Cystic dysplasia of the rete testis. Case report.

Cystic dysplasia of the rete testis (CDRT) is a very rare cause of a paediatric scrotal mass often associated with renal and other genitourinary tract anomalies. These complex malformations are probably due to a developmental defect of the mesometanephric system during embryogenesis. A case of asymptomatic scrotal swelling in a 4-year-old boy is presented. Ultrasonography, showed a cystic lesion of the left testis associated with absence of the left kidney. Orchiectomy was performed because of extensive gonad involvement. Pathologic examination revealed multiple, anastomosing, irregular cystic

[Tubular ectasia of the rete testis. The echographic aspects].

Tubular ectasia of the seminiferous tubules of the rete testis is an uncommon benign condition which was only recently described. Its US pattern is typical and allows the disease to be distinguished from cystic tumors of the testicle. The condition was evaluated with US in 10 patients; all men were over 50 years old. US was performed with a 7.5-MHz linear probe. The lesion was unilateral in 7 and bilateral in 3 patients. It was always localized in the mediastinum testis and was associated with spermatocele in 5 cases and with testicular cysts in 4. On US scans, the condition presented with sev

Spermatozoa-containing simple cysts of the rete testis.

Simple cysts of the testis are rare benign lesions of uncertain etiology. We report 2 spermatozoa-containing cysts of the rete testis found incidentally in the left testicle of a 56-year-old man evaluated by ultrasound for hydrocele. The presence of spermatozoa in the cyst fluid has not been observed previously and confirms the connection of the cysts with the seminiferous tubular system.

Primary carcinoma of the rete testis in a Nellore bull.

Carcinoma of the rete testis is an extremely rare neoplasm, which has not been previously reported in cattle. Therefore, the aim of this report is to describe a case of carcinoma of the rete testis in a bull, including clinical, ultrasonographic, histopathological, and immunohistochemical findings. An eight-year-old Nellore bull was referred for evaluation following a history of hemospermia. In the ultrasonographic evaluation, dilation of the left mediastinum testis was observed, as well as the presence of anechoic cystic structures. Unilateral orchiectomy was performed on the affected testis,

Sunitinib for adenocarcinoma of the rete testis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis (AORT) is an extremely rare and aggressive tumor with a poor prognosis. Its etiology and pathological characteristics have not been extensively studied, making accurate diagnosis and appropriate management challenging. AORT, an invasive testicular tumor with a mortality rate of 46%, treatment typically involves radical orchiectomy, retroperitoneal pelvic lymph node dissection (RPLND), adjuvant chemotherapy, and/or ongoing monitoring, but the response to conventional radiation and chemotherapy is limited. At present, no effective targeted therapy fo

Carcinoma of the rete testis: A rare testicular tumor.

Carcinoma of the rete testis is a rare malignant tumor which frequently occurs in middle-aged to older patients and has an aggressive biological behavior. We present the case of a 57-year-old man who presented with an ill-defined mass in the right testicle. The patient underwent a radical orchidectomy. Microscopic evaluation showed a neoplasm displaying a complex papillary-cystic architecture, infiltrating the testicular parenchyma. An in situ proliferation of neoplastic cells, with nuclear stratification and scanty cytoplasm was seen at the periphery, within the channels of the rete testis. T

Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis with uncommon presentation as haematocele.

Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis was encountered in a 62-year-old man. The tumour was localised in the region of the testicular hilum as a greyish-white nodule that showed no involvement of the adjacent testicular parenchyma or the epididymis. On microscopical examination, there was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma separated by fibrovascular stroma, entirely confined to the testicular hilum. This primary carcinoma of the rete testis presented as a haematocele.

Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis. Report of two cases.

Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis is extremely rare and has been the subject of only sporadic case reports. Its natural history appears highly malignant even in localized forms; because of a poor response to adjuvant therapy radical orchiectomy with retroperitoneal lymph node dissection is recommended in stage A. We report our experience with two examples which arose in men of 26 and 57 years of age between 1988 and 1999. Both of them presented with a scrotal mass, and one of them had hydrocele. Neither had a history of maldescendent, infections or trauma. Microscopically the tumors were adeno

Bilateral cystic rete testis in an alpaca (Lama pacos).

