OBJECTIVES: To determine the clinical performance of light-cured calcium silicate-based cement for direct or indirect pulp capping. The research question was as follows: in teeth with deep caries lesions, does the use of resin-modified calcium silicate-containing composites improve the radiological success and prevent irreversible pulpitis and pulpal necrosis compared with other pulp-capping agents?
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The following databases were screened until September 2021: PubMed, Web of Science, Scielo, Scopus, Embase, and The Cochrane Library. Randomized clinical trials reporting th

This study evaluated pulpal healing following direct pulp capping with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or melatonin (MEL), with or without adjunctive low-level laser therapy (LLLT), in Wistar rat molars. Fifty-two maxillary first molars from 26 male Wistar rats were included. Forty-eight molars with standardized pulp exposures were randomly allocated to four groups (n = 12): Group I, PTFE; Group II, MEL; Group III, PTFE + LLLT; and Group IV, MEL + LLLT; four unexposed molars served as negative controls. LLLT (650 nm, 100 mW; fluence 11.9 J/cm2) was applied after placement of the capping materia

In situations where pulp degeneration and carious lesions may coexist, pulp therapy is a regularly employed method. Mineral trioxide aggregate, a material that is now utilized for indirect pulp treatment (IPT), is nontoxic and nonmutagenic. There is proof that the restoration margin can be sealed to manage the caries lesion. In terms of the clinical and radiological outcome, it has been demonstrated that IPT is more effective and secure than direct pulp capping and pulpotomy. The pulp capping treatment's goal is to protect the pulp from microorganisms as well as from thermal, electrical, chemi

Pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption is a rare dental anomaly marked by a radiolucent area within an unerupted tooth. This report discusses the clinical management of pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption in two mandibular premolars through vital pulp therapy using Biodentine as a sealant. Emphasising the significance of timely intervention for preserving pulp vitality and the tooth's integrity, the present case report underscores the necessity of vigilant clinical and radiographic monitoring for early detection and appropriate treatment. By presenting effective strategies for managing pre-erup

BACKGROUND: Corticosteroids are commonly used as a treatment for a variety of pathological conditions, however, systemic corticosteroid administration has adverse effects including impaired immune response and wound healing. Such complications may affect pulp healing after direct pulp capping. The current study evaluated the influence of corticosteroids on the healing ability of exposed dogs' dental pulps after direct pulp capping (DPC) with bioactive materials.
METHODS: Ten healthy male dogs were assigned randomly into two groups, 5 dogs each: group I represent the control group which did no

AIM: To evaluate the dental pulp response to a novel mineral trioxide aggregate containing phosphorylated pullulan (MTAPPL) in rats after direct pulp capping.
METHODS: Ninety-six cavities were prepared in the maxillary first molars of 56 male Wistar rats. The dental pulps were intentionally exposed and randomly divided into four groups according to the application of pulp capping materials: MTAPPL; phosphorylated pullulan (PPL); a conventional MTA (Nex-Cem MTA, NCMTA; positive control); and Super-Bond (SB; negative control). All cavities were restored with SB and observed for pulpal responses

Outcome expectations of direct pulp capping in carious teeth are obscured by a clinically unknown infiltration and breakdown of the dental pulp tissue. Histologic studies showed that this soft tissue breakdown is related to the innate immune system. We hypothesized 1) that a neutrophil biomarker could predict the outcome of direct pulp capping and 2) that using sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) as a lavage solution to remove necrotized infected pulp tissue could improve it. In this randomized trial in mature posterior teeth causing no or mild discomfort with carious pulpal exposures, pulpal fluid wa

BACKGROUND: Direct pulp capping (DPC) is the least minimal approach for maintaining pulp vitality after pulp exposure. Besides calcium hydroxide (CaOH), hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSC) have increasingly been used for DPC.
OBJECTIVES: During the S3 level guideline development for material choice in DPC, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of existing literature comparing CaOH and HCSC for DPC on permanent teeth. We aimed (1) to assess clinical and radiographic outcomes and (2) patient-reported outcomes of DPC.
METHOD: Three databases from 1 January 1990 to 19 February

BACKGROUND: Vital pulp therapy (VPT) aims to preserve pulp vitality through minimally invasive approaches, including indirect pulp capping (IPC), direct pulp capping (DPC), and pulpotomy. TheraCal LC, a light-cured resin-modified calcium silicate material, is widely used as a pulp-capping agent due to its favorable handling characteristics and bioactive properties. However, its clinical and radiographic efficacy remains insufficiently documented.
OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of TheraCal LC in IPC and DPC procedures and compared its performanc
