Plasma volume expansion with solutions of hemoglobin, albumin, and Ringer lactate in sheep.

We have measured plasma volume expansion (Evans blue and hematocrit changes) and hemodynamic responses in conscious hemorrhaged and normovolemic splenectomized sheep after a 30-min infusion of either 20 ml/kg of diaspirin cross-linked hemoglobin (DCLHb), 20 ml/kg of human albumin (Alb), or 60 ml/kg of a solution of Ringer lactate (RL). All regimens expanded blood volume and increased blood pressure and cardiac output after hemorrhage. However, only 15 +/- 3% of the infused volume of RL was evident as intravascular expansion 10-min postinfusion, compared with 67 +/- 16% and 139 +/- 139% for Alb

The use of Ringer's lactate in the treatment of children with cholera and acute noncholera diarrhoea.

Two regimens of fluid and electrolyte therapy were studied in children with severe cholera and noncholera diarrhoea. In one, lactated Ringer's solution was the sole intravenous fluid, additional water, glucose, and potassium being given by mouth. In the other, three different intravenous solutions were employed to meet all fluid and electrolyte requirements. The response to therapy was satisfactory with each regimen. Because of prolonged stupor or vomiting about 15% of children treated by the first regimen were unable to ingest a sufficient quantity of glucose solution by mouth, and intravenou

Prospective, randomized trial of hypertonic sodium lactate versus lactated Ringer's solution for burn shock resuscitation.

We prospectively randomized 51 adult burned patients on admission to study fluid, electrolyte, and physiologic parameters during burn resuscitation with the use of hypertonic saline (HSL, Na 250 mEq/L, 514 mOsm) or lactated Ringer's solution (LR, Na 130 mEq/L, 268 mOsm). Patients suffered at least 20% total body surface area burns (BSA); the mean BSA injury was 36.7% BSA, with a range of 20 to 74% BSA. All patients were admitted to our Burn Center within at least 12 hours of injury. Laboratory studies included frequent determinations of serum chemistries including osmolalities, and continuous

A retrospective analysis of normal saline and lactated ringers as resuscitation fluid in sepsis.

BACKGROUND: The Surviving Sepsis Campaign suggested preferential resuscitation with balanced crystalloids, such as Lactated Ringer's (LR), although the level of recommendation was weak, and the quality of evidence was low. Past studies reported an association of unbalanced solutions, such as normal saline (NS), with increased AKI risks, metabolic acidosis, and prolonged ICU stay, although some of the findings are conflicting. We have compared the outcomes with the preferential use of normal saline vs. ringer's lactate in a cohort of sepsis patients. METHOD: We performed a retrospective cohort

Fluid resuscitation using the intraosseous route: infusion with lactated Ringer's and hetastarch.

OBJECTIVE: The effectiveness of the intraosseous (IO) route for fluid resuscitation remains uncertain. This study compares IO infusion rates and estimated volume expansion using clinically relevant infusion pressures with lactated Ringer's (LR) and hetastarch (HES). METHODS: IO needles were placed in the sternum or tibia for infusion of HES and LR in 8 Yorkshire pigs. Pressures were recorded at variable flow rates and linear regression used to identify flow rates at 100 and 400 mm Hg. Volume expansion was calculated for a 10-minute infusion. RESULTS: Mean LR flow rates (mL x min(-1)) were 24

Are lactated Ringer's solution and normal saline solution equal with regard to coagulation?

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

UNLABELLED: Crystalloids represent an attractive strategy to alleviate intravascular volume deficits. Crystalloid hemodilution was associated with hypercoagulability in in vitro and in vivo studies. The influence of different crystalloids on coagulation in the surgical patient is not well studied. In a prospective, randomized study in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery, we used either lactated Ringer's solution (RL) (n = 21) or 0.9% saline solution (SS) (n = 21) exclusively for intravascular volume replacement over 48 h to maintain central venous pressure between 8 and 12 mm Hg. Allergy to Ringer's Lactate - Uncommon Cause of Anaphylaxis during Intraoperative Period: A Case Report.

Perioperative anaphylaxis is a rare but potentially fatal event, with an incidence ranging from 1:300 to 1:20,000 surgeries and a mortality rate of 3-9%. Its intraoperative occurrence is diagnostically challenging due to patient sedation and overlapping drug effects. Crystalloids like Ringer's Lactate are rarely implicated. A 27-year-old American Society of Anesthesiologists grade I female undergoing mastoidectomy developed intraoperative hypotension, tachycardia, and generalized erythema after induction with standard anesthetics and Ringer's Lactate infusion. Anaphylaxis was suspected, and Ri

Fluid therapy strategies in acute pancreatitis: Randomized controlled trial comparing dextran and Ringer's lactate.

