Optimal and Minimal Doses of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Improve Psychological Distress: A Meta-Analysis, Meta-Regression, and Subgroup Analysis of Controlled Trials.

Optimal doses of psychotherapy prevent overtreatment and help mental health service managers better allocate resources and tailor treatment to fit individual needs. This meta-analysis originally aimed to evaluate the optimal and minimal doses of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to improve overall psychological distress (anxiety, depression, and stress). PubMed, Scopus, and PsycNET databases were systematically searched to discover eligible studies until October 2024. More manual searches were conducted using Google Scholar. Due to heterogeneity, standard mean differences (Cohen's d) wer

Predictors of Psychological Strain and Allostatic Load in Teachers: Examining the Long-Term Effects of Biopsychosocial Risk and Protective Factors Using a LASSO Regression Approach.

Teacher stress significantly challenges teachers' health, teaching quality, and students' motivation and achievement. Thus, it is crucial to identify factors that effectively prevent it. Using a LASSO regression approach, we examined which factors predict teachers' psychological strain and allostatic load over two years. The study included 42 teachers (28 female, Mage = 39.66, SD = 11.99) and three measurement time points: At baseline, we assessed teachers' (a) self-reports (i.e., on personality, coping styles, and psychological strain), (b) behavioral data (i.e., videotaped lessons), and (c)

Can fluoxetine's diminished efficacy in pediatric depression be explained by study sites, baseline severity, age, and psychological interventions? A secondary exploratory meta-regression.

BACKGROUND: Fluoxetine's efficacy estimates in pediatric depression trials have declined to the range of placebo equivalence. We investigated whether changes in trial characteristics (number of study sites (NOSS), age, baseline severity, or added psychological interventions) could explain this trend. METHODS: We conducted a secondary exploratory analysis based on our recent meta-analyses of pediatric fluoxetine depression trials. The outcome was symptom change on the Children's Depression Rating Scale Revised (CDRS-R). We used meta-regression to explore the association between NOSS, age, depr

Exploring the Predictors of Distress Disclosure: Self-Compassion and Emotional Regulation in Indian College Students.

Self-disclosure plays a crucial role in psychological well-being; however, predictors of distress disclosure are less explored, especially in non-Western contexts such as India. This study examined the relationship among self-compassion, emotional regulation (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression), and distress disclosure among Indian college students, as well as differences between psychology and non-psychology majors. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was used with 329 Indian college students aged 18 to 25, recruited through convenience sampling. The Self-Compassion Scale-Sho

What Role Does Positive Psychology Play in Understanding Pain Intensity and Disability Among Patients with Hand and Upper Extremity Conditions?

BACKGROUND: A large body of research shows that psychologic distress and ineffective coping strategies substantially contribute to more severe pain and increased physical limitations among patients with orthopaedic disorders. However, little is known about the relationship between positive psychology (constructs that enable individuals to thrive and adapt to challenges) and pain and physical limitations in this population. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: (1) Which positive-psychology factors (satisfaction with life, gratitude, coping through humor, resilience, mindfulness, and optimism) are independently

Demographic, social, psychological, mental health, and academic correlates of problematic smartphone use among French psychology students.

BACKGROUND: Problematic smartphone use (PSU) among university students has raised increasing concern due to its links with psychological distress, cognitive difficulties, and academic impairment. Despite extensive international research, data on PSU among French university students-particularly psychology students-remain limited. Psychology students constitute a distinctive population because they receive formal training on addiction mechanisms, yet may still engage in maladaptive smartphone use, illustrating a potential intention-behavior gap. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to (1) estimate the
