause psychosocial distress, low self-esteem and varying levels of social isolation most notable in school-age children. Although prominent ear correction is the most frequently performed aesthetic operation in children and adolescents, to our knowledge, the relationship between prominent ears and psychological, social and educational issues has not been systematically assessed.
PURPOSE OF STUDY: To investigate the psychological, soc

The educated elite of many Pacific peoples are exposed both to traditional cultural influences on the one hand and to a Western mode of education and an urban life style on the other. Examples are given of the problems that arise among the Melanesians of Fiji, the Polynesians of Tonga, Western Samoa and the Cook Islands and the Aborigines of Australia from the existence of these two sets of values. Conflict areas include money, property ownership, health care, family boundaries and adoption. The content and form of the conflicts are shaped by the original culture but the basic cause in each ca

BACKGROUND: Teaching Turkish to A1-A2 learners relies heavily on word selection and multimodal presentation. While traditional curricula prioritize frequency-based lists, they often underestimate the visual-semantic dimension critical for novice learners. Computational tools such as Word2Vec and CLIP offer a data-driven alternative by quantifying word-image alignment, yet their pedagogical efficacy in authentic classrooms remains empirically underexamined. Furthermore, the comparative effectiveness of AI-generated versus authentic photographs in vocabulary instruction constitutes an unresolved

BACKGROUND: Orthorexia nervosa has been increasingly examined in performance-oriented populations; however, evidence in higher-education dance students remains limited, particularly across multiple dance disciplines and with integrated psychological assessment.
OBJECTIVE: To examine orthorexia nervosa distribution among higher-education dance students across 4 disciplines (classical dance, contemporary, flamenco, and Spanish dance) and to analyse its association with psychological distress and body dissatisfaction.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 318 students enrolled in

BackgroundOlder adults are at increased risk of both falls and fall-related injuries. Falls have multiple causes and many interventions exist to try and prevent them, including educational and psychological interventions. Educational interventions aim to increase older people's understanding of what they can do to prevent falls and psychological interventions can aim to improve confidence/motivation to engage in activities that may prevent falls. This review is an update of previous evidence to focus on educational and psychological interventions for falls prevention in community-dwelling olde

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) might adversely affect academic performance, possibly through influences on psychological functioning such as stress resilience.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the association of atopic dermatitis with stress resilience, cognitive function and educational attainment.
METHODS: We used data from a national cohort of men who underwent a military conscription examination at ages 17-20 years in Sweden between 1969 and 1976. All potential conscripts met a physician who assessed current or previous history of AD. Stress resilience was measured by a psychologist using

Previous studies have suggested an association between chronic middle ear disorders due to secretory otitis media and adverse effects on auditory, educational and psychological development in children. Experimental design of such studies has often been poor. In this study, attempts were made to control extraneous variables more rigorously, using matched pairs. A group of children (n = 10) without current hearing problems but with a history of recurrent early secretory otitis media, aged 7-11 yrs, were compared on auditory, educational and psychological measures with a matched group of children

Individual educational effort usually promotes educational success and attainment, and generally has long-lasting positive consequences. However, there is important heterogeneity in this relationship due in part to constraints on the efficacy of individual effort presented by structural disadvantage, racism, and ethnocentrism. Using longitudinal data from the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (n = 1670, age 0-17, male and female), we investigate the relationship between educational effort and mental (depressive symptoms) and physical (accelerated epigenetic aging) health. The authors propose an educational innovation in graduate medical education, the creation of an Education Ombudsperson. Although this role has been implemented for faculty and students within the medical field, it has not been described in residency programs. The Ombudsperson for house staff is distinct from institutional or programmatic leadership. His or her primary role within a department is to foster psychological safety, wellness, advocacy, and professionalism in residency or fellowship programs. This manuscript describes the process for selection, visitor consultation, escalation pathwa

INTRODUCTION: Training in addiction medicine and addiction psychology is essential to ensure the quality of treatment for patients with substance use disorders. Some earlier research has shown varying training between countries, but no comprehensive study of addiction training across Europe has been performed. The present study by the European Federation for Addiction Societies (EUFAS) aimed to fill this gap.
METHODS: A Delphi process was used to develop a questionnaire on specialist training in addiction treatment in 24 European countries. The final questionnaire consisted of 14 questions on

RESEARCH FINDINGS: All teachers have demanding jobs and work with limited resources. However, working with young children with disabilities may place additional demands on early childhood special education (ECSE) teachers which may impact their well-being. Using the Job Demands and Resources model, the present study aimed to predict ECSE teachers' job burnout and psychological stress by using their job demands, job resources, and professional internal resources. An online survey was collected from 121 ECSE teachers from a large urban school district in a Western state of the United States. The

A sample of 21 parents were interviewed about the psychological development of their Cystic Fibrosis children and their way of education. Additionally 18 children - 6 to 15 years old - were examined by means of psychological tests. The results of the interviews demonstrate favourable behaviour in education, the parents being tolerant and consequent. The children were often described as reasonable and mature. There were seldom complaints about problems in education and behaviour. Some families are exercising an overprotecting way of education. The positive general impression with regard to the
