BACKGROUND: Qigong is a mind-body intervention focusing on interoceptive awareness that appears to be a promising approach in anorexia nervosa (AN). In 2008, as part of our multidimensional treatment program for adolescent inpatients with AN, we began a weekly qigong workshop that turned out to be popular among our adolescent patients. Moreover psychiatrists perceived clinical benefits that deserved further exploration.
METHODS AND FINDINGS: A qualitative study therefore sought to obtain a deeper understanding of how young patients with severe AN experience qigong and to determine the incenti

BACKGROUND: Post-COVID syndrome (PCS) is characterized by persistent fatigue and limited treatment options. Telemedical self-care approaches such as online Qigong and self-applied acupressure are increasingly used, yet little is known about how participants experience and integrate these interventions. This qualitative substudy explored participants' perspectives within the ACUQiG randomized trial.
METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 participants (8 female, 4 male; age 35-57) after completing an eight-week program of online Qigong and self-applied acupressure. Interview

BACKGROUND: Qigong, which has many forms, was recently described as "meditative movement," and represents a self-care technique that can contribute to improved health. There are challenges involved in research into qigong, including defining the amount of instruction required for threshold effects, and whether there is a relationship between amount of practice and outcomes. Recent clinical trials examining Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong (CFQ) for fibromyalgia have used a standardized regimen of practice over an 8-week period.
CASE REPORT: Between a pilot trial and a subsequent larger controlled trial,

OBJECTIVES: Liuzijue Qigong (LQG), a kind of traditional Chinese health exercise (TCHE), is not only widely used to strengthen physical fitness and maintain psychological well-being in the elderly but has also been utilized to help improve respiratory function. As respiratory support is an important driving force for speech production, it is logical to postulate that the LQG training method with 6 monosyllabic speech sounds, xū, hē, hū, sī, chuī, and xī, can help individuals (1) experience a relaxing and natural state of speech production, (2) eliminate voice symptoms, and (3) improve their ov

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain and sleep disorders are commonly seen symptoms in community-dwelling older adults at traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinics. TCM modalities such as herbal medication and acupuncture have side effects and usage limitations. Therefore, nonpharmacological and noninvasive interventions may be applied to relieve the symptoms of these conditions.
PURPOSE: This study was designed to test the effect of Qigong Wuqinxi exercise on chronic pain, sleep quality, TCM constitutions, and tongue features in community-dwelling older adults.
METHODS: This was a cluster randomized c

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) adversely affects both young and old and is a growing public health issue. A number of recent trends in managing TBI, such as recommending sub-threshold aerobic activity, tailoring multi-modal treatment strategies, and studying the possible role of low-grade inflammation in those with persistent symptoms, all suggest that the physical and cognitive exercise of tai chi/qigong could have benefit.
METHOD: Designed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, the following databases will be

PURPOSE: The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility of an 8-week Qigong intervention to improve objectively and subjectively assessed cognitive function in breast cancer survivors who were 2 months to 8 years post completion of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
METHODS: A randomized, single-blind, three-arm intervention pilot was conducted to compare Qigong to gentle exercise and survivorship support. Feasibility was measured by recruitment, group session attendance, and adherence to home practice for the two exercise groups. Changes in self-report and objectively measu

OBJECTIVE: Breast cancer survivors (BCSs) experience symptoms affecting overall quality of life (QOL), often for a prolonged period post-treatment. Meditative Movement (MM), including Qigong and Tai Chi Easy (QG/TCE), has demonstrated benefit for improving QOL issues such as fatigue and sleep, but there is limited evidence of its impact on cognitive function, overall physical activity, and body weight for BCSs.
DESIGN: This double-blind, randomized controlled pilot study with 87 female BCSs explored effects of QG/TCE on mental and physical QOL (Medical Outcomes Survey, Short Form), cognitive

BACKGROUND: Qigong is a traditional Chinese psychosomatic exercise that has been reported to induce remarkable physical and psychological benefits. However, qigong has rarely been studied in fibromyalgia, and the effects of Taoist qigong on the psychological adjustment and pain reduction of individuals with this syndrome are unknown. Since the treatment of fibromyalgia remains a serious challenge, shedding light on the possible therapeutic action of Taoist qigong in these individuals is essential. Therefore, the present study was designed to explore whether this method of qigong could improve

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Qigong is an ancient Chinese psychosomatic system with a fascinating holistic approach to health, which exerts remarkable physical and mental benefits. Nevertheless, this method has been scarcely investigated in fibromyalgia, and although a significant amount of research has focused on the immune effects of qigong, its action on immune parameters of individuals with fibromyalgia has never been studied to date. Thus, the aim of the present study was, therefore, to explore the effects of a qigong programme on white blood cells and other immune parameters in individuals with
