The effects produced by the two pyrimidine derivatives pyridinol carbamate (parmidine) and xymedon on cholesterol metabolism and experimental atherosclerosis were comparatively studied in rabbits. The rabbits were fed either a chow containing cholesterol (200 mg/kg body weight) or the same diet also containing xymedon (30 mg/kg body weight) or pyridinol carbamate (30 mg/kg body weight). Total plasma cholesterol showed 5.5- and 4.7-fold increases in the rabbits receiving only cholesterol or cholesterol + pyridinol carbamate, respectively, as compared with that in the animals on a standard labor

Amben (fibrinolysis inhibitor) and parmidin (bradykinin inhibitor) were used as pathogenetic treatment of 38 and 36 patients with hemorrhagic erysipelas respectively. Early amben treatment proved clinically rather effective and was accompanied by normalization of fibrinolysis and kallikrein-kinin system. Parmidin treatment resulted only in pain control, other subjective signs, normalization of the kallikrein-kinin system while fibrinolysis activity was maintained at former levels.

Using the method of double-blind trial the effectiveness of treatment with Anginin (pyrridinolcarbamate) and Stugeron (cinnarizine) was evaluated. The somatic and mental condition and the results of motor rehabilitation of the patients were estimated. In all the evaluated elements the results of Stugeron treatment were better. The results were assessed in two groups of 20 cases each of patients with cerebral atherosclerosis observed during two months.

On isolated ileum of the guinea pig the antihistamine drugs dimedrol, diprazin (pipolphen), tavegil and suprastin diminished spasmogenic effects of bradykinin and an enhancement of microvascular permeability induced by this polypeptid. The antihistamine drugs display a nonspecific antibradykinin activity. No relationship between the chemical structure and pronounced antibradykinin action of the antihistamines studied was revealed.

It was shown, that TPH after i.v. administration causes significant decrease of CBF, but IBMX and P-23 had no effects on CBF. After i.c. administration of TPH and P-23 CBF decreased, whereas IBMX i.c. injection had no effect on CBF in SHR rats. These results indicate that direct administration of TPH or P-23 into the cerebral vascular beds causes intensification of TPH activity and reveals the action of P-23. These data suggest, that intracarotid administration of xanthine derivatives can change their cerebrovascular activity.

The serum lipids were dynamically followed up in 39 patients with ischemic heart disease treated with Prodectin.
