Cutaneous field cancerization in dermatology describes the anatomic region of photodamaged skin with actinic keratoses (AKs) or cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) that is surrounded by cellular atypia, forming a dysplastic field. The concept of field cancerization is especially relevant in dermatology, as actinic keratoses and the surrounding dysplastic region can progress to carcinomas, necessitating the treatment of the field. Recent research has focused on field-directed therapy using topical agents. This study aims to systematically review randomized controlled trials on topical trea

Mature striae distensae, called striae albae, are common but treatment-resistant dermal scars. Fractional radiofrequency (FRF) can potentially act as transdermal permeation enhancer for topical tretinoin (TT). This study investigated FRF and TT as a combination treatment for striae albae. Twenty patients were included, each with four anatomically comparable areas that were randomized to (i) TT (ii) FRF (iii) combination FRF + TT and (iv) untreated control. Three treatment sessions were performed one month apart, and TT was also applied in-between. The change in striae from baseline to 20-week

BACKGROUND: Otosclerosis is characterized by abnormal bone growth in the otie capsule. Nowadays, stapedotomy is commonly used for otosclerosis treatment. Currently, postoperative dizziness has been associated with stapedotomy. In 1981, intratympanic dexamethasone was utilized to manage inner ear disorders like tinnitus and acute sensorineural hearing loss. However, there is much uncertainty regarding the effect and safety of topical steroid therapy in the middle ear during stapedotomy. In the present study, we assessed the effect of topical steroid therapy during stapedotomy on postoperative d

OBJECTIVES: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is an infection of the vagina's mucous membranes, caused by Candida albicans in more than 90% of acute VVC. Several topical and oral azole agents are available in a variety of formulations, and all seem to have similar effectiveness. Azoles are fungistatic, meaning that the fungi are inhibited from growth or replication but are not eradicated. Recurrent infection and developing azole resistance demonstrate a significant need for alternative treatments.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred twenty-six women were randomized to 1 of the following 3 treatme

BACKGROUND: Injection of local anaesthetic agents around the prostatic nerve bundles during transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) biopsy of the prostate has shown to reduce the pain associated with the procedure. It has been shown that some of the discomfort associated with the procedure is secondary to spasm of the anal sphincter. Topical diltiazem can relax the anal sphincter. Our aim was to evaluate the use of topical diltiazem cream as an adjunct to periprostatic nerve block in reducing pain associated with TRUS-guided prostatic biopsy.
