Rehmannia, a natural medicinal and functional plant, has been used as a Chinese materia medica and dietary supplement for a long time, with its polysaccharides being the main bioactive ingredients. Natural polysaccharide hydrogels loaded with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) represent an effective strategy for bone defect repair. In this study, a neutral homogeneous polysaccharide (RP-1) was isolated from Rehmannia glutinosa, and it was mainly formed by →2)-β-D-Fruf-(1→, →6)-α-D-Glcp-(1→, →6)-α-D-Galp-(1 → and α-D-Galp-(1 → as backbone. In vitro cell experiments indicated that RP-1 c

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn.) DC. (RG) has been widely used as traditional Chinese herbal medicine for treatment of diabetes and its complications. The polysaccharide fraction of RG has been proposed to possess hypoglycemic effect by intraperitoneal administration, however, the mechanisms responsible for the hypoglycemic effect of RG polysaccharide (RGP) remain poorly understood. Here we studied the anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic effect of oral administration of a purified RGP and its underlying mechanisms in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mic

Liposomes, one kind of vaccine adjuvants, have been demonstrated as effective adjuvants and vaccine delivery system. Immunization against PCV-2 has been studied intensely and found to be the most effective strategy for protecting pigs against PCV-2 infection. Inactivated vaccines represent a complex mixture of viral antigens closely resembling the native virion. In the present study, PCV-2 attenuated antigen was encapsulated within Rehmannia glutinosa polysaccharide liposome, instead of oil adjuvant which is the mainstream adjuvant. Our results showed that RGPL could elicit a strong IgG respon

Rehmanniae Radix (RR) has a long history in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It was previously shown to alleviate T2DM through the regulation of molecular targets in the kidney. However, the role of RR on T2DM-driven hepatic metabolism disorder remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effects of RR against T2DM and reveal its mechanism of action in the liver. In this study, a high-fat diet and streptozotocin-induced T2DM rat model were used to investigate the antidiabetic effect of Rehmanniae Radix extract (RRE). Proteomics and metabolomics of rat serum and liver

BACKGROUND: Rehmanniae Radix (RR) has received attention for its antithrombotic effect. However, few studies have independently explored the bioactive components responsible for its antithrombotic bioactivity and the potential mechanism. We aimed to reveal the antithrombotic mechanisms of RR by using metabolomics integrated with network pharmacology.
METHODS: A thrombosis model was established by intraperitoneal injection of type I carrageenan in rats, and antithrombotic function was evaluated at different doses of RR. Metabolomics was used to identify the differential metabolites in the seru

Rehmannia chingii is an important medicinal plant with immense value in scientific research. However, its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) has not yet been characterized. Herein, based on whole-genome Illumina short reads and PacBio HiFi reads, we obtained the complete mitogenome of R. chingii through a de novo assembly strategy. We carried out comparative genomic analyses and found that, in comparison with the plastid genome (plastome) showing a high degree of structural conservation, the R. chingii mitogenome structure is relatively complex, showing an intricate ring structure with 16 conne

Liuwei Dihuang (LWDH) is a multi-component and multi-target Chinese herbal compound widely used for treating chronic conditions such as diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, hypertension, osteoporosis, and chronic kidney disease. However, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparations like decoction and pill face limitations, including low active component concentration, limited bioavailability, short half-life, and the need for high dosage, which may increase the burden on liver and kidney functions and reduce clinical efficacy. In this study, LWDH was further purified using D101 macroporous adsor

In our previous study, we showed that Rehmannia glutinosa polysaccharide (RGP) treatment induced activation of dendritic cells (DCs) in human and mouse subjects. In this study, we evaluated the effect of RGP as a mucosal adjuvant for inducting activation of DCs in the mediastinal lymph node (mLN) in the mouse. The C57BL/6 mice were intranasally (i.n.) treated with RGP and activation of DC in the mLN was analyzed. The treatment with RGP induced a substantial increase in the number of DCs in the mLN due to the up-regulation of C-C motif chemokine receptor 7 (CCR7) in the DCs. Moreover, the expre

BACKGROUND: Rehmannia glutinosa, a herb of significant medicinal and food value, is highly susceptible to pathogen infections. Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. R. glutinosa (FORg), a pathogenic strain isolated from R. glutinosa, induces root rot disease, leading to severe yield losses. Currently, resistant cultivars and effective control strategies for R. glutinosa root rot remain very limited. This study aims to investigate the feasibility and potential of SIGS technology in preventing and controlling R. glutinosa root rot caused by FORg.
RESULTS: This study demonstrates that FORg hyphae can capably