A 9-year-old intact male alpaca (Lama pacos) was examined because of marked enlargement of the left scrotum. Ultrasound examination revealed a thin-walled anechoic structure in the area of the left testis. Aspirated fluid contained spermatozoa, many of which had abnormal morphology. Castration was performed and the left testis was markedly enlarged with a clear fluid-filled cyst. The cyst was lined by a single layer of squamous to cuboidal epithelial cells consistent with those originating from rete testis. The right testis was of a comparable size and shape to that of normal alpaca testis, bu

Pronounced cystic transformation of the Rete testis. MRI appearance.

Cystic transformation of the rete testis is a little-known partial or complete obstruction of the spermatozoa-containing secretion of the head of the epididymis. Depending on its severity, either ectasia or a cystic transformation occurs, which spreads to the network of convoluted seminiferous tubules in the mediastinum testis. Findings in contrast-enhanced MRI examinations are characteristic and may help to differentiate this benign entity from malignant neoplasia. The authors present two pronounced cases in different stages, documenting the broad spectrum of possible involvement.

Cystic rete testis in a central bearded dragon (Pogonavitticeps).

The rete testis forms from the mesonephric tubules in a series of interconnected channels in which spermatozoa travel in a high volume of fluid between the seminiferous tubules and efferent ductules. Cystic rete testis can be identified by uni- or multilocular cysts with a wall lined by low cuboidal epithelial cells and a dense fibrous stroma. An 11-year-old male central bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) was evaluated for a coelomic mass. The animal had no other clinical signs apart from coelomic mass effect. Exploratory surgery revealed a mass in the region of the right testis that was excise

Rete testis dysgenesis. A characteristic lesion of undescended testes.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the status of the intratesticular spermatic duct system (rete testis, RT) in patients with cryptorchidism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We examined 40 surgical orchiectomy specimens from postpubertal patients with undescended testis from pathology files at La Paz Hospital, Madrid, Spain. Special attention was given to the intratesticular spermatic duct system, mainly the RT. RESULTS: In all cases, the RT was underdeveloped and was lined by columnar or large cuboidal cells (dysgenetic RT). According to the configuration of the mediastinal RT, the lesions were classified as di

Polyorchidism and rete testis adenoma: ultrasound and MR findings.

Polyorchidism is an uncommon congenital anomaly. It is associated with an increased frequency of testicular malignancy, cryptorchidism, inguinal hernia, and torsion. Sonography may be used to confirm the clinically suspected diagnosis. We present a case of polyorchidism in which a rete testis adenoma was present in one of the testicles. Sonographic and magnetic resonance findings are illustrated.

Anatomy, Endocrine Regulation, and Embryonic Development of the Rete Testis.

Reproduction in males requires the transfer of spermatozoa from testis tubules via the rete system to the efferent ductules, epididymis, and vas deferens. The rete therefore forms an essential bridging system between the testis and excurrent ducts. Yet the embryonic origin and molecular regulation of rete testis development is poorly understood. This review examines the anatomy, endocrine control, and development of the mammalian rete testis, focusing on recent findings on its molecular regulation, identifying gaps in our knowledge, and identifying areas for future research. The rete testis de

Bilateral cystic dysplasia of the rete testis with renal adysplasia.

Cystic dyplasia of the rete testis (CDRT) is an uncommon, generally unilateral lesion characterized by anastomosing cystic spaces lined by a flattened simple cuboidal epithelium in the rete testis. In the literature this lesion often is associated with an ipsilateral urogenital lesion such as renal agenesia or multicystic dysplasia of the kidney, in order of frequency. The pathogenesis is explained by some authors by their common embryologic origin. We are reporting the finding of bilateral CDRT associated with ultrasound-diagnosed renal adysplasia in a 20-week gestational age fetus with oligo