BACKGROUND: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a frequent gastrointestinal emergency characterized by inflammation. It has the potential to progress to organ failure. Fluid therapy plays a critical role in early AP management, mitigating hypovolemia-induced ischemia and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). AIM: To evaluate dextran 40 + Ringer's lactate solution (RLS) vs RLS alone for fluid therapy in mild to moderate AP. METHODS: We conducted a single-center, single-blind, randomized controlled trial involving 108 patients with mild to moderate AP. Participants were randomized to receive

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma activates lactate in Ringer's solution for anti-tumor effects.

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma is a novel approach for wound healing, blood coagulation, and cancer therapy. A recent discovery in the field of plasma medicine is that non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma not only directly but also indirectly affects cells via plasma-treated liquids. This discovery has led to the use of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma as a novel chemotherapy. We refer to these plasma-treated liquids as plasma-activated liquids. We chose Ringer's solutions to produce plasma-activated liquids for clinical applications. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonst

Effects of Sodium Bicarbonate Ringer's Solution versus Lactate Ringer's Solution on Emergence Time in Patients Undergoing Supratentorial Tumor Resection: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: In neuroanesthesia, a prompt emergence from anesthesia is essential for postoperative neurologic assessment. Intraoperative infusion of sodium bicarbonate Ringer's solution (BRS) and lactated Ringer's solution (LRS) have different effects on internal environment, potentially contributing to discrepant recovery profiles. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the recovery of BRS and LRS in patients undergoing craniotomy for supratentorial tumors. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial enrolled patients undergoing elective supratentorial tumor resection. Patients were randomized

Cardiocirculatory and biochemical effects of dextran 1.8% and ringer's lactate after minor surgical procedures.

The effects of dextran 1.8% in Ringer's lactate solution were compared with infusion of Ringer's lactate alone in two groups of 12 patients after minor surgical interventions. Plasma volume increased significantly only in the dextran treatment patients. We observed a marked hemodilution with both infusions, but all changes had disappeared after 24 hours. No adverse effects on the coagulation process, hepatic and renal function were noted. These results suggest that dextran 1.8% in Ringer's lactate is an effective and safe solution in plasma volume expansion for this type of patient.

Efficacy of intraoperative use of 20% albumin in combination with Ringer's lactate versus Ringer's lactate during cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy: protocol for a randomised controlled, open-label clinical trial (ALBUCHIP trial).

INTRODUCTION: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is considered the standard of care for the treatment of peritoneal metastases from gastrointestinal and gynaecological cancers. Characterised by substantial intraoperative fluid shifts and increased endothelial permeability, this procedure is associated with adverse perioperative outcomes. Human albumin has been extensively studied in critically ill patients as an intravenous fluid, but its efficacy during major non-cardiac surgery involving substantial fluid requirements remains insufficiently eva

The Efficacy of Sodium Bicarbonate Ringer's Solution and Lactate Ringer's Solution in Patients Undergoing Long-Term Abdominal Open Surgery: A Multicenter Prospective Randomized Controlled Study.

PURPOSE: Sodium bicarbonate Ringer's solution (BRS) is an intravenous fluid that does not rely on hepatic or renal metabolism. It contains bicarbonate ions (HCO3 -) and lacks lactate ions. This study hypothesizes that BRS is more effective in maintaining acid-base balance during prolonged open abdominal surgeries. The aim is to investigate the effects of sodium bicarbonate Ringer's solution on lactate metabolism, acid-base balance, and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing extended-duration open abdominal surgery, with the objective of refining fluid replacement strategies for this patient

Randomized Clinical Trial of Ringer's Lactate Versus Chloride-Reduced Saline-Dextrose in Postoperative Kidney Transplantation.

INTRODUCTION: Normal saline administration induces hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, potentially impairing kidney allograft recovery. The comparative efficacy of balanced crystalloids against actively chloride-reduced saline protocols remains unclear. METHODS: This randomized, open-label trial compared Ringer's Lactate Solution (RLS) with a dynamic dual-infusion protocol of normal saline and 5% dextrose (NSS + D5W) in adult kidney transplant recipients. Using a prespecified modified intention-to-treat analysis, 134 patients who received ≥2 L of study fluid were evaluated. Fluids were strictl

Aggressive Hydration With Ringer's Lactate in the Prevention of Post-ERCP Pancreatitis: A Meta-Analysis.

Post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis (PEP) is a dangerous complication and occurs in a considerable number of patients. However, since well-randomized controlled trials investigating aggressive hydration with Ringer's lactate are lacking, this meta-analysis assessed the role of aggressive hydration with Ringer's lactate alone or in combination with other therapies in the prevention of PEP. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar for relevant articles. The search engine was set to randomize controlled trials and prospective cohorts assessing R
